May 20May 20 Author Mitch'sTrue story: I remember watching “Sing along with Mitch” as a little kid w/my parents. We had the Sing Along with Mitch Party album. One of the tracks was “Rambling Wreck from Georgia Tech”. I loved that song; I loved that it sounded like a marching song. I played it so much that I eventually memorized all the lyrics. When I was 5 or 6 years old, @ 1961 or ‘62, my oldest cousin came back from serving in the Air Force with a girl he married from Kentucky, who told me about this encounter decades later, as I have no memory of it. She said I was marching around my aunt & uncle’s house singing:“Oh if I had a daughter sir, I’d dress her in white and goldAnd take her ‘round the campus sir, and cheer for the brave and boldBut if I had a son sir, I’ll tell you what he’d doHe would yell “To hell with Georgia” just like his daddy used to doI’m a rambling wreck from Georgia Tech and a hell of an engineerA helluva of a helluva helluva helluva helluva helluva an engineerLike all good jolly fellows, I drink my whiskey clearI’m a rambling wreck from Georgia Tech and a helluva engineerShe told me this was the first time she ever saw me and told my cousin “Who is this strange kid?”
