4.01 FPS stutter. Soundcard?

Featured Replies

Ok, I now have to jump in. I too have a intergrated sound on my Asus board and don't really take a frame rate hit but I do get a stutter each time the controller begins his sentence. So, seperate sound card that's fine, but I did not have this problem with 4.0. Maybe I am missing something but if you had the stutter problem before you would have it now, right?? The stutter at small airports I can deal with, it's major airports where the controller is controling at all times that the stutter become a problem.

in 4.0, i simply played a wav, then played another wav, not real cpu hit.in 4.01, i read all the wavs, concatenate them, and then play it. it's a little more cpu intensivejd

Just as a thought here, is there a way maybe in the next update to have an option to give the user a option on how he wants to play the wav?? I'm surely not going to go buy a soundcard just for RC4.1, that's insane. And let me clear, I am locked at 24fps and that does not budge but I do get a stutter when RC4's "reads all the wavs". And like I said, small airport and not much traffic is bearable, but it's annoying as heck at Denver or major airports.

what else are you running with fs9? what version numbers?

Not running anything with else with FS9 except RC4.1 on the FS machine. Active sky and FSmooth are running on anther machine via Wide FS.Not sure what you mean by version #'s, but F9 is updated to 9.1 if that helps any.

version numbers of active sky, fsmooth, fdc, etc.there are known problems with older version of fdc, for instance

Active sky = the latest update, I think it's build 470.FSsmooth = 1.10 but I have not looked for newer version.Wide FS - 6.51Maybe I'm not to against buying a soundcard, I have some Bestbuy gift cards that I need to use up. JD, and others would this soundcard be suffcient??http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=1118841165481

hard to say. i have a audigy 2 card.and this may not help the problem you are experiencing. i can't make guarantees from here (long distance).jd

I'm getting a definite stutter as well during speech. I moved the slider on Direct X to 3/4 and am still getting the stutter. I have RC4 on my D drive and FS9 on my C Drive and nothing else. I run Active Sky and Ultimate Traffic in conjunction with FS. I did not have the stutter with the preivious version. ASUS A8N SLI Mobo AMD64 3500 1 G RAM Creative Audigy 2 Nvidia 6600 GT PCIe I also defrag both drives 3 - 4 times per week. It's a minor annoyance but annoying nevertheless. Any advice would be appreciated. Craig

Hi Craig,Is the stutter always there or is it dependent on the frame rate being low? I'm guessing that because you run everything on one computer it's placing a greater strain on all your programs including RC4 and FS9 of course.Whilst you have separate partitions they're all being controlled by one processor and even with a powerful one such as yours it will suffer if pushed too far.As you may have seen in another thread the wavs are being processed in a different way now which is why you may be having these problems but because the sounds are so much more fluent when the system is not overtaxed it's the way we neeed to go with RC4.I'm sure if you could ease the load on the processor then you would get much better performance from RC4 and FS. I run them both on a P4 3.0 and I only have an occasional pauses - generally with the ATIS. After that things are fine. All my other software - AS6, Project Magenta and AiSmooth runs on an old Athlon 2000 via WideFS and it's fine.If you have an old computer sitting around not doing anything consider utilising that. It doesn't need to be powerful or to have a fancy graphics card. Moving AS6 and RC4 to it would give you a huge boost in performance not only for FS9 but also RC4. You would need WideFS from Pete Dowson of course but in thse days when we want to run so many programs, a single computer, however powerful it is, just can't hack it.Hope that helps.

It's just a split second stutter...not even long enough to really change the framerate which I have set at 30 and usually get between25 and 29 with everthing running. I may try running one of the programs or even two on the other machineI have and usually use as basically a server or storage. It's an old P2 266.....would that work do you think?? As I said it's just a split second stutter that is downright annoying. It only started happening after the update to RC4. Craig

<>It should be fine for AS6 and RC4 providing you have a reasonable sound card for it. If you do move RC4 you will need a new key of course and the MakeRunways utility is slightly more complicated but that's all covered in the manual.Rc4 is not processor intensive so I'm sure you'll be fine. And the beauty of running RC4 on a separate PC to FS is that you can control the volume independently.Cheers,

Well, after tonight departing Denver, me personally I am going back to the orginal RC4. When you have that much traffic it's just to annoying. I see Craig has a independent sound card and he still has stutters so I will foget about that idea.I really like the voices in RC4.1 JD and some of the new features, but it's bugs the heck out of me to be locked at 24fps and stay steading at 24fps and see stutters every time the controller starts a sentence.

Please let us know how you make out with going back to the earlier version. As we both have similar systems and both have the same problem I don't believe its the hardware. So far with my system it will take anything I throw at it in FS9and stay rock steady at 25-29 fps....until the patch or upgrade. At any rate the folks at Radar Contact have developed a fantastic productwhich I will continue to use one way or the other.Hopefully they will soon develop a patch to alleviate this small but annoying problem.Let us know what happens on the rollback.RC4 developers keep up the great work.Craig

I agree with you Craig, RC4 is wonderful. I will let you know most likely no later than tomorrow, it's going to be a cold weekend here so I can get alot of flying in.
