FSLTL Installation

Featured Replies

Having a problem with this.  I found that the fsltl folders were installed twice on my system - one set in the communty folder and one in the content folder, so i deleted them both and uninstalled the flybywire app in windows.

Now every time I download the flybywire app and try to install it along with the liveries, it installs them in my content folder and of course when i try and run fsltl it tells me that It needs to be in the community folder.  If I move the folders into the community folder, it tells me that it is not installed at all.

I do remember when I first installed it a long time ago, I needed to type in the install path, but I don't seem to get this option any more.

can anyone explain what is going wrong?  Thanks

@cianpars

that happens because when you run the FBW app for the first time after install, it asks for two paths, and you are probably giving it two different paths...

⚙️ Custom Paths via Installer Settings

  • The FlyByWire Installer allows you to manually set the installation path for both the aircraft and liveries.

  • You can configure this by clicking the gear xp12 icon in the lower-left corner of the installer and adjusting the Download section.

  • If you skip this step or misconfigure it, the installer might default to placing files in the wrong folder (e.g., Content instead of Community).

so, if for instance, you have moved your MSFS 2024 installation folder to a custom folder is like I did -  F:\MSFS - you should:

When prompted by the FBW Installer:

  • First pathF:\MSFS

  • Second pathF:\MSFS\Community

If instead you're using the default Store the version folders, then it'll be :

  • First path:%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\
  • Second Path:%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Community

Yet, the Injector section of the FSLTL traffic component managed by the FBW installer best finds the Community folder itself, using the string declared to the bottom of the "UserCfg.opt" file under:

C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache

Thanks jcomm.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled FSLTL 6 or 7 times today following your comments and it still seems to be installing into the packages folder for some reason.  I'm tearng my hair out, though I do recall having similar issues when moving over from fs2000 to fs2024 and somehow managed to resolve them then, though did seem to end up with 2 installations as a result.

The path seems to be to my C drive even though msfs24 ison my E drive

The installer is indicating

Community directory

C:\Users\Dad\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Community

Install directory

C:\Users\Dad\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages

@cianpars,

can you check the "UserCfg.opt" oppening it with Notepad or the like and skipping to the end of that file where the installed "InstalledPackagesPath" is defined?

The usercfg.opt shows InstalledPackagesPath "C:\Users\Dad\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages"

Which is consistent with the above, but it still installs in packages.  However my flightsimulator2024.exe and all my files (and I have nearly 2 GB of files) are on my E drive (my C drive is only 250 GB).

I've got it working for now by copying the fsltl traffic base and fsltl traffic injector folders into my community folder.  However, it still means I have 2 copies of these quite large folders on my system taking up space and I would imagine that if fsltl gets an update, it will update the folders in packages rather than community.  What a PITA.

Very strange?

Update UserCfg.opt, saving a backup of it first, and change the string with the Path to the Path where your packages actually reside.

Do that without FS 2024 running OFC...

OK.. so it is installing in the right place then.  Usercfg is telling FSLTL that your files are installed here.

I have the strong feeling that your files in drive E are the copy that's doing nothing... you may have reinstalled at some point and it reverted to the default.

Because - that location in Usercfg.ini is where the sim is running from.

To test it, try renaming your directory in drive E (say it's E:\msfs2024, change to E:\msfs2024_temp, or whatever), then try running the sim. I bet you it will run.

Not sure Jonathan.  I got so fed up with it, I've decided just to run with it and accept the fact that there are 2 copies of fsltl for now.  I have a 2TB drive with msfs2024 on it and none of this would fit onto my c drive with w11 and all my photos and documents on it.  I get the feeling that both fs2020 and fs2024 used symbolic links or something whereby it appears to be installed on the c drive, but it is actually on the e drive.  It's all a bit of a mystery to me, but ive had enough of messing with it for now as it all seems to be working.  Thanks for your suggestion though and to jcomm for his efforts

If it's working, it's working. Next time you do a full Windows reinstall you can sort it out then.

I was just thkinking that Jonathan.  I also thought that it might have been something to do with the fact that the initial install was on fs2020.  Luckily my E drive is a big one and I'm not running out of space ATM.

I have fsltl base models ver. 1.6 downloaded from fbw web.  Also Installer is current.

Went to KATL and saw only 4 other aircraft parked near me at one terminal.  None taxing or taking off or landing.

What am I doing wrong.

You may have turned FSLTL down from its default settings.  The only other think I can thin of is that traffic runs in real time and if you are flying at a time when it is 2 am in the morning at KATL then there may not be so much traffic to display.
