What is happening with msfs2024, (help needed)

Featured Replies

Hello All.

Just lately I have not been able to do a single flight in fs2024. I get as far as choosing an arrival airport/runway in free flight and not only does the sim completely freeze, but my entire pc! Nothing works! the mouse pointer won't move, ctrl alt delete doesn't work to get to task manager, the only thing I can do is press and hold the pc start button to close down entirely. This happens every time without exception. I have been online for help and discovered I am certainly not alone with this problem, however, having tried all the possible fixes suggested inluding msfs2024 repair and windows repair, clearing cache's, nothing has worked. I have all the latest updates available, Nvidia drivers, dlls etc. The only addons I've installed have been fs2024 native. My pc spec's I've listed below.

PLEEEEEEASE can someone help me, if you have any experience of this problem and have a cure. I haven't flown at all in days and I'm getting withdrawal symptons ☹️🤪🤣!

Thank you in advance and best regards.

Well, I just asked my Copilot 😁 and his answer was:

The entire PC freezes, not just the sim. No mouse, no Ctrl+Alt+Del → this is a kernel‑level hang, not an MSFS crash.

When MSFS locks the whole machine, it’s almost always one of these:

1. Dual‑GPU conflict (NVIDIA + Intel UHD 770)

Your system has both:

  • RTX 5080

  • Intel UHD 770 (iGPU)

MSFS 2024 is known to hard‑freeze Windows on some systems when the Intel GPU is still enabled, even if the monitor is connected to the NVIDIA card.

Fix

Disable the Intel GPU completely:

BIOS → Advanced → System Agent → Graphics Configuration → iGPU = Disabled

If BIOS doesn’t allow it:

  1. Open Device Manager

  2. Expand Display Adapters

  3. Right‑click Intel UHD 770Disable device

This alone has solved the full‑system freeze for many users.

2. NVidia driver + MSFS 2024 conflict (common with 50‑series cards)

The newest drivers sometimes cause:

  • Hard freezes when loading airports

  • Black screens

  • GPU timeout → system hang

Fix

Roll back to a stable driver:

  • 552.44 or 552.22 (both confirmed stable for MSFS 2024)

Use DDU (safe mode) before reinstalling.

3. Airport selection freeze = corrupted world map cache

MSFS 2024 stores map tiles and airport metadata in a cache that can corrupt and freeze the sim when selecting arrival airports.

Fix

Delete these folders:

Código

%AppData%\Microsoft Flight Simulator\SceneryIndexes
%LocalAppData%\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\MapData
%LocalAppData%\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\SceneryCache

MSFS will rebuild them automatically.

4. XMP / RAM instability (very common with 64 GB)

Even if RAM passes MemTest, MSFS is extremely sensitive to marginal XMP profiles.

Fix

Enter BIOS → set:

  • XMP = OFF

  • Or reduce memory speed by one step (e.g., 6000 → 5600)

If the freezes disappear, you’ve found the culprit.

5. PSU transient spikes (12900KS + RTX 5080)

Your CPU + GPU combo can pull very high transient loads. If the PSU is borderline or older, MSFS can trigger a full system lock.

Fix

If your PSU is < 1000W or older than 3 years, this is a real possibility.

Most likely fix for your case

Given your symptoms and hardware:

➡️ Disable the Intel UHD 770 iGPU

This is the #1 cause of full‑system freezes when selecting airports in MSFS 2024.

It's been pretty warm in the UK the last few days, could be overheating, I know my machine's been throttling like crazy (but hasn't crashed yet)...

En el Reino Unido ha hecho bastante calor estos últimos días, podría ser un sobrecalentamiento, sé que mi máquina ha estado funcionando a un ritmo frenético (pero aún no se ha bloqueado)...

Since the last SU, I've had several crashes with MFS, so there might be an issue. I've had 7- and 8-hour sessions with XP12, which is more demanding on my hardware, without any problems, so I'm ruling out issues with my computer.

Before posting the results of my query to MS Copilot I considered the possibility of high core / gpu temps, and that is surely not to discard given the situation in the UK and Central Europe, but I assume the user is aware of the consequences of running desktop under high T...

I have never experienced such a behaviour in MSFS, or X-Plane, though, even under limit situations...

It was crashing for me too, until I set my Nvidia settings to default for MSFS2024
