I have had fsx+acceleration installed for over a year on my pc. Recently on long haul flights I get the "your trial period is over please register flight sim now" pop up. Clicking the message crashes the sim. Any ideas what is causing this?

I think i will abort the raid idea and just transfer as much as I can onto another ssd and add the appropiate links. Have to use pot luck and see what works and what doesn't as I know from experience some programs require to be installed on the same drive as FSX.

Don't really need FSX to improve as my system runs it perfectly. Just need more room on the drive as running out of space and as FSX is Installed on the C: drive on an SSD and wanted to stay with SSD's so a Raid set up would seem an obvious choice. By the way this PC is solely dedicated to FSX.

I have only 20GB left on my 500GB SSd on which FSX is on. I have 30 GB left on a second SSD 250GB which contains scenery and other files which don't mind not being on the main C: Drive. I have two last gen 250GB REAL SSD's from Crucial and would like to know how to go about creating a "raid 0 " using these two drives and then transfeering FSX onto them to create not only more space but a faster Read. P8P67-M PRO (LGA1155) 33 °C Graphics DELL3007WFPHC (2560x1600@60Hz) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 Hard Drives 238GB C300-CTFDDAC256MAG ATA Device (SSD) 477GB M4-CT512M4SSD2 ATA Device (SSD) Optical Drives Optiarc DVD RW AD-7261S ATA Device Audio Creative X-Fi Audio Processor (WDM) Never done this before so a step by step plan would benefit! Everything has been backed up by the way.

When I use the tool and direct it to my fsx.cfg file I get the error message:- Your request could NOT be processed. Reason: There was a problem reading your configuration file. There was a problem reading your configuration file. There was a problem reading your configuration file.

Just finished reading the "A Beginner's guide Flight Simulation" article in the latest issue of PC Pilot and it mentions that the root installation of fsx should not be placed in the default ProgramFilesx86 folder as it causes issues, but "directly into the C: drive.Well I have just completed a full re-install of FSX + add-ons (nearly a week's work) so what do you think? Just move everything into another folder outside of the default? Will this work? Is it really necessary?

I get the attched error message when starting FSX. I ave tried in vain to find out what it refers to but the number does not match either the scenery cfg file or the add on scenery within the sim.

I did indeed install the shader mod 3 but was not not aware I had to recompile the shaders?Please explain how to do this?

Just continuing with my re-install of flight sim and thought I would have a quick fly.Found this strange problem affecting military and helicopters in the sim.Anyone know the cause or how to rectify it? Have tried a repair to the sim which did not work!Help please I don't want to start again from the beginning

The reason I want to keep using my.current install of FSX is not because of how long the build will take but how very long it takes to install FSX and tweaks plus all the add ons of aircraft and scenery plus the restarts etc.My current install fills nearly 400 GB of hard drive space!There are three of us whom use FSX in the house and to be without it for days would be torture.It will also be an opportunity to install everything "properly" for instance putting all downloaded freeware aircraft in a separate folder and major scenery installs onto a separate drive etc.I was under the impression that FSX can be installed and used without activation for a certain time period but many commercially bought add ons need serial numbers email address verification or actual activation within the sim and it is these that I was enquiring about with regard to being installed on two machines at the same time.

I am about to commence a new "sandybridge" build.However I wish to continue to use my current PC and FSX while I put it together.Can I install all the purchased addons both boxed and downloaded from various publishers onto my new build while they are atill installed -and being used-on my current gaming PC?TITLE EDITED BY ADMIN

I am planning a Sandybridge build next month and have a question about SSD's.I currently have Windows7 and some of the major stuff by Earth Simulations, GEX, Active Sky, Meaga Scenery, Flight 1 etc on a Crucial C300 SSD attached to a 6GB controller and fsx on another C300 also attched to sata 6.I have managed to buy another C300 (off a mate) and as my install of fsx currently only has 19GB of free space left and the C drive 39.5GB I was planning on either running two C300 in Raid 0 on a marvell controller (on a new B3 Sandybridge Board) and the C drive on the intel controller, or just both C300 with fsx split between the two with the large scenery add ons etc on one and the rest on the other.As I have never gone down the RAID route before I would like some advice.Also with all this talk of achi being better for ssd's does anyone have any direct experience of this as I would need to sort that out before the Win7 64 bit install apparently.I do hope this all makes some sense!

I totally agree.I (as is commonly advised) have FSX installed on another drive to the C: Drive and unfortunately a lot of FSX installs data onto the C: drive as does a lot of Add On's so if you do add on a lot of further stuff you have to take multiple copies or images from various ocassions, simply taking an image of the FSX drive is not enough you have to do the same for the C: drive at the same time period and these multiple images end up taking up a lot of Disk Space.I have filled up two Terrabytes with various images as I never know when something will affect my fsx installation and then installing an image I have to re-install the add ons not included at that time.All in all it is a rght pain, why fsx cannot install everything onto the same drive you put it on then when you re-installing windows it would not affect the sim, that would be ideal.I have tried backing up the cfg and scenery files anything with fsx in the title on a c: drive and then transferring them to a fresh windows install with no success.In the end I usually just bite the bullet and do a clean istall of system and fsx and all the add-ons which takes days!!!!!Then the backing up starts again!!!!

