  1. Northwest operates DC-9-10, -30, and -50 series planes. The used to operate 8 MD80s, but have since retired them.MD80s are stretched and upgraded DC-9s. Avionics were upgrades, newer, more powerful versions of the JT8D engine were fitted, the tail was enlarged, and the wing span increased by about 15 feet. The MD81, MD82, MD83, and MD88 all share the same fuselage length but varry by engine thrust and maximum takeoff weight. There was such a range of options and changes over the years that in some cases the only way to tell them apart is to look at the airworthiness certificate or the manufacture plate in the plane. MD87s feature the wings, tail, and engines of the other MD80s with a fuselage that is similar (but not identical) in length to the DC-9-50. The MD87 featured an extra 1 ft extension to the top of the vertical stabilizer and the squared off tail cone. The new tail cone has been fitted to all models of MD80 built after the MD87 was introduced as well. The MD90 is 5 ft longer than the main MD80s and uses the taller tail from the MD87. This version also uses IAE v2500 engines inplace of the DC-9 and MD80's JT8Ds.Boeing 717s (aka the MD95) is an upgraded DC-9-34. It features the tail from the MD87 and a fuselage that is 4ft longer than the DC-9-30. It also features a futher upgrade in avionics and flight controls, with a 6 panel glass cockpit. The 717 uses BR715 engines and, in the case of the newer production versions, lacks the eyebrown windows used on early 717s and all previous DC-9/MD80/MD90 variants.
  2. I managed to load it into FS2002 without much problem.
  3. I have been onboard or have witnessed 727s, 717s, DC9s, and MD80s pushing themselves back from the gate using thrust reversers. I have even seen pictures of a 757 engaged in such a manouver. Given that thrust reversers are often capable of handling 40% power or more, it's not that hard to believe that they can push themselves backwards. It is, however, not a good practice on aircraft with engines below the wings, since it creates a very high likelyhood of foreign object damage. While on most aircraft it is pretty much suicidal to engage thrust reversers in flight, some aircraft actually are capable of safely engaging thrust reversers in flight as a means of slowing down, such as the DC-8 and IL62.
  4. There is one in progress by Daniel Maqour. He has posted screen shots over at the Project ERJ forum which can be found at: http://www.fsnordic.net/discussion/index.php?board=1
  5. Well, my test pilot (a former ASA E120 pilot) will appreciate the thanks. All I did was make it fly like he told me it should fly. :)
  6. Thanks for the plug John. With over 30,000 downloads from the Project ERJ site since the release of the EMB-120s, I am pretty sure that quite a few people know about them. (All those download's can't be ERJs right? :))So, I've gotta ask, which one's your favorite. I spend most of my E120 time flying the old three stripe United Express.
  7. I usually set up all my flight plans so that waypoint one is the departure runway, that way, even without the A/P on I pass over it and the GPS registers and selects the next waypoint, which is usually 6 miles straight ahead. In all the flights I have made using Bill's panel, it's never failed to register a waypoint or start making a 180 after takeoff, unless that's what the flight plan called for.
  8. As far as I know, it can't be done, at least, I've never had reason to try.
  9. According to my DC-9-80 maintenance manual, DC-9-80s (MD80s) do have a strobe in the back of the wing with the white position light.

FSDSv2, although, why you would be heart broken is beyond me. FSDSv2 aircraft should be compatable, as they use the same file format as GMax MDLs, and according to Microsoft, planes from FS2000 and later will work in the upcoming Century of Flight.

At the [a href=http://avsim.com/hjg/]Historic Jetliners Group[/a] site for starters. Jim C has also release a repaint or two at avsim's file library.
  12. Jim C did a few repaints and uploaded them to the Avsim library. And, of course, the ones painted at HJG can be found at http://avsim.com/hjg/
  13. First, make sure you have the version 2.1 update (if using FS2002). Second, make sure you have it trimed for takeoff (somewhere in the green zone on the panel). Acceleration should be smooth and crisp, not a rocket mind you, but not a pig either. Head over to the ERJ forum for more help, since, well, Bill and I check that one much more often.
  14. I haven't decided how I will package them. However, if I do "cluster" them in this release as in previous, you can delete the unwanted liveries simly by deleting the appropriate texture folder and the related entry in the aircraft.cfg file. In the end combining multiple repaints into one package saves overall hard drive space by eliminating duplicate MDL files and such.
  15. If you noticed, the posts with the grosly oversized pics were made by other people, not me and are painted on the older FSDSv1 built v1 and v2 models for FS2000 and FS2002 respectivly. The new gmax models do not have the cockpit because of an export error in MakeMDL that I was unable to resolve by means other than eliminating the two dummy pilots.
  16. Andrew, ERJ-145XRs are the longest ranged ERJ-145s in production. They are easily distinguised from the Standard/EU/ER/EP/LR/LU/MK/MP versions because they have winglets and an elarged and repositioned fuselage skid on the belly. Currently only Continental Express flys them.I just poted previews of the Continental Express ERJ-145XR at the FSNordic forum.ERJ-145XR PREVIEWS (March 05, 2003)
  17. Well, when I can get some pictures and a tail number (I don't think they have any delivered yet) I might try painting one up.
  18. Sorry, but no. That, to me, looks tacky and half-hearted without an interior cabin, and I have no interest in building one.
  19. Howdy all,Well, work is progressing smoothly on my soon to be released version 3 gmax build ERJ series. I had posted a bunch of screenshots in the screenshot forum before it was closed, but I have added some more pics to the previews over at the ERJ forum at FSNoridc for all to enjoy and am posting links to the different photo shoots. Not sure of when they will be released, since I have yet to finish the ERJ-145XR model and still have the Legacy to paint as well. I am also waiting for Sam Chin to finish flight dynamics updates for each of the versions.Airlines include: Air France, American Eagle, bmi regional, bmi "star alliance", and Continental Express[link:www.fsnordic.net/discussion/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=8786|ERJ-140 PREVIEWS (Feb 24, 2003)]Airlines include: American Eagle and American Connection[link:www.fsnordic.net/discussion/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=8937|ERJ-145 PREVIEWS Set 1 (Feb 28, 2003)]Airlines include: American Eagle, American Connection, Continental Express, Crossair, America West Express (500th ERJ), America West Express, Swiss International Air Lines, Trans States Airlines, and Trans World Express[link:www.fsnordic.net/discussion/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=9064]ERJ-145 PREVIEWS Set 2 plus a -135 (Mar 03, 2003)Airlines include:ERJ-135: Delta Connection (2002)ERJ-145: Air France, bmi "star alliance", Delta Connection (2002), Delta Connection (1997), KLM exel, LOT Polish, Luxair, Team Lufthansa (Cirrus), Team Lufthansa (Rheintalflug), United Express, and US Airways Express

  23. >Also, the plane that comes with the panel... strobes and >position lights are big and blurry... not so on the Mike >Stone plane. Any fix for that? Yeah, download the FS2002 versions, available at the avsim file library. A search for my name (Nick Botamer) should produce them. I released 4 sets, and others have repainted my models as well.
