  1. Yes - have that correct. Can't see any reason for this - but, as I said, it does not appear to be actually causing me a problem when flying TP.here is the eror messageBarryhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/192519.jpg
  2. I notice lately that I am getting 404 error messages when using G*** Service 2. Strangely enough, it doesn't appear to be spoiling my experience of TP - just I can see the error messages in the TP box.I know what 404 messages indicate - basically, a bad address - so any ideas??EDIT - I have just noticed that the map version of G*** in the area that I am currently flying is 31 - I have been using 30 in my INI file. Could this be the problem? Thanks Barry
  3. I agree with Christian. I have a mere Duo-Core machine and a 1 meg Internet connection - and I am very happy with TP, using 1 metre resolution.Delete your FSx.cfg - regenerate a new one - then change the scenery settings from within FSx to what gives you a pleasant FSx default experience. Then reinstall TP using Ed Truthans guide - make sure it shows updated maps. STOP with the FSX so-called "fixes" - for example, playing around with "Fiber frame" -- none of these are needed. You should be getting a very good TP experience straight out of the box!!And read the manual - I dont know how many times I see screenshots of people flying fast jets, and wondering why they cant get clear TP images.Barry
  4. Here is a screenshot of a place very close to where I live - the southern tip of Moreton Island, just off Brisbane, Queensland. Moreton Island is a silicon sand island - with high, blindingly bright, pure white sandhills. The sand is so fine that it "squeeks" when you walk on it. Here you can see the white sand in the shallow water surrounding the island - at least on the bay side of the island.TP as good as it gets, for me. Without TP, the water here shows as a bright neon blue as far as the eye can see - yuk, very unrealistic. http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/192484.jpg
  5. I agree - I don't fly anywhere now without TP! Sometimes I might start up FSx by itself - but it is just so CARTOONY, I don't last long with it. Barry
  6. G'day SkybazI am not too sure about the neeed for a "powerful" rig to run TP - no more powerful than is required just to run FSx.But you do need a fast Internet connection!!:-). Also, as the tiles are being downloaded via the Net, any net congestion is going to affect your experienceBarry
  7. Hi The highest res mesh I have installed is a 10 meter mesh for Hawaii - which works very well - especially when used in conjunction with TileProxy.Does anybody know of any other 10 meter meshes available? Thanks Barry
  8. Hmm - nearly got caught out - Flying around and exploring for just a little too long - fortunately the airport at Dunedin is out of town in a rural area and I can just pick out the lights.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/192100.jpgBarry
  9. Looks like I might be going on a cruise to NZ early next year. Amongst other places, the cruiseship goes to Dunedin - so I thought I would check it out in TP. The entry into Otago Harbour looks like it will need a Harbour Pilot - for a 77,000 tonne vesselhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/192099.jpgBarry
  10. I have had this problem in the past with FSx - but only very occasionally.I find when using TP that it is better to setup your default flight (that is the one that the Sim opens up to and all you have to do is click "FLY") before starting TP. This means I start TP - and then, after the TP box indicates everything is OK , I start FSx. It takes a while for FSx to startup and go to the saved flight that I will be using, and then I click "Fly".I believe my problem with FSX crashing to desktop was somehow linked to my changing the flight scenario ( aircraft, startup airport, weather , date/time)) while TP was attempting to start downloading tiles. By going through my startup sequence as detailed, I now no longer have problems with the Captcha form Barry
  11. What does "true FSx" mean? -- you need SP2 installed? I installed an aircraft yesterday which was "see through" - I only have SP1 installed.Barry
  12. Yes - there are errors. Your iNI file seems to be setup for FSx , instead of FS9Change these things below -- I don't know if this is your problem , but perhaps.********************************************************logfile="C:logfile.txt" should be #logfile="C:logfile.txt" (This turns the logfile reporting system off - as recommended for FS9)max_lod=15 should be max_lod=13 (Your max load is currently set for FSx)preload_max_lod=15 should be preload_max_lod=12 ( once again - you need to use FS9 numbers)preload=1023 is missing from bottom part of MOVINGMAPsection******************************************************************See how you go with thatBarry
  13. PaulCan you please post the content of your INI file here - we have had people say they are using the latest version and when they post it, it is all incorrect.Barry
  14. Hi FalconI am not in anyway disputing your point - some of my non-gaming friends have computers which are unbelieveable (to me). One with a very late model laptop running Vista - has 86 running processes!!x( As the OP, I think that you could not be expected know that my machine is clean. And for others, they would not know that, even though my machine is not the VERY latest - its specs are WELL ahead of what is stated to be minimum for the Sim to run. (And I don't/won't accept that this is "normal" for games - companies like MS and others should be held responsible and accountable for their very bad adherence to "truth in advertising" principles). WE have Legislation in my country dealing with this kind of thing - I wonder if it has ever been tested in the realm of computer software. I have to admit that I do get anoyed with people who state (either explicitly or implicitly) that the very latest Quad core CPUs and the very latest high cost GPUs with a minimum of 512 vid RAM is necessary to run something as simple as a Mission that uses ( as far as I can see) default aircraft with addon paint skins.Something is not right with that - who knows what? We are actually dealing with 3 Sims wehen we talk about FSx - RTM, SP1, and SP2. Who knows what Sim this mission was developed for - who knows what SDK was used in it's development, or whether any was used at all.I removed SP2 from my machine in the very early days of my FSx installation- because I was getting graphical "spikes" reaching into the sky (have seen a few instances of this also reported by others)- this was on a totally clean installation, RTM +SP1+SP2. Once again it was spasmodic - and if I recall correctly, also only happened either in default Missions or under some weather conditions. NOTHING - I tried after lots of Internet research got rid of them - except after uninstalling SP2 . Hey presto - instant relief( note I din't say cure) AS I said, I am quite happy with my FSx SP1 - happy enough to not want to purchase a 512 Meg vid card for say around $200 AUD just so I don't get the odd graphical glitch in some circumstances. Barry
