Moffett Field / NASA Ames Preview (KNUQ)

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Taking a small break from the Arcata-Eureka scenery as I am still stuck with some small issues.

I have been inspired by the NASA Artemis mission to give some attention to Moffett Federal Airfield, the former Moffett NAS, home of NASA Ames Research center in Silicon Valley. I am very familiar with this airport as an uncle of mine flew P-3s there in the 1980s.

Much of the airport is already covered by PG, but I am trying to add some key buildings like the flight ops center, Hangar One, and California ANG. Will try to add some static NASA aircraft too. Just a fun little enhancement.

Some small updates:

Improved the Hangar One model, added the Ames Research Center hangar, the museum with its static collection, and the P-3 on Cody Road

True story. Almost 30 years ago when MSFS got its first Lear Jet (MSFS 98) one of my favorite pastimes was to depart KBAB where I was stationed as an Air Traffic Controller and cruise on down to the Bay stopping for T&G’s at KOAK then KSFO always with a full stop destination of Moffett NAS.  There was something about those Blimp Hangers that made it “As real as it gets!” for me.  Silly in hindsight but still…I will value a visit to your updated version if you decide to release it.  I’m sure I won’t be disappointed based upon your efforts as documented here.  Blue skies,

Wow, I am really looking forward to this.  I live a few miles from Moffett Field, and for many years KPAO has been my MSFS home field.  To have those hangers in MSFS 2024 is dream I've been hoping to have realized for years now, THANKS!!!!

Nice touch that you've included the Ames wind tunnel (seen in the background of your 4th update picture)!  Dang....can't wait!

I’m looking forward to this as well. I used to live in Santa Clara and remember seeing P-3s, C-5s and Starlifters land at Moffett NAS.

I remember that too..it was pretty stunning to see the Moffett hangars in FS98. But even earlier before that, they were also in Jetfighter and Jetfighter II (if anyone remembers early 90s sims)!

I use the Dreamflight KPAO a lot myself - have great memories of flying into the real PAO back in the day. Such a pretty location for a small GA field. When I miss the Bay Area, I often do a Bay circuit like MRY-RHV-PAO-HAF-OAK-LVK-RHV or something like that.  I am thinking of doing KOAR as one of the next sceneries as well, because WVI, SNS, and MRY are already well covered by other developers.

The Ames wind tunnel is actually already provided in PG. About 80% of the Moffett buildings are already provided in PG, so you'll need to have it enabled to enjoy this scenery fully.

Yep that's an automatic memory for any 80s Bay Area kid! Loved seeing the P-3s pass overhead on 101, I always asked my parents to get into the slow lane so I could get the full view of Moffett.

Well the Artemis mission was completed already but I finally got to work on Moffett a bit more this week. Hangar 1 and 2 models have been revised, as well as the tower building and have started filling in airfield clutter and NASA details too. Some of the PG trees were wonky so I have added pine and other trees where necessary. It's becoming more work than I thought 🫠
