Flying Fries Gabriel V2.0

Featured Replies

I’d just like to give what I believe the young people call a “ shout out” to the new Flying Fries Black shape Gabriel V2.0

This doesn’t seem to have attracted much attention, I had the original version which I enjoyed so I thought I’d take a look at the FREE V2.0 upgrade. Textures , geometry and sound have all been markedly improved.

It’s a great little machine, it does about 150kts TAS so is in the sweet spot for low and slow sight seeing but also fast enough to get where you want to go when touring. The glass cockpit makes for easy navigation and it has some of the best night lighting with selectable map light colours (I don’t think that’s in the real aircraft from looking at internet images but may be a factory option )

All in all a great little aircraft for the price, I started doing some circuits in it at Compton Abbas and liked it so much I didn’t want to get out, so ended up turning south and flying to Guernsey for (virtual) lunch, surely the sign of a good add on.

I noticed this awhile back after finding their gigantic XF-11 to be a surprisingly nice addon.

The Gabriel has beautiful, complex curves and “go fast” aesthetic from nose to tail, and the simplified yet functional cockpit all quickly combined to pique my interest.

It’s soooo beautiful you just want to keep looking at it…

But once I checked out the performance specs, I couldn’t help but wish it was a bit fas…OH MY GOD THEY DROPPED IN A 420HP V8 AND NOW IT DOES 250 KNOTS!!!!

Sigh…lemme go find my credit card.

“Thanks”, Jon. I guess…

Oh yes, being a purist I forgot to mention the 420HP “ fantasy “ version 😵‍💫

I did have a brief fly of the monster but not long enough to form a sensible opinion.

I completely agree Jon. I had v1 and wasn't blown away with it. V2 is an absolute transformation and has some of the best sounds I've heard in the sim. I have no interest in the fictional 400hp version but the main (real) aircraft version is extremely immersive and, as you alluded, rarely spoken of / underrated.

Performance and airframe wise, it's similar to the SWS Rans RV-8 which is also a great addon, but the Gabriel is definitely a tier up in quality and immersion.

😁🤙

I had a Kawasaki GPZ750 Turbo back in the day. Nothing “sensible” about it, but good lord was it a fun ride!

The 420HP version is a little unhinged and VERY twitchy in terms of the handling. I took it for a run out of Zurich through the alps and was surprised how quickly it chewed through the gas when running at full noise. It scratches a certain itch until the A2A legacy arrives, at least.

The conventional model is very enjoyable though, and as described by others here - an underrated gem. The cockpit layout takes a bit of getting used to, with a lot of indicators that look like switches but aren't. Once you get a handle on that though, it's smooth sailing.

Kinda reminds me of a modern Spitfire 😁