  15. Hmmm - you must be reading a different set of posts to what I am readingBarry
  16. Hi PhilThanks for that input. This problem HAS to lie within the particular scenario (mission) - I can load up the identical a/c at the same airport , same weather etc - with scenery set as high as I like with no real problems (setting a realistic max frame rate.) But with this particular mission, I have to set every single scenery slider and checkbox to absolute minimum/off to be able to load the a/c properly. Apart from this , FSx is fine by me - within limitations of course. PS 512 meg vid cards are NOT necessary to run this sim wellBarry
  17. "There are PLENTY of us who are running FSX with PLENTY of those additional addons, and the program runs FINE. No OOM's, no stuttering, no Blue Screens of Death...it runs FINE."*************************************************That is true -- my machine runs FSx FINE - I have already said that. No blurries, no OOM's , no stuttering, plenty of addons , I often fly with Tileproxy and it is fantastic. My question is/was - why do these anomolies happen only sometimes?? The answer is not that my machine is not well maintained - nor is it that FSx needs to be rebooted. So far - only one person (apart from the buy bigger/better hardware crowd) has given me a possible suggestion to follow - the FPS slider. I have already stated that the scenery sliders make no difference to the situation! - so I am severly doubting that these sliders(and hence vid RAM) have anything to do with this problem. There is only one scenario where I can consistently repeat this problem - that is the free Mission from Just Flight - I will play around with it today in regards to the FPS slider and see if I can figure something out from that. Barry
  18. I dont have the minimum - 32 MB is the minimum. I have 256 mbBarry
  19. Nah - no playing around here with "Bufferpools" - standard default FSx.So far the only (highly unsatisfactory) answer to this is essentially that nobody knows the reason for this - except they have found that throwing more hardware at the problem has sent it away. Now let me see - what are the recommended minimum specs for this commercial product - OH yes - I can see here on the box 32 meg Video RAM -- my 256 meg should be AMPLE! And , in fact, it is ample - for most things! Except for these occasional glitches which I have enquired about.Barry
  20. Thanks PhilThis has been pointed out to me before - however my vid card has 256 meg RAM and, I keep an eye on vid RAM being used (by using MEMSTATUS). The Vid RAM when this anomoly occurs does not exceed the amount of RAM on the card - and, in my attempts to get some kind of commonality or re-occurence of the situation, I have at times increased my vid settings to the point where the vid RAM used is excessive - BUT the anomoly does not appear. And this "discombobulation" :-) only happens now and again. If it wasn't coming from you directly- I hate to say that I would have regarded an answer like this as being one of those answers that are given when nobody knows the answer. I should rephrase that -- sometimes it appears to me that it is very easy to say that the answer to a problem lies with better hardware.BTW - this happens when I am on the ground.Sorry Barry
  21. Hi Christian I know what you just said was in English - because I recognise the words - but that was about it!! :-) Anyway, thank you for what you have provided so far - and I hope you are learning and having fun :-) Barry
  22. I run FSx with SP1 - using an Intel Dio Core with 2 Gig RAM and a 256 meg vid card. I am reasonably happy with its performance - and it largely does what I want.BUT - every now and then, when I load up a flight or mission, I discover that my aircraft wings are on upside down , or the helo rotor is at right angles to where it should be or the control column is upside down, rudder pedals have disappeared, etc.I cant find any consistent reason for this - or any reason at all really. I have eliminated weather, set scenery settings to minimum, etc - and it seems to make no difference. For example - whenever I load up the free sample Mission from Just Flight , it always loads with the helo rotor at right angles to where it should beHas anybody else seen anything like thisThanks barry
  23. I have always thought that TP looked "worst" in flat urban area. The buildings don't look real good of course- whereas I believe that TP is at its best in mountaneous areas. And I usually fly with TP during daylight hours. But I have discovered that TP at Dawn is quite good in urban areas - it gives quite a good feel and any unclearness of the urban textures is less noticeable. Unfortunately, there are no lights apart from those used in speciifc sceneries ( ie no autogen lighting) - I just pretend that it is dawn and the street lighting has just gone out :-) Try it - you might like it(Near Long Beach, CA - using Service 3, 1 M res) http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/191855.jpg
  24. Like I commonly do, I follow links to various things that are highlighted in the AVSIM front page - have done so for years and have discovered some really good websites and other things.Today there is a short note about the successful use of a couple of Milton Shupe's aircraft in FSx/SP2. I don't have SP2 installed (for a number of reasons), but I kind of automatically followed the link to FSNorthwest. COM Only to be met by a webpage that merely says "REGISTER HERE" -- A Flight Simulator Community for Western North AmericaNorthern California * Oregon * Washington * Idaho * British Columbia * Alaska * Montana * WyominI don't know how others feel about such a thing but I, for one, wont be registering and giving my email address to them. I think they need to read some tutorials on creating websites that will attract custom - that is if they want any - perhaps it is really merely just a closed shop, only for "those in the know" ?Barry
