  1. i have not posted in a LONG time but I thought I should post on this one. I believe this problem is with ATI cards in FS9. The ground textures are nice and sharp around a small radius and then you can actually tell where the blurring beings. I have not found a fix for this but this does not take away from my FS experince because I do not look outside the aircraft to much. The best thing I can recommend is to have the lastest drivers from ATI (6.8). Use drivercleaner to remove all the stuff left over from the old ati drivers (www.driverheaven.net). Get the display drivers only from ATI and use ATI tray tools for tweaking. Kill any background process you do not need. You can find information all over the internet on tweaking windows xp for performance. I get alittle annoyed with blurries but I can tell you with the FSX demo I did not see any.
  2. It seems as though when it rains here people think that means you are suppose to drive FASTER. If you really need coffee you will be glad to know there is a Starbucks on almost every corner LOL I would really love to see a Megascene Atlanta. I am surpise it has not been done yet.
  3. Ken, The reason it's proboly not working right is because directx support in wine is still a bit limited, atleast to my knowledge. The other factor could be that it's not loading the correct dlls for it to run. There are alot comments to wine that you have to configure yourself (iam sure you already know this). Iam sure that FS could run under wine but it would proboly be fairly limited. The other thing to consider before diving to deep is would other programs like AS2004 or RC3. I wanted to experment awhile back with running simcharts and widefs under wine. I might try that again.
  4. I would like a KATL that is not a FPS killeronly because it's my hometown right now but that is selfish :). I think some of the smaller airports could be done. All the major hubs seem to have been done in some fashion. I think for the south I would have to say KMEM for the North KPIT for the midwest KDAL or may salt lake intl and fianlly for the west coast KSAT
  5. I had this problem and it ended up being a AFCAD file for one of the simflyer airports (kmco). I would move all of your addons out of your FS directory and also delete the files in Documents and SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftFS9. This is a hidden directory so you will have to tell XP to view hidden directories by clicking on tools.. folder options.. view and then click "show hidden files and folders" when you open a folder or click "my computer" . It's proboly best to start FS in it's default state on the first but and then add your addons.
  6. I have the same motherboard as you except mine is the just a A7N8X-X and not the deluxe. If you do not have the lastest nforce drivers (3.13) I highly suggest get them as they solve alot of problems. Also I might suggest that you get the lastest bios. There was a recent bios update for the deluxe model of the A7N8X deluxe. If your ram is corsair make sure that your motherboard ram settings are correct for that ram. For example I have to set my ram voltage to 2.7 for corsair ram and by default it's 2.5 . My games would crash if i did not set my ram voltage to 2.7. This is the settings I got directly of the corsair website. I hope some of this helps with your FS problems
  7. Since you have GF4 ti 4200 you might want to consider bringing down the cloud density to medium. The GF4 ti4200 was never fast card to being with. I had and like you I always had problems with anything the resembled clouds. It did not matter if it was FS or not. The Gf4 is also a directx 8. I would say that yes the GF 4 needs to be retired . Mine is in my closet :). To get a good performing card for FS does not mean you have to get a Radeon 9800 XT and spend $500.00. You can get a nvida geforce FX 5900 for around $250.00. It is not a fast but also the benchmark scores between the Radeon 9800 and GF5900 are not enough for me to want to go and spend another 200 dollars. The radeon 9600 is a good choice but for just a little bit more you can get a GF FX5900. I have a GF 5800 and it is 100% fast card than my old 4200. I do not run my clouds at 100% though . I run main at about 70 with a site distance of 100miles in As2004 . The performance is great for me. My resolution is set to 1152x864 on my 19 inch Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 930SB.AA is 2X and AF is set to 4X . Good luck
  8. yes that did it. I knew it was something simple.
  9. Here you go . I was tring a small area of atlanta out since I know what it should look like. The "." should be fine since Iam just doing all the work from the directory of the folder I created for this .It's always worked that way for me {Destination}LOD = 10DestDir = "."DestBaseName = "atl"UseSourceDimensions = 1{Source}Type = Elevs16LSBSourceDir = "."SourceFile = "atl.BIL"Lat = 34.18458333398812Lon = -84.74263888766828NumOfCellsPerLine = 2086NumOfLines = 3153CellXdimensionDeg = 0.00027777777780CellYdimensionDeg = 0.00027777777780ScaleinMeters = 1.0
  10. still does not work. I have no clue what it could be "." should be fine. That's what I have always used :/ . I tried your suggestion and still got the samething
  11. holger Thanks for the link. The only problem is now when i go to build the mesh I get a error. I have tried everything to rid of it but Iam sure it's something simple. The error is {Destination} DestDir= "." Missing required Parameter If you need to post the rest of the inf I can do that but it's a copy of what was on the above link. Except that all of directories are point to the root directory of the inf :) "." If you have any other advice on mesh I will give it a shot. Iam new at this but Iam willing to learn :) . I mostly want to work with NED. I do not know anything about microdem . I have played with it but did not understand it too much.
  12. thanks for the response. I thought the batch file might have been the problem but it's not. When i try to build my mesh it just keeps acting like it's building and never stops. I deleted my ini file because i just got so fed up :) . What are the proper lines for the ini file. I must have missed something . The mesh type iam using is NED from seamless.usgs.gov . Thanks in advance for any help
  13. I had a batch file someone sent me awhile back but I deleted by accident. I thought I had made a new one correctly but when I go to make the mesh resample just keeps spitting out numbers and never finishing the mesh. Iam sure it's something really simple that I over looked. I wondering if someone could post a sameple of a batch file they use or just point me to site that would have to look at :) Thanks in advance
  14. I use corsair ram and have had no problems. The one thing you must know with Corsair ram is that it is designed to run at certain BIOS settings and you need to know that the BIOS on you new motherboard is going to allow the settings needed in order for the ram to operate right. If you are getting a ASUS this should not even be a problem . Corsair also has a great forum and the CS is top notch. Before you purchase the ram I would go the corsair site and see what ram is recommened for you motherboard. I got the CMX 512 pt because that was one of the sticks of ram recommned to work well with the Nforce 2 chip set. Here is the link and if you motherboard is not listed just get on the ramguy forum and ask. The usually respond with in the hour if it is still in normal buisness hours. http://www.corsairmicro.com/corsair/memory_guides.html click on the asus.pdf . It says for your board to get 1 twinx1024-3700 :)good luck
  15. I would go to driverheaven.net and download drivecleaner, also redownload the lastest ati drivers. Go to add and remove programs and uninstall you ati drivers and reboot in safe mode. Run driver clean and chose to remove ati drivers and Nvidia drivers. Driveclean removes left over files the uninstall does not remove this way you will have a fresh install of new drivers always. Reboot and reinstall your ati drivers reboot again. Next thing to do is turn off v-sync and get the refresh rate of your montior to decent level. For 1024x768 85 is proboly good enough. I run mine at 1152x864@ 120mhz. Iam not sure how ati unlocks the refresh rates in d3d the lastest nvidia drivers will do it from control panel now. I think if you do all this you will see alot of improvments. I have the same setup as you except i use a A7N8X-X. Do you have the lastest Nforce drivers and the lastest Asus bios 1007? Richard
