November 5, 2025Nov 5 And here's the other really big reason I put my P3Ds back up - This is an FSX airplane but seems to be happy enough in P3D v5 (if a teensy bit skittish). My v5 system not set up properly yet, but I'll probably carry on and do so if this beastie can run in it. Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. It was one of my favorite aircraft! Definitely one of my childhood faves. I remember a very badly built plastic kit, smudgy glue fingerprints all over it. Eventually got to see the real thing at the SAC museum in Omaha (twice!), a wondeful plane, and the sort of thing that just looked exactly like it was supposed to, if you know what I mean. I have two unbuilt plastic kits of this thing still sitting around here - different scales and bought from the museum on my trips there, and a fairly decent monograph on the plane. The one in the sim is from Glowingheat, and is still available on the PC Aviator website! And yep, it looks like it was originally for FS 2004. It was one of the first addons I bought when I started on this obsession/hobby, but I bought the fancy new FSX version! Obviously, you can't get too close up in the sim, but it is really good to see it again and have it available. I'd love to see PMDG, or even CSim, do a version of this for MSFS, but I rather suspect that's not gonna happen <grin> Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. November 8, 2025Nov 8 The Hustler from the yesteryears of our SIM...still hustling along here...🙂... On 11/6/2025 at 4:27 AM, andy1252 said: ...but I bought the fancy new FSX version!... Yes, who needed that old FS9 version...🙂...btw, I've taken bit of liberty of making your word "fancy" into bold font...🙂... FSX was indeed fancy in those days...cream of the flight simulation, and if I recall correctly, even the P3D had not yet arrived in the mainstream... Very nice shot and bits of reminiscence, Andy. Yeap...that slogan has not changed since ages, "Welcome to PC Aviator. We're Here To Help You To Realize YOUR Dream To Fly!"....🙂...Were they not the folks who used to publish the other magazine, "Computer Pilot"...? Have fun with re-discovery of P3Dv5...!

Looking back in my spreadsheet I can see they were my "go to" shop for a long while, but I haven't bought anything from them for years now. Makes me feel a bit guilty, especially as they've still got all my old stuff faithfully store in My Account there - I did actually re-download this B-58 just on the off chance it was a more up-to-date version than the one on my drive (it wasn't) and I think the purchase date was back in 2014. Don't remember that magazine though, it was certainly not on the newstands over here. I have a few years worth of PC Pilot still on my shelves, but gave up on it in the end as I felt it got a bit repetitive, plus of course was always well out of date compared to stuff on the interwebby. The P3D project seems to be settling down now. I just need to figure out what to do about tweaking the graphics/colours in it. I've still got my old copy of the PTA but it needs online access to re-register it apparently, and the site is long gone. I'll sniff around and see if there's a work-around for that, and try and dig out any other utils for same. And then it's maybe time to play with FSX itself. I've still got my Steam edition installed, and when I had a quick look yesterday it seemed happy enough to run at 4k on my big screen, although it looks very, very basic as stock. But I've got at least another hundred aircraft bought for that that will never be redone anywhere else, and if I can get any halfway reasonable results for screenshots I will be happy with that. I've seen plenty of quite stunning shots here from bothe FSX and FS9 so I know it can be done, and the nice thing about these older systems now is that when I find myself getting too depressed with the state of some aspect of the scenery I can just fire up 2024 again and remind myself that I can get all the pebbles and crystal clear water I want anytime I need to. Happy days! (and I just finished reading Henry Winkler's autobiog.
