August 21, 200421 yr Hi,I currently fly the PMDG 737NG via the Virtual Cockpit, I'm having a problem with AdvDisp 3.30. When I switch the landing lights on, the text on AdvDisp vanishes, the only way I can get the text to show is to switch the landing lights off ...:-hmmmAnyone have any idea how to solve this, I have render to texture off and no panels to lock AdvDisp to as I'm in VC mode. I currently just have AdvDisp locked in the top left corner of the screen. Please help ...
August 21, 200421 yr Commercial Member do you have a second monitor? do you use widefs?what key is the landing lights on/off generating?jd JD Read my blog
August 23, 200421 yr Hi,I just used Radar Contact for the first time yesterday and found that I have the same problem. I have Radar contact on my laptop connected to the desktop via WideFS. I use the showtext program to display the info. With PMDG landing lights on (not sure what key it is using) my text disappears. I then would show the ADVdisplay box on the main computer and the text was gone as well. If I turn off the landing lights, I don
August 23, 200421 yr Hello,I also encountered the same problem flying (all of) the PMDG 737 aircrafts. Turning landing lights on, the ADVdisplay goes blank. Turning off, ADVdisplay comes up again.Juul Tango,Hasselt, Belgium.
August 23, 200421 yr Moderator Juul, Brian and Adam,I've just loaded the PMDG737 and placed AdvDisp on the panel and docked it. Yes, the display does blank when the landing lights are turned on (also happens on ShowText on a networked PC) but the display comes back after a second or so.It's probably to do with that fancy PMDG panel because it doesn't happen with the default 737 panel. Are you saying the display stays off until the l/lights are turned off or is it just for a second or two?Make sure you dock AdvDisp and it may limit the problem. Staying off for a second or so isn't a problem for me. Have you asked on the PMDG Forum as it would seem their panel could be contributing to the problem?Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). August 24, 200421 yr Hi,I was in the process of landing when it happened to me. My text seemed to flicker on and off for about 30 sec and then was off for at least a minute. I was playing with the lights when I noticed that if I turned off the Landing lights, the text came back and stayed visible. No big deal for me, will just fly with out landing lights for now. I will check tonight to see if the text does come back after a few moments if I don't fiddle.thanks Bryan
August 24, 200421 yr Moderator Bryan,I should have mentioned my setup...FS2004, PMDG737-700 running in Windowed mode at 1280*1024*32-bit colour with the Main panel displayed in 2D mode (not virtual). I haven't tried in full-screen mode and I don't have the 800/900 series aircraft.Try running in windowed and 2D mode and see if it helps. My experiences are quite different to yours and although the text disappears briefly it isn't a major problem.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). August 25, 200421 yr Hi Ray,I'm also running in windowed mode (1280*960 32-bit colour), I fly the NG in VC mode and have all the NG range. I find this happens to all once the landing lights are switched on. I do feel that this is more a question for Pete Dowson, as AdvDisp is his baby ... ?I can live with this, but just thought I'd mention it incase a new version of AdvDisp is in the works. :)
August 25, 200421 yr Moderator Hi Adam,<AdvDisp is Pete's but the fact that it happens with ShowText (a stand-alone executable designed to show this text on a separate networked PC) shows that it is not a AdvDisp problem. ShowText is by another author. It doesn't happen with the default panel so I'm afraid it is something that PMDG are doing with their panel that is causing it. I really don't know what else to say on this but if you want to discuss it with Pete you can post a message here ... http://forums.simflight.com/viewforum.php?...bd063e5c3423347Good luck! August 25, 200421 yr Commercial Member pete dowson writes:It's been reported before, and I contacted PMDG about it. It seems to be only since the 800/900 update -- this effectively updates the 600/700 too. I didn't have these aircraft at that time, and PMDG could not reproduce the problem with their current build. They then sent me the latest, and I cannot reproduce it either, so I am fairly sure that whatever it was it is fixed in the latest update -- I assume this is the Service Update 1 which was released at the end of July. August 26, 200421 yr I have never had that problem with the landing lights but I alsoinstalled the service pack and the upgrade to the 800-900 seriesat the same time, so that tells me it was a problem without theservice update.
August 26, 200421 yr Skyhog,I do agree with you. Before I had the 800-900 series (with update) installed, I never had this problem either.Juul Tango,Hasselt, Belgium
August 26, 200421 yr jd,Thanks for speaking to Pete.I am sure I have all the updates installed, but I will install them all again and see what happens. Thanks,
January 10, 200521 yr I have been seeing the same problem, Landing-light on, RCv3 text off and vice-versa but I think I may have found a workaround for this problem.I re-displayed the Advdisp window ontop of the 738 2D-panel last night just before I took off from EGLL, (usually have the window "always hidden" as I use Text-Display across a WideFS connection). I then right clicked on the Advdisp window and selected "show multiple lines" and then re-hid the Advdisp window.Low-and-behold I got my RCv3 text back even with the landing-lights on. The only drawback seems to be the green-text window (usually used for AS2004 metar text updates) is now taller (5 or 6 empty lines) than it would normally be. This seemed to work flawlessly on a 8 hour flight from EGLL to OMDB last night.
