Same for me Scott: mine is about 1/2 speed of yours. The pauses between each sound file make it sound as if the speaker would take a breath between each word.I defragged my HD and checked that all the relevant sliders on the dxapplet are on the left, especially the sound debug slider.JJ StruyfBraine-L'AlleudBelgiumhttp://jdtllc.com/images/RCsupporter.jpg

>Hi Scott, >>I also have the slow RCV3 problem. I am wondering if the >WindowsXP Pro NTFS file system using indexing has anything >to do with it. I know it is slower that a FAT32 system. >The FSATC runs fine if that means anything. >In some situations, NTFS might be slower, but in this particular application, it should be quite a bit faster. Each word (or phrase) that a controller or pilots speaks is a discrete WAV file. On an non-NTFS machine (ie: FAT32) the system first has to access the FAT on the hard drive to locate the file, then re-position the read-write heads to the file itself. With an indexed NTFS drive, the system goes to the file index (which is partially held in RAM memory) to find the file's location. Doing the "look up" of the each WAV file's location in the index is much faster. It reduces the amount of seeking and repositioning that the read/write heads would otherwise have to do.For what it's worth, when I initially ran RC3 on the same computer as FS2002 (a Pentium III 750, using Win98 SE), I had quite a few pauses. The controller speech was about half as fast as the demo Real Audio example. Now, I'm running RC3 on a second machine - a laptop, (AMD K6-350) which has Windows 2000 (Indexed NTFS). In this setup, the RC speech is every bit as fast and smooth as in the demo.Jim Barrett

I think it is better. Not close to Scott's tape, however.Bob, Rogers, Arkansas

I can confirm it's improved, but not yet quite as good as in Scott's file.Right now I am flying with Active Sky and FSWW. Will try without them.J.J.I am running a 1400 MHz AMD Athlon512 MBC-Media on board sound cardWindows XP HomeDirectX 8.1JJ StruyfBraine-L'AlleudBelgiumhttp://jdtllc.com/images/RCsupporter.jpg

Not much of a difference about 2 to 5% better, however the quality of the sound got a major hit.

>Not much of a difference about 2 to 5% better, however the >quality of the sound got a major hit. Yeah, I find that removing all hardware acceleration causing even FS2002 ATC to sound chopped and bad. Haven't recieved my RC V3 yet. Keeping my fingers crossed. ;)

Hello Everyone, I think, by now, JD and his Beta testers have enough information on this sound problem and are contemplating what steps can he/they take that will be the easiest, therefore cheapest, way to resolve this problem. I also do think that unless one has really new information we ought to let the JD Group work the problem out. I know some of us are let down temporarily but I am confident a fix will be forthcoming. I speak for myself and not for anyone involved with this product.Sincerely

...that what I'm hearing is even faster than what most of the team is hearing. It's a really bad example to use.I will pull the sample off since it's just "too good", if there is such a thing. It could be causing people to needlessly worry (you should see the beta list this morning :-lol).
