Impressed with Stream Deck integration with MSFS 2024.

Featured Replies

Since I’ve downsized my flight simulator hardware “environment” to something relatively easy to unplug and move aside, I’ve incorporated 4 Stream Deck modules (1X Stream Deck Mk.2, 2X Stream Deck +, and 1X Stream Deck XL).

I purchased several aircraft profiles (PMDG 737/777, iniBuilds A340/A350, TDFi MD-11, etc.) from Flight Panels website.  Super easy to install (run the exe) and get working immediately in MSFS 2024.  The installer installs Mobiflight WASM and freeware version of FSUIPC7 (already had license keys for full version) and adds the profiles to my Stream Deck devices.

I was sorta expecting “issues” … almost always seems that “something” I need to do to make stuff work in a flight simulator.  But I didn’t need to do anything, fired up MSFS 2024 with PMDG 737-9 and all my Stream Deck devices were fully functional and very responsive for rotary inputs and button push.  For the Stream Deck + just swipe display to move to another profile set.

I remember spending days/weeks working thru GoFlight gear and GoFlight Interface looking for the correct events/vars and mapping them out to the button/rotaries/switches.

I hope those make aircraft profiles for simulators keep at it and expand to other aircraft … huge time saver and well worth the cost.

Also found a USB-C and USB3 powered hub with 16 ports and switched from ACASIS that is working flawlessly (I’ve always had USB hub issues in the past and trying to find one that works correctly for both USB-C 10G and USB3).

Stream Decks don’t take up a lot of desk space and easy to move around.

One of multiple pages per device profile … just about every button/knob/switch is available.

Highly recommend for those not wanting to go full on cockpit but have the tactile (don’t reach for the mouse) experience.

While I still go about using my streamdecks with spad.next, I've been happy with them.  Not quite as out of the box as the plug and play profiles I admit.  But sometimes I like to tweak things more to my liking.  All in all I fully agree with you that they are amazing products and we are lucky to live in a sim hardware environment with so many options.

I've been looking at the streamdecks and I see that Spad.next supports it. I thought the the streamdecks only worked with FSUIPC which I have no interest in acquiring (even the free version).

So are there plenty of profiles in spad.next for the streamdecks?

Yes quite a few.  However many are based on also interacting with unique hardware combos. So some good ones, but may require some tweaking.

Funny, I feel the same way about Spad.neXt ... but I'm a little bias towards FSUIPC since I know Pete and John Dowson personally.

The Flight Panels stream deck profiles don't include EVERY button ... for example IRS knobs are not in the profile as well as the Emergency lights switch is not there (and several others).  I was hoping that the Flight Plan profiles for Cold and Dark for the PMDG 737 would all be implemented, but sadly no.  I'll have to investigate and see if I can add them.  But on the plus side Flight Panels support is excellent and responsive and they do regular updates to their profiles.

Spad.neXt ($25-$90 pending version) is very similar to GIT (GoFlight Interface Tool) supporting the now defunct GoFlight modules.

Just purchased GTN 750 profile for PMS50 GTN 750 Premium (for my A2A aircraft in MSFS 2024).

FSUIPC was a big part of my past particularly with p3d.  Really appreciate everything they did to connect hardware and software.  But IMO spad has just run away from the pack with what's possible.  Though, some of the new options like you mention as well as things like MOBI are great too, particularly for people who just want off the rack canned programming that just work automatically with limited user input.

I’ll definitely take a look at Spad.neXt as there are some things in the canned Flight Panel Stream Deck profiles that aren’t there.  But, just as with GIT and its “detective” process, OMG is it time consuming to capture the correct events, assign and test … even more show when getting feedback events to set corresponding lights on the GoFlight modules including warning lights another state based repeating lights … like the MJC Dash-8 took several weeks to get the majority of controls and still some missing from the FMC.

Doing just 3 complex aircraft could take months.

I’ve been thinking of adding a Streamdeck XL to my setup, primarily to avoid having to switch views while on the roll for things like external lights, APU etc.

I see lots of highly rated free profiles over at flightsim.to.  Is it easy to get these setup in Axis and OH’s?   I downloaded the demo for that program and really coudn’t find my way around it.  Is it easy to switch tween profiles etc?

Thanks

Dave
