April 9Apr 9 Enjoying my WinCTRL (especially the price) airbus throttle, but I also need throttles for the GA’s I like to fly. I’ve had VF TQ6 and TQ6+ in the past and they good, not sure I’d say $750 good, but solid units. Only thing I didn’t like about the VF TQ6’s was the resistance control was a bit “janky” … as in it just seemed to compress the arms on a rod which would make the outer arms more resistant than the inner middle arms. So now I’m looking for 6 axis throttle unit (only need the throttles) and looking at the VF TQ6 Neo (at about $2000 US). Do anyone have this throttle? If so, how do you like it? I’m don’t need all the extras that come with Honeycomb throttles and the Thrustmaster throttle tend to drift and don’t return to a position and stay in that position. Haven’t discovered another other 6 axis options of reasonable quality. WinCTRL have suggested sometime 2027, but that’s too far out for me to wait. https://www.virtual-fly.com/shop/controls/flight-sim-throttle-quadrant-tq-neo Rob. I had the original TQ6 and if I remember correctly the tension adjustment needed you to exercise the levers throughout their entire range ten times or so to redistribute the tension evenly. That said, I found the TQ6 levers a little bit stop/start in operation for small changes, so I'm not sure I would buy another one. The Neo looks eye-wateringly expensive but I see it also appears to have lift gates for the beta and reverse zones, which is new. April 11Apr 11 Author Thanks … I haven’t heard back from them so I’m looking into alternatives. Agree, the stop/start tension is really just bad/cheap design that I didn’t expect in a $750 throttle setup, hence my inquiry for the $2000 neo setup. Any alternatives with 6 axis that are good quality? Love the WinCTRL throttle but not viable for GA dual prop setup. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. - Carl Sagan
April 12Apr 12 I have the TQ6, I use it mostly for GA only as I have other throttles for airliners, helicopters/fighters etc. It does the job for me, and is mechanically very well done and should last a long time. The only issue I ran into was with the desk clamp, I wore one out pretty quick though the replacement seems to be holding strong. I also own the Yoko+ and Ruddo+, and bought both with the expectation they were a long term investment. They seem durable enough for that to be the case. In contrast, I had to open up the first Winctrl Airbus throttle they sent me due to a defect (they expected me to open it up and partially disassemble it to do troubleshooting/testing to diagnose the issue, which is a whole different complaint) and what I saw in there in terms of build quality and materials left a lot to be desired, and made me question the long term durability. You get what you pay for. I too saw the TQ6 Neo and love the idea of having a beta range / gate for turboprops, but I cannot comprehend how it costs $2000. I could see a premium over the TQ6 of course, but 166% more expensive is hard to understand. I asked the same question to their support/sales contact, has been several days with no response so I've moved onto a compromised and much less expensive solution with the Honeycomb Aeronautical Bravo Throttle Quadrant for $300. Odd that VF sales don't have time to answer some basic questions, but maybe they have hundred of thousands orders 😉 WinCTRL throttle is working great for 737 and Airbus and I didn't realize it had some force feedback. SimAppPro is mostly horrible and documentation is even worse ... they need to hire someone that is fluent in multiple languages (hopefully one being English). I really have no complaints with WinCTRL at their price point and they do regular firmware and software updates and seem to have a big presence in Flight Sim expos/events.
