March 18, 200818 yr My "local" Leeds-Bradford (EGNM) does not have what I would describe as a "conventional" taxiway/runway layout. Leaving the gate for departure requires entry to the runway and then backtracking to the "start" of runway.Every time I depart I am told to proceed to the holding point. I use the available taxiway and "hold" - not entering the runway.Every time - I am left waiting and waiting often with NO other traffic arriving or in the vicinity. So I enter the runway and commence backtracking and then, instead of being reprimanded for leaving the holding point, am just instructed to contact Tower.Question - does RC not recognise those runways with a requirement for backtracking? If I enter the runway without stopping at the holding point at, say, KSEA, I am immediately jumped on in no uncertain terms!!!If the backtracking is not recognised as such it means that I can enter and go straight to the runway starting position - assuming no other traffic is in the circuit (which I would see from FSCommander screen).Just curious:-wave Old enough to know better... ...young enough to do most of it again! March 18, 200818 yr Moderator Hi Ken,RC normally expects you to be close to the runway end and as you approach that point you should be given a clearance to "line up and wait" providing no inbounds are close.Where you have to enter further down the runway it's necessary to slow right down to 2-3kts as you approach it. Make sure the aircraft nosewheel is just over the hold short line.RC will then detect your position and give you clearance to "line up and wait". You can then enter the runway and backtrack to the end. You won't be given a take-off clearance until the aircraft turns 180 and is lined up.If you have 3rd party scenery (Gary Summons' UK2000?) make sure you have rebuilt your scenery database to ensure RC knows precisely where you are in relation to the runway.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). March 18, 200818 yr Author >Hi Ken,>>... Make sure the>aircraft nosewheel is just over the hold short line...Ray, that is probably what it is!! I tend to stop just short of the holding line. March 21, 200818 yr A quick question in relation to Gary's Leeds scenery. The holds for both runways are quite far back from the runway compared to the holds for default sceneries. I find that I have to taxy well over the hold points some times to force RC to see that I'm ready at the runway. Will rebuilding the RC database solve this problem? Phil Brown
March 21, 200818 yr Moderator Phil,It's essential that the database is rebuilt after adding any 3rd party scenery. If you haven't done that after installing this scenery that could explain why you need to cross the hold short line. Ray (Cheshire, England). March 23, 200818 yr RayAfternoon to you. You've had some good approaches to watch recently I would think. At EGCC I mean.Out of academic interest does the rebuild function apply if you've altered a runway allocation in AFCAD?E.g.As at Manch to avoid them landing on 23R(24R as was)I notice the same problem as described by the origial poster at Auckland too.You can of course clear the AI in Ultimate Traffic by going to 8x.that wipes 'em all out!
March 23, 200818 yr Moderator Hi Chris,And a good afternoon to you even though for me it isn't. Don't ask, the result at Old Trafford was not to my liking. Enough said.:( I only get to the airport when it's warm and sunny. We woke up to snow today so needless to say I didn't venture out of the house.I'm pretty sure that RC will ignore closed runways so yes, whenever you close or open a runway run the rebuild.I use the Toggle Traffic option in FSUIPC button assignments but if 8X works for you then why not. :-)Cheers Ray (Cheshire, England). March 23, 200818 yr Oh Dear! And I assumed you must have been a fan of MU.Stiil,we'll(Stoke) be joining you next season. If we keep our nerve!I don't use 8X very often but it serves to wipe out the huge queues that build up in LAX/ATL/ORD etc!Don't the inbounds to 23L pass over you?I sort of assumed they didAnother query.I just did a trip from EGLL-RJAA and somewhere over China I got an endless loop of RC chatter seemingly from Heathrow Ground giving taxi instructions.the same ones over and over.Never had that before.
March 23, 200818 yr Moderator Look forward to playing you next season. Just hold your nerve.:-)I think you meant 23L earlier. That is normally closed to landings. I live under the LISTO SID for 05L. Fortunately aircraft normally land on 23R passing to the north of me.If you have a log for that incident send it to JD but I'm guessing you probably didn't switch logging on. :-( I bet you won't hear that looping again if you refly. March 23, 200818 yr Yes Ray, too much Cab Sauv with lunch!I meant 23R/24R.Although I believe a few have landed on 23L,probably the odd PA28 whilst training.I live 29nm S on the 190 radial.so we do get the occasional departure when they are put on headings. It happens fairly often but they're usually at 10000+ by then.In the BAC 1-11/Trident days it was quite noisy even here.No I didn't have logging on!
March 23, 200818 yr Moderator Hi Chris,<>In darkest Newcastle-under-Lyme I see. :-) They're nice and high for you by then. Try living here when the southbound 747s barely make 2000ft as they fly over my house.:-hah But as you say, it was a lot nosier in the old days. I remember those 1-11s but not with a lot of affection. Now Concorde... I could make an exception for her! The technical tour is worth doing if you get up to the Viewing Park. I went with Pete Dowson last Sept. They even let you sit in the flight deck and I sat in 5C - Michael Jackson's seat! If only we could have start the engines!:-lol Enjoy your Cab Sauv assuming there's any left by now! ;-) I knew you wouldn't have logging on. We have to for v5 testing. :-)Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). March 23, 200818 yr RayYes just SW of Newcastle. We get the odd fast RAF at low level but much less than we ued to.Lots of choppers from Shawbury thoughI do get to the viewing area occasionally but mainly when my wife visits John Lewis!I must try to organise a trip round Concorde.I went on the one at Duxford a while back.Good luck with v.5.It seems it will be much different from 4.3
March 25, 200818 yr Thinking of V.5 Ray I seem to have lost the "wish list" pages. Are they still accessible? Not that I've got anything much to add to those ideas already put forward.
March 25, 200818 yr Moderator Hi Chris,I'm not aware of a v5 wishlist. Perhaps JD can help? Ray (Cheshire, England). March 25, 200818 yr Hi RaySorry.I meant that I thought I'd seen some threads referring to what users were suggesting to JD as ideas for V5.I only see 3 pages now and no references to V5..Imagining things again was I?Must be an age thing!
