WOW...My First Flight With RC-3 .....WOW

Featured Replies

Hi All,I am new to the RC world....and I have just taken my first flight with version 3. I found it to be more than what I have read.I took a short hop from GSO to ATL...I felt like I was getting real ATC.I do have some questions...I have read the manual...I might have missed something...1. Can new airline names be added?2. Changing voices...(Scott said he might write a program to do this)3. Why does FS ATIS come on when I ask for a WX briefing in RC4. Co-pilot Would not set the VS to a rate to meet restrictions on desent...not sure if I am to do that...CP was making changes.I feel this program is the best I have for FS2002Thanks for all who have worked on the program.A new loyal user to RC-3 !Eddie

1) yes, but all the controllers, chatter pilots, co-pilots, and me would have to record it. i might be the hardest person to get to record. but you record yourself as a pilot, dump me, and then convince everyone else to record "atkins air" LOL2) scott i guess is handling this.3) rc uses the same frequencies as the real world. so does ms. therefore you get both. in fs2002/2000 you can turn down the atc volume, and it will be less audible4) the co-pilot just sets the desired altitude in the ms auto pilot. the default descent rate is 1800, which is what get's set. i don't really know what plane you are in, so wouldn't know the appropriate descent rateand for all those who are saying "how did eddie score version 3 before us"? - he came to my little launch party last night in atlanta. he drove from side of the atlanta to the other.eddie - those inlaws you said that were visiting. they really didn't want to be with YOU, just your wife. go back to your computer! LOL

Hi Eddie,Glad you enjoyed the first flight - it can only get better :-)One thing in addition to jd's reply:3. If you are using the default panels (Many add-on panels have it as well) look on the radio panel for buttons marked com1, com2 and both. Before you start RC click the com2 button. Fsatc now only plays from the frequency set on com2 and you won't get the 'dual' atis playing. All the best,John

Thanks for the reply JD..One other thing about item 4>4) the co-pilot just sets the desired altitude in the ms >auto pilot. the default descent rate is 1800, which is what >get's set. i don't really know what plane you are in, so >wouldn't know the appropriate descent rate The co-pilot never used the default 1800. I was flying a CRJ 200ERshe used 800 to 1043 and no higher. Which is not a problem I will just keep an eye on her when she is flying...Thanks again for all of your hard work.Eddie

Thanks for your info John,I will look at that fix.And thanks for your hard work!Eddie

Hi Eddie,We are still training the co-pilot ;-)She doesn't touch vertical speed or air speed, you always have to do that yourself. All the best,JOhn

Hi Eddie, The descent rate of any aircraft is set in the respective .AIR file. Use an FDE program to revise this value. The 'Rule of Thumb" for most commercial pilots is 300-feet per NM. Of course this is dependant on many factors including, believe it or not, the total weight of the aircraft at the time of descent. Fantastic subject and it is only one of the many factors influencing rate-of-descent in the real world. Enjoy V3 and let us poor slobs who will be waiting until we receive it, hopefully, in early December can whet our appetites on your comments.Regards

I traveled to North Atlanta Ga to meet with JD for his RC-3 Dinner. All that was there got a copy and we tested the payment system for him.Later!Eddie

all and all a fair trade! LOLthanks for coming. i always have this fear i'll throw a party and no one shows.. :-(but not last night :-)

JD thanks for taking the time to hang out with us last night. It was alot of fun to meet you guys. For those waiting on RC3 I promise you It will be worth the wait. JD thanks again I hope we can do it again soon since we all live so close together. It's a small world after all :-lolCapt.Richard Dillon (KATL)www.jetstarairlines.comhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpghttp://jdtllc.com/images/RCsupporter.jpg"Lets Roll" 9/11 -----------------------Specs AMD 1600 XP MSI KT 266t pro2 512MB DDR 2100GF3 ti 200 64MB SBliveCh Products Yoke and Pedals(usb)Windows 2000 Serivce Pack 3

As John B. has pointed out, you can use the audio panel to select com1, com2. What this does it tell the default atc which com radio to use. RC always uses com1, and it doesn't care if com1 is active or not. In other words, if you make com2 the active, RC will still use com1 and you will still hear it. The really cool thing is that you can listen to the default atc on com2 while communicating with RC on com1. So the default atc is your "chatter", so to speak. If you use something like MyTraffic or PAI to create lots of ai traffic around you, you may not even need your RC chatter.Sidney Schwartz [KPDX]

I will just keep an eye on her when she is flying...If it's Ruthanne you'd better keep BOTH eyes on her!!! I've been trying to teach her to fly without entering an inverted, flat spin for years. I think RCv3 may finally allow her to fly from A to B in an "upright and locked" position! :7 :7:-lolMike Chttp://jdtllc.com/images/RCbeta.jpg

What...you each had to give up a pizza and a pitcher for JD? ;-)Rob
