November 1, 200520 yr Another runway question - I seem to be becoming obsessed with them.At an airport that requires a backtrack for departure, will the AI actually backtrack and takeoff, or will they just take off from where ever the taxiway meets the runway?I'm assuming there will be alot of go-arounds if AI are having to backtrack. Will landing at such an airport be possible?-Phil Phil Brown
November 1, 200520 yr Moderator Phil,At Innsbruck you need to backtrack on 08 and perform a 180 to line-up for departure. I'll keep an eye on Ai traffic and see what they do.I've only seen backtracks at relatively quiet airports such as LOWI so I doubt GAs are a regular event.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). November 1, 200520 yr Moderator Phil,I've been watching what happens at LOWI and Ai aircraft don't backtrack to the end of the runway before departing. Instead they depart from the taxiway intersection about 1/4 from the end.Bear in mind Radar Contact v4 does not interfere with Ai taxiing aircraft except to freeze them as you come in to land. So in answer to your question yes, you should have no problem landing at such an airport.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). November 2, 200520 yr I am really sorry, but I notice your from England. This has nothing to do with RC or flightsimming for that matter - but England itself.I am really curious, to the police in England carry guns? At one time I understood that they dont, but that was 20 years ago.Dont have to answer if this is out of line.BTW "aircraft except to freeze them as you come in to land" - is this true for all AI moving at the airport or just the ones attempting to enter the runway your about to land on? November 2, 200520 yr As long as there is a starting point at the taxiway/runway intersection, does RC 3.1/4 recognise intersection (ie. midfield) alignments for take-off? This is of course more appropriate for smaller aircraft at larger airports where such small aircraft at V1 would have more than enough runway left.
November 2, 200520 yr Moderator Hi Mike,The vast majority of the police in the UK are still unarmed and hopefully will stay that way. At some high-profile places such as airports a small number of armed officers patrol with weapons highly visible.Regarding freezing Ai aircraft certainly all in the vicinity of the landing runway will be frozen for a short time whilst you're on finals. Once you've landed they're unfrozen. I'm not sure if the whole airport is affected. I'm concentrating on landing so I don't notice all this freezing.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). November 2, 200520 yr Moderator Ronzie,Yes, v4 will monitor your aircraft's position relative to the departing runway and once you are close to it (either at the threshold or further along) will clear you to line up and hold.I haven't flown v3 in ages but you should still be able to contact TWR at any point adjacent to the runway once you're ready to depart.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). November 3, 200520 yr As usual, I was not clear in my query :). Once you have taxi into position (for takeoff) and hold, are you required to be at a runway starting point (as seen by AFCAD) and is it OK to have another at a midfield intersection in order to get final take-off clearance. I know you need to be near a starting point (I went through this in another forum with Lars Kluver getting him through this with a displaced threshold/runover taxi to threshold) but just want confirmation on multiple starting points for the same runway. Thanks for replying, Ray.
November 3, 200520 yr Hi there,You don't need to be at the end of the runway to be cleared for takeoff. You simply need to be on the runway and lined up on the runway heading. All the best,John
