I was aloft at around 8000 ft when I remembered I hadn't loaded Pilot2ATC.

Loaded the program imported my flight plan.
ATC came on asking I reduce speed to 250 knots?

I hadn't validated nor filed the plan but there she was admonishing me to slow down.
 

I'm assuming this isn't supposed to happen. It's occured maybe three times in the last two months.

To be fair. On a flightplan or not, you shouldn't be exceeding 250kts below 10,000'asl. Within US or Canadian airspace at least. Many if not most other countries have the same rule. P2ATC was just letting you know before writing you up. 😉

Would be a good mechanic, exceed limits for some duration - deviation.
