Asobo new ATR underpower ?

Featured Replies

I just wonder is it my side issue or a common one...

Does the new ATR have some power issues ? Did anyone notice that ? Plane climbs very slowly with CLB barely 500ft/per/min and it won't hold speed with CRZ....

The ATR is a dog IRL.

We don’t cruise at FL250 unless we’re pretty light. Fully loaded 72s generally around 190/200.

In the 42, expect 290 TAS or so, in the 72, 270ish.

It’s not a fast airplane. Q400s have more power in one engine than the ATR has in both.

For normal ops, power levers in the notch, and props in AUTO at all times. Manage power with the power management knobs. See what you get.

Yes it does. Apparently they put the 42 engines on the 72 and viceversa. It's an ridiculously awful update

You jest..... surely?

I'm not sure that's the case, because neither variant can reach cruise speed. If the 42 had the 72's engine, I'm sure it would reach cruise speed fine.

What cruise speed are you expecting?

This was my climb rate today, in a fully loaded 42.

What's your general impression of the sim version? I haven't updated mine to 2024 yet. I generally liked in 2020 but I don't fly airliners that much.

I came to ask exactly this. Seems like you @ATRguy fly the real thing? What do you think about the sim version compared to the real one?

Its definitely a buggy mess, the only workaround I found at the moment is to fly the ATR 72 in ramp instead of notch. Talk about an Expert series...

That's an astonishing revelation! Why does the ATR not have more powerful engines?

I actually haven’t touched the 2024 version yet.

I fly 300/320/500s in real life, so there’s some avionics differences for sure, but from 2020 I remember it being pretty twitchy compared to real life. The systems weren’t terrible, and it had a few little niggles that it didn’t do IRL, but the IRL airplane does all sorts of word not allowed it probably doesn’t do when it’s new haha.

I’m still at work for another little bit, but I could give it a go later this month or in August when I have some time.

Beats me but I wish it did. The Q400 can over speed on one engine. We take bird strikes from behind in comparison.

The Q400 also doesn’t land on 2900 feet of dirt and gravel either, so everything is a trade.

That was the theory of one of the ATR pilots over at the MSFS forums. I haven't tried the 42, just the 72. The 72 is definitely severely underpowered, I mean you can just compare it with the MSFS 2020 version. The 2024 version can't even reach 200 kts during level flight at cruise.
