  1. Well not as good as yours!Basically Asus P8Z68-V Pro, i5 2500k, GTX 570, 8mb of 1600mhz Ram, Corsair 850 psu, liquid cooling, 1tb Hd and other bits in a Coolermaster case running W 7 64bit.I'll do a proper sig if it all works out! Chris
  2. I looked at 4 or 5 sites but found the best range of components to suit me on Cyberpower UK. I checked them out and they seem to be well established with a decent reputation. We'll find out the hard way in a couple of weeks!Prices were very similar across the sites I checked. CheersChris
  3. Well I've had an interesting shop around. I identified my ideal setup then compared custom built with components only. In the end for around £1000 layout the build added just another £100. For peace of mind and a warranty I think it is worth the extra. I'll do the overclocking myself as recommended. Thanks for all the advice - I'll report back when it arrives.CheersChris
  4. Ok. I'm a bit tempted to build it myself then. It'll make a good project to teach myself how! Do most components come with the required cabling etc?Is there a good online guide to building your own?I'll be guided by this forum as to what to buy and I think I can do any overclocking. Before I commit I'll work out the cost saving to be made by diy.CheersChris
  5. HiAfter browsing this forum and others I'm think I'm ready to specify my new FSX pc. I've been through a few over the years and I know nothing is future-proof but this one will have to last a long time! There are a number of online UK companies offering a custom build approach with similar prices. Can anyone recommend a good reliable outfit from personal experience?CheersChris
  6. Hi, yes I have got set FSX at Unlimited fps but I've discovered another clue - If I have it running ok after a 2nd restart as described above, then shut FSX down and run Ken Salter's Alacrity to remove background ops, it does it again - back to 15 fps. But, of course, yet another restart of FPS Limiter makes it work again.I know what to do now but just wondered if there was an obvious reason for this odd behaviour...CheersChris
  7. HiI use 2 monitors and, as advised here, I have set the FPS Limiter frame rate at 2x that required - so 60 to get 30 fps.But it seemed to work intermittently - some times ok and sometimes starting at 15 fps i.e. half the default 30 fps. Even if I have set 50 or 70 fps as the (2x) target it is still 15 fps.I've experimented and, from a fresh windows boot, it does the 15 fps trick which is annoying. But if I close FSX and run FPS limiter again it works ok.Any ideas as to why this is?CheersChrisE6600, 8800 GTS - latest drivers, Vista 32bit
  8. Well, I've discovered the reason I cannot start the engine - but it doesn't make a lot of sense.I had slightly "de-tuned" the engine to match the hp of the C150's I flew (100hp v 110 hp for the 152)i.e I set the thrust_scalar at 0.91 not 1.0As I said - it flies impeccably and bang on the numbers with this mod. However the engine turns from cold but won't fire!Set it back to 1.0 - no problem.Any gurus out there understand this one?CheersChris
  9. Can I add to the praise? 20 years ago I gained my PPL on C150s. Although I've not now flown for quite a while the Carenado brings back those memories brilliantly. The look and feel, sound and performance match my memory really well. I've already re-flown quite a few of my log book flights around the North of England from my local field Sherburn in Elmet (EGCJ). Mind you, Gerry Winskill's UK cooling towers and masts are as useful in FSX as the real things are to VFR navigation! (Avsim library - UK_ANO_FSX)I have one problem - if I shut down after a flight - I cannot restart the engine. Electrics, fuel, throttle, mixture all set correctly - but it won't fire!Must be me - any ideas anyone?Chris
  10. This works fine in Vista.I have general sound through Audigy card and speakers, and atc through ordinary headphones plugged into on-board sound card jack. This is controlled within FSX sound options - Sound to Audigy and Voice to on-board.Vista 32 is not a problem.CheersChris
  11. Hello again HerveWell, PMDG aren't daft. We can definitely add more sections in FSX. I've only tried adding one but the effect was quite clear - I cloned my Drag settings to flaps.4 and nearly fell out of the sky!I don't know how many can be used but I shall now try another 2 as I originally planned all that time ago CheersChris
  12. Hi,Yes, I ran into this at that time and posted on the Avhistory site. The DH Comet4 I was working on has two sets of flaps with different position settings and I wanted to set the lift and drag parameters separately as well as controlling the physical movements. In the end I had to combine the 2 sets of flaps lift and drag calculations.I'll test extra sections tonight in FSX and let you know.Chris
  13. HiWhere did you find it? - I'd like to give it a go!Chris
  14. HiNow that FSX can separate the atc voice channel from the other sounds again (like FS9)I've tried to take advantage of this.I've set up the voice channel to use my onboard Realtek sound device using headphones, while directing the remaining sounds through my SB Audigy card to the speaker set up.It does work initially and is a great way to fly! But after a short time e.g. 10 mins or so, the frame rates grind to virtually a halt - 1 or 2 FPS.This only happens with this configurationAs a non tecchie I presume this is the two cards conflicting. Is there any clever trick I can pull to get around this problem? Are others having the same problem?CheersChris
  15. Great news!Is it possible for the program to look for other SimObjects sub-folders apart from Airplanes?I keep my AI in several separate folders (WOAI, UT, PAI etc)CheersChris
  16. Well it's cured.I rolled back to a recent fsx.cfg I had saved and the effect disappeared.I've had a good look at the two files and I can't spot the guilty line - but I'll look again today.I did check all settings Holger but it is possible I missed that one! I can check that again too.Anyway, back to flyingCheersChris
  17. Specs similar to yoursDual core e6600 4mb ram 8800GTSI've been experimenting to get rid of blurries but I cannot spot any key change immediately prior to this strange effect occurring. I suspect a corrupted file somewhere but not sure how to find out.CheersChris
  18. Hi, can anyone shed light on this one?Suddenly all my taxi and vehicle marking lines have turned very brightin daylightOn close inspection there seems to be an additional solid white line under both these textures on all airports. I can see the normal yellow centre taxi line on top of and slightly narrower than this new white marking. The only change I've made recently is the installation of FEX - which shouldn't change this!Other than that I run most sliders halfway and have a good dual core pc with plenty of ram.Any ideas?Chris
  19. Thanks for the reply Jim,Problem solved though. I un-installed and re-installed and it works fine - so we'll never know what was wrong!Great productCheersChris
  20. Hi,When I start ASX/FSX the weather loads as expected. However it then slowly drifts back to the FSX setting and while ASX appears to download at intervals the actual weather does not change and I end up at 1013 and zero wind.Do I need as specific setting in FSX? Or is something wrong?ThanksChris
  21. I like to run my weather on a laptop via WideFSBut the laptop only has the Windows 2000 OSIs there any way to run Activesky X on the laptop with this OS?As I said - I suspect not but thought I'd ask?CheersChris

  23. Hi,If it helps, the relevant code is here:(A:Airspeed mach, mach)Definitely does not deliver the same result as in FS9Something is differentChris
  24. HiI'm happily using David Maltby's fine Comet 4 in FSX. All the xml gauges but one work flawlessly. However the Mach gauge reads high - not accurately as it does in FS9.I've tried other of DM's Mach gauges (e.g. his VC 10)but with the same result. Is the mach speed output data different in FSX from FS9?Glad of any helpCheersChris
  25. Hi AllHere is a solutionI spotted this on a similar topic (ctd in fog)In your fsx.cfg file go to:aircraft_reflections=1and change it to =0I don't know why - but it solved the disappearing panel in fog for meSee if it works for you!Chris
