Incorrect wx report again at destination

Featured Replies

This is the second flight where the wx per ASV 6 is overcast at the destination, but ATIS reports sky clear. Got the winds and runway and altimeter correct.I am not using online wx updates, so the wx at the destination remained the same the entire flight.Greg

at what point did you get your weather from rc?show me the asv metar linejd

I got it about 60to 70 miles out by requesting it from the menu before it is automatically requested. Then the automatic request came, and it was the same both times.Greg

Hi Greg,RC gets the weather provided from AS6 via FSUIPC. (There is a utility called weatherset2 which comes with FSUIPC that enables you to see what weather is being reported to us for any point in the FS world). In other words we are not reading the metar directly from AS6.If there is a problem it could be in the interaction between AS6, FSUIPC and FS.In theory RC only states what is being reported by FSUIPC at the arrival airport at the time you request the weather. It might be worth mentioning this on the AS forum as well. All the best,John

really needs to be inside 60. do you remember whether the report was the arrival atis, or "in-flight"i think there is an option in active sky that forces the arrival weather when you are a certain distance away. i don't remember.jd

This was the arrival ATIS. I know what you are saying about enroute weather. If I press option 2 to check the weather enroute, I get different weather reports at unidentified stations presumably along the route. The ASV flightwatch would do the same, but use the 3 letter station identifier to allow one to know what station is referred to.In these two cases, the station ID was clearly identified as PDX both times (ie before the automatic call for weather and after the automatic call for weather), with identical reports both times.I can bring this up in the ASV forum to see if other ASV users are running into the same problem if this seems anomalous compared to users who do not use ASV.Greg

i'll ask the beta testers to get the arrival weather at 50 miles on their next flight, and we'll see what they say.jd

Yessir :-lolHow about we get it at 70, 60 and 50 miles and see if it changes. All the best,John

Hi there,I just did a test flight which rather confirmed my suspicions that you can't just look at the metar in AS6 and assume that's what AS6 creates in the sim. AS6 and FS9 are way more complex than that (thank heavens). For example I was departing FADN (nearest station FADN 0 miles away).AS6 metar isFADN 080800Z 22015G25KT 4000 -RA BKN010 BKN018 22/20 Q1009 NOSIGDecoded in AS6 as Wind: 220 True, 15 KtsVis: 4002 Meters, 2 SMClouds: 1000 BrokenPrecip: Light RainTemp: 22C Dew: 20CPressure: 1009.00 mb, 29.80 inchesRC atis reports 400 overcastFS atis reports 300 overcastWeatherset 2 has clouds 8/8 345ft to 8196ft.Looking out the airplane it's raining and overcast at 300 to 400 feet.So the atis is correct but differs from the metar. So don't get hung up on the metar.Question is does RC correctly report the weather which has been generated in the sim. For the sky clear message I still need to confirm that. All the best,John

With AS the destination weather is progressed according to destination/flight time, not METAR time. The destination METAR is just a "seed". Except within the optional suppression range destination will dynamicly change from the METAR at weather load time with flight time aging destination weather. It will also do this at departure if you are there long enough. ATIS at departure has always been close to my departure AS METAR if weather is not rapidly changing.I have also noticed that when AI is refreshed after the weather is written to FS, at that point ATIS changes.Don't forget there is the option in AS to use system time or FS time.

And as an additional precaution to get the correct weather in FS9 from ASV, always CLEAR WX from FSUIPC before processing ASV weather (better: clear wx via the FS9 wx dialog windwo, then clear via FSUIPC, then process with ASV. Better start with ASV set to need a refresh of wx after FS9 is loaded). If you don't clear wx via FSUIPC it can result in incorrect weather depiction, no matter waht METAR shows.

I have tried the steps above, but still keep getting "sky clear" at destination when it is overcast. These are on days when it is raining all day. Wx at departure is accurate. I have not tried any flights without Active Sky.Greg

launch rcclick debugload the .plnset your rc optionsclick "start rc"fly the flight, get your weather, sky clear, and all that. finish the flight.zip up the .log file, and send it to [email protected]

I will try this. It might take awhile. I did notice last couple of flights that if I did not request the weather at all during the flight, and let it do so automatically, that the destination weather was correctly reported.Greg
