MSFS 2024 No ATC or ATIS audio

Featured Replies

About to tear out my (non-existent) hair.  I have no ATC or ATIS audio, regardless of plane, radio config (TDS GTNs or default) airport, Navigraph or default nav data...  When I tune ATIS, for example, I can hear clicks, roughly corresponding to when the loop likely starts and stops, but that's it.  I never hear any ATC whatsoever, despite having correct frequencies tuned.  I only have one audio device enabled, and the problem persists whether I set MSFS specifically to that device or to the "default audio device".  All other sounds in the sim are fine.

This is a problem I've had from the get-go and it may be self inflicted.  I installed to a non-default location as I had done with 2020, but unlike 2020 it still put my community file location in the default location.  After installation (and perhaps critically) after installing Navigraph data, I moved the file location to my install directory, making that change inside the sim from the manage library screen.  That seemed to work, but clearly messed up Navigraph stuff as I had no nav data when flying.  After uninstalling and re-installing Navigraph all appeared to be well with navaids (ILS, VOR frequencies, etc) but still no ATC or ATIS.

At one point I got ATIS working by uninstalling Navigraph, but that's no longer helping either.  I've deleted rolling cache and content.xml and allowed them to rebuild.  No joy.  I'm outa ideas and haven't found any help with the google machine, so any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.  Otherwise I'm afraid I'm about to exercise the nuclear option and start from ground zero.  Ugh!

Hi Scott,

I recently installed MSFS 2024 SU4 because I wanted to get the HJet free upgrade.

After testing a clean install without too many addons I was blown away by the way that ATC interacted with the AI traffic.

After further testing, I decided the unthinkable. To go ahead and delete MSFS 2020 and only keep 2024.

I began adding some airports to my "custom" community folder. At one point the default ATC chatter started going crazy.

Yesterday it stopped working. I was so disappointed because I was really enjoying the new voices.

I was considering doing another clean install. Instead I created a new roaming cache file. When I tested another airport, ATC was working again.

Weird! Maybe it was a server issue?

Make sure your voice volume isn't turned down in the sound settings.  Yes, that happened to me.

Also make sure your voices aren't turned off in Accessibility or similar menus.  Had that happen to me once.  I'm not at my simrig right now to check exactly which menu it was in.

I've seen references to ATIS/AWOS never shutting up, but nothing quite like what I'm encountering.  Yep, tried the cache deletion and a whole lot more.  Even fired up a VPN to get to a non-US server.  No joy.

Like you, I was pretty much ready to delete 2020 as I have everything else dialed in and performing perfectly.  Just this one small problem and...

Double checked all of the above.  There is an ATC/AI setting that one guy said could cause this kind of issue, but I had that disabled.  The weird thing is that I do hear the "mic click" noise and then some random static sounds when I think the ATIS loop kicks off.

Anyway, I think I've exhausted the possibilities and I've grown weary of trying things and endlessly starting and stopping the sim.  It's time to punt and start over.

Thanks for your thoughts guys!  Much appreciated.

besides enabling voice ATC in settings, turning up ATC volume and the like. Yep, it was all aircraft - Asobo, 3rd party, built-in coms, TDS GTNxi - every plane and config I tried.  I've now uninstalled, re-installed and reconfigured and all is working again.

I hate reverting to the brute force approach, but I'd given it all the time and patience I had.  Wish I knew what went wrong, but it is what it is.

My default ATC is working now but, it still has issues that are just hard to understand.

ASOBO should consider hiring one of the third part devs to help them. I don't think that they know what to do about a working ATC & AI.

I just tried FSLTL Injector with the fleet and the ATC has a hard time keeping up with just a few airliners and GA.

I do have a small issue with the FSLTL injector. When I first load it, I'm getting an error message. It can't find the community path. I'll start a new thread.
