  1. Ok, I just reinstalled FSUIPC and after reviewing the ini file, I still do not see a removeATC= statement. Would somebody please confirm that there is a removeATC= statement in the ini file and if you would please tell me what section it can be found under. I am attempting to learn the PMDG MD-11 and the outsude air temperature is a requirement of loading the MCDU.ThanksTom
  2. I can not get ATIS to function. I can see and hear the default FS9 ATC without any problems, but ATIS remains silent and will not display its famous green line of airport data. I recently install and uninstall RC4. I thought that I may have created my problem there. I posted my question in the RC4 Forum and JD posted a possible solution stating that I may need to change a line in the FSUIPC ini file. He solution was:"as long as fs9's controller option are set, if the volume is set right, you should hear atis. is the radio dialed into the right frequency?look in the fsuipc.ini file, in the \modules directory.look for a line that says removeATC. is it there? does it say removeATC=YES? if so, try changing YES to NOyou'll have to restart fs9 after all these suggestions."Opening and reviewing the FSUIPC ini file I did not find a removeATC statement. My questions are what menu items in FS9 drive ATIS? What menu items drive ATIS if FSUIPC? Note: I do have a legal abd registered copy of FSUIPC.ThanksTom
  3. I have no idea why I waited so long to purchase this product. I did make a small number of errors on the first flight, but all correctable while either in flight or through saved segments of the flight. My most costly error was on final approach. On takeoff you load a number of custom VOR, ILS and NDB names and later after flying the SID you return to the MCDU NAV RAD page and clear them. I missed clearing the ILS/CRS entry. On final approach the aircraft could not load the final ILS setting because I had failed to clear the earlier setting. So I just waved to the gathering crowd below as a flew over the Zurich Airport at 4000 ft. Went back a studied the tutorial and figured out my mistake and on my second attempt I had a perfect landing.Overall a great tutorial that provides a large amount of detail to the overall experience of the model. I will most likely fly the beginner tutorial at least once more before taking on the advance version of the tutorial. To the writers and editors of the tutorial - thank you, nice job.Tom
  4. Thank you both for your help. What I was seeing while using the tutorial 1 was that during the climb phase, after reaching the speed restrictions of the first phase of the TO, my aircraft was climbing but my speed remained the same. If I was between 240/250 kts I think it would have not have been a problem, I would expect to stay in that spped range untile 10,000 ft. But then I reached 10,000 ft and I expected, after having already activated the Auto Fight Mode for the second time, to see an increase in the aircraft speed to match the FMC. After pushing the FMS SPD button everything appeared to have matched up.So what I thing I need to do when I fly the tutorial for the second time is to either activate the FMS SPD Command or increase my speed by selecting a new speed level manually at the time that I press the Auto Flight button for the second time. This would be an additional step in the take-off section found on page 22 of the tutorial.Tom
  5. Ok, I just purchased the MD-11 and I am working my way through the first tutorial. My question is when do you activate the FMS SPD button that is located on the FCP. After reading and searching the tutorial I found no refereance to when it is approriate activate that button.ThanksTom
  6. Thanks JD!Your hint that "you'll have to restart fs9 after all these suggestions" was most likely the cause of my error.ThanksTom
  7. How to you restore the default FS9 ATIS? For the past couple of flights I have been using RC4, so I disabled ATIS. I am currently learning a new flight model and I would like to restore ATIS until I am comfortable with the new package. I did restore the ATC option of FS9, check all three boxes, and I did restore the ATC sound options. But as of right now I have neither sound or the display available to me in FS9.ThanksTom

Set your AI to 80% (still easy on framerates) and try a flight that takes you either into or near a hub.Tom
  9. Hey Jon, thanks for such an excellant answer.Tom
  10. Thank you for both your answer and recommendation. I have looked at purchasing this model since it came on to the market. I have even pulled down its manuals to read and to study. That model looks like a handfull to learn and to fully enjoy. If I had a good way to copy/print the manuals, at a reasonable cost, to follow along during the aircraft operation I would most likely make the purchase. At this time, the manuals are the only thing holding me back.Tom
