Can Older Gauges Be Coverted To FS9/FSX

Featured Replies

I am learning panel design for MSFS and have run into a stumbling block.I can not design gauges, but there is a wealth of great gauges to use. Until now I had no problem with FS9, but some of the really good gauges won't work in FSX because there were designed for '98. Is there a way to get then to work or convert them so they will. I would hate to think I am just out of luck. Thanks

If they are gauges that are in .gau files, they are written in C... and the only way to change them is to have the source code and recompile with updated FS gauge headers. So, basically you're out of luck. Sorry. :(

Well, you can extract the bitmaps and try to recode the gauge using them, but there are copyright issues involved so one should seek permission from the original authors before using such bitmaps for anything other than personal use...

What gauges in particular are you needing?

  • Author

Most of the gauges I used for my Alphasim F111 and Mike Stone F111 cockpit for FS9. I am interested in military panels and most of the gauges I used won't work in FSX. They are the best quality gauges I could find. If I had to pick one or two of the gauges they would be the ADI and STBY ADI and the HSI gauges. These were my first panels for MSFS because I was an avionics tech on the FB111A in the USAF. If you want to take a look you can download them from AVSIM or my website. Thanks for asking.
