What bush plane for passenger and cargo jobs?

SWS Pilatus PC12, you have it all, bush, short field TO and landing, cargo and passenger, sturdy, reliable, classic avionics with 3 different GPS options.

Meh…that’s not a bush plane. Austere/rough field…? Sure.

if you don’t need tundra tires, it ain’t really Bush. 😁🤙

It handles great now, whether at MTOW or lightly loaded. No issues with heavily sloped dirt strips. 👍

Now - throttle/torque settings and drag index seem to be mismatched to IRL (too much drag when configured for landing), but it doesn’t interfere with operating the aircraft at all

And while the BS Caravan is extremely well simulated in terms of systems, it still suffers from being too tame/easy to fly vs conditions. This is just how BS models things - highly focused on matching Book Numbers

So, you have to choose whether you want livelier handling and a glass cockpit or the precisely simulated engine, avionics, etc

For me, I fly the Kodiak for all bush flights, and the Caravan for regular commuter ops. It’s a great way to enjoy both

Maybe the new Kodiak has changed but the previous one would drop out of the sky at lower torque and airspeed - making it impossible to finesse. In that Ryan video posted above, he landed at 64Kts. No way you could do that in the SWS Kodiak. You’d be in the lake. Hopefully that’s changed but your comments about drag lead me to believe it hasn’t.

It’s a bit small for the jobs I want to do.

There's a 100lb difference in useful load between the Porter and the Kodiak. When you factor in that you can get a full Porter out of many more places than a full Kodiak, I'm not sure that's an issue.

With the last update to the Kodiak's flight model, you can hold it off the runway fully loaded until stall speed if you try. I can't comment on torque numbers, but I believe all devs have had to do workarounds to make turbine engines work somewhat believably. Hopefully the new turbine SDK additions in SU6 help with this and SWS can implement them when SU6 goes live.

That's good to hear.

In terms of airspeeds it flies JUST FINE 🙂🤙

Like I said, there are simply no more issues with landing at appropriate speeds & weights.

Don’t fall into the trap of being OCD about the torque - IRL, airspeed is the primary factor. And since in sim we don’t have to pay for engine rebuilds or gas, torque just doesn’t matter.
