Problem Encountered

Featured Replies

Well, I finally got to meet Mr. Bill and, let me tell you, it was definitely not my fault. (Really, believe me and read on :-) ) I was pushing back from KMSY on my way back to KSTL in my Flight1 Iron Knuckles DC9 (Ozark) and after I got the engines started, flaps set, and completed my pre-taxi check list, I contacted ground. Ground told me to taxi to runway 10 and I auto responded. Ground then immediately told me to contact tower at 118.something. Huh? I'm just barely away from the gate! The auto respond feature contacted tower who told us to taxi into position and hold short. (I'm still taxiing up the taxiway, guys). Then, I'm told to "Get off the runway, 340 Go Around!, etc, etc" Hmmm. I'm still taxiing up taxiway Echo. The only choice I have on the Adventure Display is 2-Abort T/O so I chose that one. I was ask my intentions, so I said, what the heck, "Try Again". Then I was told to taxi to runway 10 and hold short. By now I was approaching the active end of r/w10 so no problem. I transferred the comms to my FO and set the brake. Everything went fine from then on. Upon getting my critique, I got to meet Mr. Bill. Something about a runway incursion. He asked me to "Help him out". Hmm. Thing is, this is the second time this automatically contacting the tower has happened. I don't know if my keyboard is doubling the "1" when I press it but this time wasn't the first time. (Contact Ground is "1" and after that Contact Tower is also "1").I schmoozed Mr. Bill and he was happy; But, he's on the way to the RC house to ask a few intimidating questions regarding programming. :-lol Anyone else getting this? Other than that, I've now flown over 15 flights with v3.0 and really enjoy it. Thanks, guys. And, both Brits (including #11 from Scott's web page) were working St. Louis today. Hmmmmm. Sounded just jolly old London!Steve Lewis :-walksmile

were you letting the copilot do the comms? if so, the problem is the parking brake.setting the parking brake after you have moved from the original starting location is cue to the co-pilot you have arrived at the runway, and you are holding short. then the co-pilot contacts tower.

jd, No, I actually thought that might have been the problem the first time so I follow the following procedure: When I'm ready to taxi, I release the parking brake and hold the brake in on my CH Yoke. I then contact Ground. I only give the comms to the FO after I'm well on my way to the active, like I said above, I gave him (which, by the way is you!--I've switched pilot and copilot voices around ) the comms as I approached my hold-short point at r/w 10. I've followed this procedure since the first occurrance. Could be that my "pressing 1" resulted in accidently causing it to register twice. I'll keep following the above procedure and report back if it occurrs again. Thanks for the extremely swift response! Have a Happy New Year and thanks for Radar Contact!Steve KCLE

An idea!Last night had almost the same thing happen to me at KDEN. Had RCV3 enabled and had clearance from ground to proceed to rwy 34. I was just getting away from the gate and all of a sudden I am getting requests to hold short, then even position and hold, and then cleared for takeoff. I was still 100 feet from the gate!!I sat back and thought about what was going on when all of a sudden I realized that when you PUSH BACK you not only use Shift "P" to stop and start but also a "1" or "2" to turn. I was hitting the "1" during push back numerous times and I think that is what did it.Just a thought guys!

Don,You have it just right. Using 1 or 2 for push does, in fact, also send the key to RC. Same if you want engine control - 1-4.You MUST assign a different key sequence in RC for 1-4. I use CS-1 to CS-4. Then I have full ATC control, engine control, and PB control, as well as full RC control.Re-assigning 1-4 will solve a lot. This is obviously what happened in Steve's case when he said he didn't have Robin on Comms and the pilot "auto-responded" by switching to Tower. RC doesn't auto-switch to any freq if Robin isn't on comms.

brilliant :-)change your rc keys for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 to ctrl-shift-1, 2, 3, 4, 5problem solved!pretty smart people in colorado!

>pretty smart people in colorado!I always thought so. ;-)

Hate to burst your bubble, guys, but I never use the "1" or "2" key with the FS pushback. Just "Shift"+"P". Just flew another flight and didn't have the problem. I was really careful when I pressed the "1" key once. Must have been getting a double entry. You RC guys might want to change the keys for Ground, etc., to "3" or whatever isn't used in the first choice. And, another problem encountered: Just flew into KEGE (Eagle County, Vail, CO). Runway given was 7 -- which isn't recommended for arrivals. Wind was minimal (2 kts out of the ESE). I looked and could not find the Choose Runway choice. I had a choice of many IAP approaches and Visual. I chose the Visual approach and landed on r/w 25! Got a fantastic grade (as usual with the exception of my meeting with Bill) but I took a little too much runway......... We won't tell you how much more! :-eek :( :-hah :-zhelp :-doh Steve

Steve,Runway request is right on page 1 of the menu on APC. Item 5, I think. Make sure you have the AdvDisp window stretched down enough. If you don't see 8-next 9-prev 0-main, then AdvDisp is too small.

or...(and this is not a commercial, jus a hint) get FS Assist, which has a pb/su function. It handles push-back/engines brilliantly, and I got rid ofthis stupid Shift-P/1/2 sorcery...So no need to re-assign keys. Cheers!Gideon van Melle

Thanks, Gideon, Just bought FSAssist. Won't be able to use it until Lago sends me the key, though. If it does the pushback like it did in MadDog2000 I'll be a happy camper! Thanks!Steve

Steve,After pushback and contacting ground you should be pushing '7' not '1'. '7' just acknowledges. Whereas '1' acknowledges and contacts tower. Not what you want to do before reaching the holding point eh ;)

That's with pilot auto-reply OFF.

Gideon & everyone-- Just installed FSAssist and tried it out. It's everything the pushback was in MadDog & MadDog2000. :-jumpy :-jumpy This will forever solve the Shift + P idiocy! Thank you very much, Gideon for the pointer! You can pushback at normal speeds to the distance you want to the direction you want and it even has the voice communication between the cockpit & ground crew! :-cool :-beerchug Steve

Does it still have the little Lago monkey ground chief?
