YS-11 Avionics Failure MSFS 2020

Featured Replies

Absolutely love twin engine turbo YS-11, but have a stubborn, continuing problem.  Fifteen minutes into a flight all avionics are lost, including the HSI. The airspeed indicator, altimeter, vertical speed indicator, flaps and landing gear operate fine and the aircraft flies great.  I have gone through the popup checklist over and over, but do not see anything I've missed.

Any suggestions?

Tried both--no luck.

Is your battery discharging all the way though?  As in it's not charging off the engines once you start them (generators/alternators)?

Will check that.

You have to reset the generators switches after starting the engines, otherwise you'll remain on battery until they drain out.

Even after resetting the generators the battery keeps discharging unless the external power gpu is on.  As soon as turn off the gpu and external power switches the batteries start to discharge.

Any help?

Also the genertator 1 and 2 fail switches come on.

Are you sure you're RESETTING the generators after the engines are started?   Overhead console

I'm not at home to check but make sure the gens are getting reset, and the engines should be running when you do it

Another thought:  I don't think this aircraft has failures modelled, but if it does, you may have one.

Please define what you mean resetting the generators exactly involves.  I move them from on to "rest" and then back on.  Is that how to do it?

Thanks very much for you help Mace.  Appreciate it.

That's correct, I believe...rest back to on...it's on the overhead console.

I am not at home otherwise I'd get on there and check.  It's also been a week or so since I flew it.

Don't turn off the battery though, that's definitely not it.

Hello Mace-It is fixed!!

There is a discrepancy in the checklist which was causing the battery to run down.  Under the "Preliminary Cockpit Preparation" the third entry is "Battery and External Power On."  Then in the "After Engine Start" part of the checklist there is another entry that states "Generator & Battery On."  So, there are conflicting instructions in the checklist. Having the battery on from the "Preliminary Cockpit Preparation" to the entry "Generator and Battery" on in the "After Engine Start" ran the battery down.  If I did not turn on the battery in the "Preliminary Cockpit Preparation" part of the checklist and then turned it on in the "After Engine Start" part of the checklist, turned on the invertors, reset the generators and then shut off the external power, all worked fine.

Problem solved.

They really need to correct the checklist to keep the battery off until the "After Engine Start" procedure and also add the "reset generators" to the "After Engine Start" part of the checklist.
