How long to wait for instructions?

Featured Replies

Hi, I got RC a few weeeks ago and on the whole it is great. However I sometimes run into problems with having a very long wait before recieving instructions. When flying out of Queenstown in New Zealand I get told to line up and wait and then don't get a take-off clearance. I have waited up to ten minutes but still no clearance. I have then started my take-off roll and then get a clearance when about halfway down the runway. Is this a problem with RC recognising my position on the runway?I have also had a similar thing in Cairns, Australia. I was told to hold position while an AI aircraft took off. After the aircraft had gone I didn't recieve any further instructions. I waited for a reasonable time and then just taxied out. Once again I recieved a line-up instruction as I was entering the runway. This makes me think RC hasn't recognised that I was at the holding point. In real life you can call up and say "hey tower, did you forget about us?" Unfortunately in RC there is no option to query ATC.So my ultimate question is, with no other AI aircraft activity, how long should I wait for instructions before suspecting I've been "forgotten"?Also is there some tweaking necessary to the scenery files to ensure that my position on the runway is recognised by RC?BTW in both cases where I started rolling without a clearance and entered the runway without a clearance I got a "great job... put FISDA (sp?) out of service..." critique.

Along similar lines. I'm currently flying from Horn Island (uncontrolled) to Cairns. I was given a 3000' altitude restriction both during clearance delivery and on first contact with center after take-off. 20 minutes later and I have not yet been given climb to higher levels. The flight plan was for FL210, 21000 is in the RC flight setup.I know I can just request climb, and that is what I'm about to do, but does anyone know why I'm not getting it automatically?

there is a link pinned at the top of the forum, on where to get the latest fsuipc, and makerwys.get them, install them. makerwys goes into the root of the fs directory.after that, click on the "rebuild rc scenery database" and let it run until all of your scenery is scanned.then try a flight. maybe tutorial number 1 in the manualmight as well get a .log of it, so we can troubleshoot any issues you have.start fsstart rcclick debugload the .plnclick start rcfly your tutorialsend the .log, zipped, and your comments, and i'll take a lookjd

I have run makerwys again but had a similar problem out of Cairns with not being told to line up until I got frustrated and entered the runway on my own. There was a bit of traffic though so it's not conclusive that the orginal problem still exists. I'll do the flight again and make a log.Would it be better if I fly the secific flight I'm having problems with? I'm only having these problems in certain circumstances.Jonathan

the goal is to duplicate the problem. however, wherever is most likeyly to cause the problemand be sure, you click debug, before you load your .plnjd

I've got the sim running at the moment and the problem was duplicated. Debug was selected prior to loading the plan. After waiting for about 15 minutes for some line up instructions at Cairns (there was a bit of AI traffic and I wanted to be sure the wait was not due to conservative controlling,) I nosed forwards to a point beyond the depicted holding point but still short of the runway. Tower then gave me line up instructions. Is it possible for the scenery file to have mismatched holding point definitions? Is there a way to manually change this?I will still send the log to you once the flight is finished.

makerwys creates the data i need to perform the clearance for takeoff.look forward to the .logjd

jd,This seems somewhat similar to my problem (no keystoke sent to RC).Sometimes it does never response to my action (key stroke not transmitted) sometime late response notably if I press Alt or Alt-Enter (see our private e-mailing).For the other people this is my problem:RC sends options to chosse: 1 or 2 or 3 etc...I press the corresponding key for the action I want. RC answers. But from time to time a keystroke is not transmitted to RC. The FSUIPC and RC logs show this. This gives the impression that RC is not functionning correctly but in fact it doesn't get the request.Sometimes when I press Alt or Alt-Enter the situation gets unblocked therefore the impression that RC answers lately.Maybe your problem and mine are independant but I wanted to let you know my experience. At this time the problem is not solved but jd did give me a way around.Roger

jd,One more info.To unblock the KB it is not pressing Alt or Alt-Enter that really helps. But what seems to work at each time to unblock the KB is by going to View then request an instrument panel to appear or remove from the screen. Once I do that I can enter a request to RC and it response.Do you wish that we open a new thread for this problem or do we continu with the present thread ? I still believe they could be related. But then this is a FSX or FSUIPC problem. Not RC.Roger

It sounds like something is stealing focus from your main FS window. For RC to receive keystrokes be sure you do not click on the RC sub-window but click somewhere on your main FS view (such as the panel) window to restore focus. The clue is that pressing ALT or ALT-Enter are "metakeys" for windows that can change the state of the open window. If you are using an add-on that "steals" keystrokes and the assignments are conflicting or keystrokes that are not used by it are not passed through, then in the first case reassign RC or your add-on keys.Make sure any unneeded background applications and services are turned off.If you have an FMC either on your panel or as a separate add-on in its own window be sure its keyboard intercept is turned off so keystrokes pass through.I do not fly on-line so I make sure my security apps and Ethernet port are disabled when using FS. Outside of FS since installing Zone-Alarm (firewall plus anti-spyware) I notice it occasionally steals focus from my apps for a brief moment.

is the main fs window what has focus when you press the rc keys?not a secondary or tertiary window?

jd,The RC window (or dialog box where the available options are displayed) is on the secondary monitor. Does that answer your question ? Or by main fs window focus do you mean that the last mouse click was done on the main fs window? I will probably do some more tests before it is day time on your side of the Atlantic.Roger

Your message clarifies jd following message. I will do some tests and come back with the results. I am now working with FSX and XP Pro just like I did in fs9 and XP family. Then I did not have any problem.I will let you know.Roger

the main fs window has to have "focus" so fs can see the keystroke, and when fs sees the keystrokes, rc will see the keystrokesjd

jd,O.K.THAT is the problem. I made a complete flight without any FSUIPC/RC problem. My last problem was to understand what you meant by focus. In FS9 I never had that problem.Thank you.Roger