Firstly thanks for all the really interesting replies to my original posting.I have a "fiendish plan" which I am hoping will work. This is........I am going to install my old copy of Windows XP + service pack 3 onto a new SSD drive and then FSX onto another SSD drive (complete install with all addons etc). When I wish to use FSX I shall boot into the Windows XP Harddrive thereby keeping everything else of the drives except FSX.I know of a couple of dual boot programs which could help with this.So no more problems with having to reinstall windows and fsx as there will be no other programs or games to cause any conflicts with FSX.When I wish to play any other games or use different programs I can boot into my Win7 64 bit installation on the main drive.Will this work or will there be a problem as windows has to be on a C: Drive and you cannot have two drives both labelled as C:Does this make any sense?

My dilema is this.....I have a perfectly functioning copy of FSX on a drive with numerous add-ons and tweaked to perfection.I need to do a fresh install of Windows 7 64 bit onto the C Drive.FSX will not run as the essential registry entries and other folders which FSX and many add-ons install onto the C Drive as default will be missing!As I have a copy of my C Drive will it be possible to just copy over the FSX entries from it onto the new copy of Windows and thereby get FSX to run again or do I have to do a new install of FSX and all the add-ons and tweaks and if so what is the point of backing up?Does this make any sense?

After constantly being advised to "backup" I eventually backed up both my C drive and the drive FSX was on with all my add ons and settings and tweaks as it was all running perfectly with excellent framerates.However I needed to re-install windows as I was having a few problems only to find that by doing so FSX will not run as so much of the sim and certain addons including things like the cfg and scenery files resided on the C Drive and so by installing Windows fresh meant no more FSX.So what is the point of "backing everything up" when you actually need to completely re-install everything (and all the days that takes) if you reinstall windows?Am I right or is there a work around?

Eaxctly!I have countless add ons both aircraft and scenery and most of these have some entry on the C Drive.My conundrum is tht I am getting a few "blue screens" which seem to be because of troublesome drivers of program installs {3D Mark 11 being one)and was contemplating a fresh install of Windows, but even though I have both drives fully backed up I can't utilise the C Drive back up as this would bring me back to where I was prior to the fresh install wouldn't it?So hours of re-installing FSX and all the add ons and tweaking etc seems to be my Christmas present to myself!

I have back ups of both my C Drive which has Windows 7 64 bit installed and my H drive which has FSX installed on.What I would like to know is if I need to re-install Windows will FSX still work as I am aware that no matter what drive you put it on FSX installs essential files onto the C Drive by default!So do I need to back up certain files on the C drive attaining to FSX and then copy them over onto the fresh install of Win 7?Otherwise what is the point of backing up your FSX installation if you have to once again full install everything following a fresh Windows installation?

vSync Fix applied to your configuration! (Make sure you set your driver to Application controlled so the option is NOT forced but applied by FSX itself) it will work now.I have vSync set to "force on" in the nVidia panel as I use nHancer.Does the above suggestion mean I should now change this to "Use the 3D Application Setting?"

Hi GarryBI am currently using Windows 7 64 bit and would appreciate the link to the special utility to "Repair the Scenery.Cfg" you mention in your reply.Yes if I add scenery manually within FSX it shows up also if I copy across a specific scenery from a saved Scenery.cfg file it also shows up in the sim.I have tried copying an entire saved Scenery.cfg into the Scenery.cfg folder but get an error when trying to save it (something about file formats), I was going to attempt to just delete the Scenery.cfg in the Program Data file (after making a copy) and then adding a saved Scenery.cfg and renaming it from "Scenery.cfg before installing...." and then deleting the scenery.cfg folder in FSX and letting it re-compile it and seeing whether that worked???But I would like to try your suggestion of the repair utility first.

On firing up fsx today I have run into a serious problem.All my add on scenery has disappeared from the settings scenery library and so FSX itself.Upon checking in the "Scenery.cfg file" in C:Program Data/Microsoft/FSX everything is still there as are all the files in the main FSX folders.Anyone have any ideas how to resolve this situation?

Recently my fsx starts with a "Tower View" is there a way to get back to starting with the default "spot View?"

Well perhaps you will agree that FSX is heavily CPU based and I am using this as a basis for my assumption that a new very expensive very very hot very very very power hungry card such as this is not going to make FSX suddenly double it's framerates. I still stand by my assumption that every reviewer has stated that the card is not a "must have" purchase in it's current state and that a revision will make it more so.I have used NVIDIA cards since FS2004 and always found them to be better with Flight Sim than ATI but no longer. I urge anyone looking to upgrade now to go for the Saphire Vapor 5870 for the Ultimate FSX Experience. Low power requirements, cooler running and fantastic graphics!!

I have all sliders on ful.l AI at 95% AA x4 and AF x16 picture is perfect no tearing or shimmering and the clouds and water are just brilliant using ASA with REX.Cannot praise this card enough.With regard to the Nvidia 480 read the reviews and you will see that all agree that an "upgrade" now is not a good idea for lots of reasons and the next gen will bring many improvements, it certainly will not improve anything for FSX as it is!
