AMD is bringing back the 5800X3D

Featured Replies

If you have an AM4 motherboard, this is the best cpu for msfs, period.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

I currently have an 5900x. Normally I would not consider such a small "upgrade" but these aren't normal times.

But I am hesitant, I doubt the improvement is substantial.

I went from 5600x to 5800X3D. Very substantial increase in performance.

Better than the 9800x3d? I’m about to pull the trigger.

Whether you fly 2020 or 2024 matters here. 2020's architecture benefits from the extra cache more than 2024 -- 2024's architecture seems to still benefit from it, but not as much.

As to what is "substantial", one man's substantial is another man's minor performance bump. There is info out there about MSFS2020 with 5800X3D offering what is in my opinion substantial improvement vs. non vcache cpu's of the same vintage.

Here is the thread from release era, good info right at the top:

No, the 9800x3d is faster.

9800x3d is also for AM5 motherboards. The 5800x3d is for AM4 motherboards.