  11. Thank you. What triggered my question was today I was undertaking a flight from KJFK to HECA and somewhere over the North Atlantic I notice that the tempeture of the fuel was a -31. One of the other models that I fly, the 727-100/200 has fuel heaters and was interested in what the 747 does, since it is capiable of flying at a higher altitude and in a much colder environment.Tom
  12. Are the fuel heaters model in the 747? In the manual it states a problem could/would/should occur if the temp of the fuel reached a -37. Is there a switch model to turn on/off the fuel heaters? I was unable to locate the switch.ThanksTom
  13. Does the MD-11 for FS9, saved and retore flights similar to the &$&-400/F? That is, if I establish and fly a flight plan that will take 3-5 hours am I able to save the flight to disk, exit the sim, return to the sim and pick-up where I left off? The PMGD 747 allowed this action, their 737 did not. This makes a huge differance to me in purchasing the aircraft. I attempted to find the answer by searching the forum, but for some reason I was unable to reveiw an answer and come back to the search list.ThanksTom
  14. theack777,Yes I intended to say takeoff. When I looked at the total number of posts associated with your user ID I thought maybe that you were new to FS9 and were confusing the two packages.Tom
  15. I have both the Ifly product and the Vroute and both are now working without issue. I wonder if the original poster is confussing the Ifly FMC with the default FS9 aircraft package. When you load the Boeing FMC with a "company" route you still need to set up other parameters such as Perf Init, N1 Limits, Tackoff Ref, etc.Tom
  16. I was also unable to find a really great model of EDDM, but then I found the Aerosoft software package. Yes it's payware, but I feel well worth the investment.Tom
  17. Thank you. I'll take a look at them this evening.Tom
  18. Jim,Thanks. I have the payware version of Fly Tampa KBOS. I also have their KBUF, KMDW and KSEA packages. I previously had the freeware KBOS and liked it alot, but when I reloaded FS9 on to my computer I elected to make the KBOS purchase. I recently began to "tour" Europe and would like to find some good freeware scenery for that region of the world. Although any ideas on scenery packages as good as KPHL or KJFK are welcomed.ThanksTom
  19. Geoff,Thanks, but I've already been there. What I'm looking for is what the user community feels is the top of the line for FS9. KPHL is as good as most payware. What else is out there in that class?Tom
  20. Recently I added the freeware KPHL and KJFK scenery packages. Both of them are great. I have also had the 9 Dragons package for a while. I am now interested in locating any other freeware scenery packages that are as good those listed. Any recommendations?Tom
  21. I don't believe that is totally fair to compare a mature product to a recently relaces piece of software. The PMDG product has been on the market now for over four years, whereas the iFly is just now coming up on 90 days. Go back at look at various flight sim forums and search the PMDG, Level-D, Dreamfleet, Eaglesoft, Wilco, etc products and examine their early learning curves. All new highly advance software products go through the same learning curves for both the developers and the end users. Its just part of the products life cycle. Before blasting a product, see if the develpers are listening to the end users comments and if they are willing to make the needed corrections. What I have seen in most product lines is that the software developers listen and respond to their customers. Lets wait and give iFly the chance to release SP2. So far they have been very responsive.Tom
  22. Try this link:http://www.simroutes.com/fb2/showplans.aspxSimroute is a common flight sim route planner. Just be sure to check the route for errors. Almost any type of aircraft can be planned using their tool.Tom
  23. To both of you, thank you for the chart information.Tom
  24. A couple of questions. Has FS Commander 9 been released? When I look at the Aerosoft site it shows a 22 November release date. Simmarket makes it appears as though it has been released. Also, if it has been released, has anybody tried it in a Windows 7 64 bit environment?I have never really been interested in the product, but I beginning to fly more flights in Europe and I am having a hard time finding charts for many of the major airports. What I have read about FS Commander it could solve by SIDS and Srars issues. I can find almost all the charts that I need for American airports but I don't have a good source for Europe. I have tried and have used the VATSIM PRC but as a resourse it apears to either to have a few holes or I am looking in the wrong areas. In an example, could somebody point me to a source for an approach into LFPG landing on 27L?ThanksTom
  25. The Level-D Forum has a link to resolving most of their software issues with W7 64 bit. Checkout their site. Also, I recently had a issue that was not addressed in their forum. My problem was with the reordering of security & folder permissions. Checkout the site for answers.Tom
