February 5Feb 5 I hope that we won't see any games in 2-3 years which won't run on ultra settings with a 5080. 😄 On a reasonable resolution ofc.

But a 5080 should still be able to run games in 2-3 years, just don’t have expectations you can max out every graphics setting and expect it to meet your FPS goals. New GPUs from AMD/nVidia are scheduled for 2027 and prices are already expected to be 2X worse than they are now. The days of getting top tier GPU for less than $5000 will be forever gone unfortunately. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. - Carl Sagan

And I’m pay to use AI. Ironically, I was having a conversation with a neurosurgeon (aka brain surgeon) at my wife’s company event with significant others invited and we got on the topic of AI and she indicated AI cut her research time down from 10 hours to 2 hours. It’s definitely a benefit in some ways, determinant in others. GPUs are getting so expensive due to corporate greed. The side distraction is to blame it on supply and demand even though they know they can meet supply IF they wanted to meet supply … it’s just that there is more profit in supplying the corporate world (more volumes and higher profits). Of course, who pays the price for corporations “paying the price” to nVidia/AMD … the consumer, it always ends up coming out of the consumers pocket one way or another. If it didn’t these CEO’s would be in the Trillionaires club. Not going to get into the greed aspect of CEOs that think they’re worth $1.2 Trillion because that ultimately goes down the path of politics, and lawyers hired by very wealthy people to ensure laws (or lack of) protect their wealth … the world of extreme capitalism/corruption. I know this from first hand experience from a prior company I worked in (the joys of being a software engineers with access to everything) … it kinda made me sick to my stomach on how the wealthy can protect their wealth in unethical means by “building” a legal context (anyway, I digress) for themselves … anyway. AI really isn’t the problem, it’s how it’s being used and abused by humans. The basic concept is: 1. BOTs mine our data 2. Websites make you agree to being able to use and sell your data in exchange for website usage 3. Your data is then processed by facilities full of computers using various AI models to build results 4. The resulting output of your data is then sold back to you at a price (be it directly or indirectly) For example: Suppose you post a solution to a problem on a Discord channel. You took the time and energy to figure out what caused the problem, then came up with a solution to the problem. Say for example scenery ordering problem in MSFS 2024 for a specific add-on. That solution is then picked up by BOTs or simply provided to a provider and/or the website owners (for a fee in most cases unless the website owners are unaware they can make money from it). That solution is processed by facilities with racks and racks of computers running AI models where other similar solutions may be found also, merges the information (the AI bit), and then spilts out a result. That result is then either sold or provided via one of the many AI tools (GPChat, CoPilot, etc.). So your work effort is someone else’s profit in most cases (not all) … under the onus “well we gave you access to our website”. Given the data sources these day can be just about anything from your mobile phone to your smart fridge to your smart TV to your smart car your GPS location, your watch, dashcam, etc. Where I see significant ethical issues that are NOT being addressed because of politics, profit, lawyers … are things like my iPad saying “Request app to not track” … the app can still track you, it’s only a “request” and is just that, has ZERO legal backbone if you agree or don’t agree. Another example is my Plex media server at home, I can “ask Plex” to not track my usage, but in doing so they artificially restrict functionality of Plex (I don’t get actor breakdowns, and additional information regarding the show/movie). So if I want that functionality, I have to allow it for a “better experience”. The next thing I see when I fire up Amazon Prime are the very same movies/shows or similar I put on my Plex server. Plex is privately held, but most likely that have a deal with Amazon for data (for a fee) as I don’t see how else Amazon could have discovered what I watched on my OWN private (not public) Plex server. Just some examples … many more ways of “abuse”. Sorry for the long winded response. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. - Carl Sagan
February 5Feb 5 I stand corrected for nVidia … looks like 2028 before we see another GPU from them: https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/gpus/report-claims-nvidia-will-not-be-releasing-any-new-rtx-gaming-gpus-in-2026-rtx-60-series-likely-debuting-in-2028 You’d think AMD would see this as an opportunity … but sadly they’re running up the same AI flag pole so who knows when the next GPU will be out. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. - Carl Sagan

Tho i never had a xx80/90, for quite some time i work with xx70s, currently a 4070 super for wqhd it works fine for me so far. "Luckily" i am visually impaired [and i don't mean that i am ugly 😄 that's just a coencidence] so there is many-many stuff that i don't have to worry about like 4k, gazilion hz monitors, i completly skipped the whole 3D TV scam phase... cuz i can't see the difference or certain technologies just simply won't click with my eyes' conditions. In the case of xx70 i usually buy a new one when inevitably i have to start droping settings to medium on 1440p, my first 70 vas a GTX770 than came my absolutly bonkers MSI Sea Hawk GTX1070 lasted me for 6 years and after that the guy who bought it got back to me if i am rly sure about this cuz he is rocking like 120+ fps in everything he tried... oh god i loved that card so much also that was my best build to this date mini itx fully AiO water cooled with all the performance i needed. The 3070 and 4070 are okay so far but their price... yeah that's off the charts. Sry for the rambling. 😄
February 8Feb 8 Jack - how is your Terrain looking on the new PC? Are you happy with what you are seeing? T45

I love the way the terrain looks unless it’s just been nuked and melted in places. And smooth, not one stutter and FPS 125+ even with FSLTL on. Jack Sawyer
February 10Feb 10 " terrain looks unless it’s just been nuked and melted in places" Do you get this Jack, still?, as my mountains resemble that description & I was hoping your spec level would render them craggy & realistic. Have been contemplating a new PC but the power bills may knock that off , they are horrendous. & with 64 GB of good RAM around $1,000 & a good GPU $1,000 plus, building your own gets pretty pricey - $3,500 to $6,000 easily, depending on what you spec. So I am tweaking a lot of settings on the current PC😌 T45 Edited February 10Feb 10 by Treetops45 Correction

Could you do me a favor when you have time & put an aircraft on Burbank, KBUR, & maybe taxi along the runway & look to the sides. Do you get the buildings that look like melted stone monoliths? I do, always have at KBUR & it is something I hoped a hopped up PC would fix. One factor I am looking at is my Mbps from the Internet Provider. Wireless connection will tend to introduce more latency and is less stable than hardwire connection. For Photogrammetry to show correctly (no melted buildings) you need 125Mpbs at a minimum sustained (assuming you have max OLOD/TLOD) and latency < 15ms (<10ms is preferred). There are other issues that can trigger melted buildings, but in most cases your latency and sustained data transfer speed will be the determining factor.
