Asobo new ATR underpower ?

That's an astonishing revelation! Why does the ATR not have more powerful engines?

I would guess because for short legs it doesn’t “need” it, and burns less fuel as a result than the Q400. Could be why ATRs are still being made and Q400s aren’t.

To put it in perspective, when I fly YHZ-YOW in real life, the difference in flying time between a Porter E295 and Q400 is not significant, 2:00 on a E295 and 2:21 on a Q400.

Yes, but there is still the requirement to be able to climb on one engine at MTOW when an engine fails on take off. I am sure that the ATR is capable of that (or it would not be flying), but personally I would feel more comfortable with plenty of extra power in a situation like that.

Oh yeah it’s fine. We have some pretty intense engine out scenarios up north here with terrain and the ATR does just fine.

There’s a user named A220Driv3r on the official msfs forums that has posted a ton bug reports and general issues including art mistakes with the ATR

Sounds like they are/were a ATR Pilot.

The Q400 went out of production at least in part because Airbus was approaching airlines and essentially offering them suitcases full of cash (really, just massive discounts) to buy ATR's instead of Q400's, since Airbus could afford to make significantly less on the airplanes themselves if it gave them a monopoly on the regional turboprop market, since they'd make that money up on parts/support down the road.

I spent about a decade flying Q's, and they're absolutely great for getting in and out of hot/high airports (The only time I was ever payload limited was at a 7,300ft field elevation surrounded by mountains) and they'll carry an impressive amount of ice without issue, but they were a maintenance nightmare, and some parts for the first production models were essentially unobtainable, since the suppliers closed down.
