  1. Well, apparently it's an easy fix and I found the solution. If anyone else is having this problem, simply make sure that PanelAsTexture = 1, not 0 in your FS9.cfg file. Problem solved.
  2. Need help here. I already searched the forums and could not find a solution. When I upload a flight in FS2004 and then view the 2d panel, it seems stable as long as the red text in the upper right corner is displayed which says "COCKPIT". As soon as that text disappears, the 2d panel begins to flicker. If I go to windowed mode, the flickering stops, but my 2d panel is about 50% transparent. Back to fullscreen mode and the flicker starts again. I can't figure this out! Everything else looks great - 3d cockpit, other views, etc. It's only on the 2d panel does this happen. Any suggestions?
  3. If you have the time and money, you should spend a weekend or two and go to your local FBO (fixed base operator) and take a few flying lessons. Nothing too serious, if you don't want to pursue a complete pilot license. But a few flights in your local airport's traffic pattern and talking to ATC would greatly enhance your knowledge of the aviation community, and then VATSIM would be a lot easier to understand, especially if you did it in real life.Just a thought...
  4. Oh. Well, the problem with the link is that it includes the period and the exclamation mark. I can fix the link in my signature, but it won't let me edit the post. The link is www.myspace.com/zmanisfireproof
  5. Hello Everyone. My name is Stephen, and some of you may know me from some screenshots that I have posted in the past on this website. However, other than that, many of you don't know much about me. I am a recent college grad and newly commissioned Air Force 2nd Lieutenant. I was lucky enough to snag a pilot slot and I am currently at Laughlin AFB in Del Rio, TX and will soon begin pilot training this Wednesday, Oct 1. So, to document this milestone in my life, I've decided to blog a journal on the day to day activities that I will be involved with while going through pilot training. There are many reasons to why I am doing this, but I thought that maybe for those out there who are curious as to what real life pilot training is like, or who may be interested in pursuing a career as a pilot for the Air Force, but never knew where to get started or what it was like, my blog could be some sort of guide. Thus, I am inviting all who are interested to come check out my blog as I will be leaving updates on it weekly, and sometimes daily as time permits. Feel free to subscribe to it so you can always stay informed. My blog is located on my Myspace page at www.myspace.com/zmanisfireproof. Also, feel free to leave comments, suggestions, questions, or, if you have any, advice ('cause God knows, I sure could use some!). Anyways, just thought some of you would be interested in this 'resource' and insight into what Air Force pilot training is really like. I look forward to hearing from some of you soon.Lt Stephen Zimmerman
  6. Well, I don't know really. I didn't really change any settings. Basically, with the new nVidia drivers 163 and above, game profiles that come with the driver cannot be changed, even by nHancer. So, in order to get FS2004 to have decent AA within the game, you have to duplicate it's profile from nVidia's one within nHancer. This disables nVidia's faulty profile (AA will not work in FS2004 with default nVidia settings) and allow you to set FS2004's duplicated nHancer profile to your liking.Well, all I did was go into nHancer and delete the duplicated profile I had originally made for FS2004 and create a new one. I didn't change the settings from one to the other - I just deleted it, then remade it. And somehow, this worked.Hope this explanation isn't too confusing...
  7. Guys, I think I figured it out! Thanks so much for all of your suggestions and input. I have nHancer, a utility to 'help' nVidia get along with Vista for the most part, and it seems that after messing around with it and doing some tweaking, I have finally got FS2004 back up and running like she use to. Ah, it sure is nice to finally fly through some massive cloud coverage and have my computer not even flinch. Thanks again everyone for your suggestions. It made me start thinking and tinkering some more and I've solved the problem. Later.
  8. Doesn't work. I have the most current Nvidia driver, but, it doesn't matter. And FS2004 itselfs runs flawlessly - without clouds, the game is extremely smooth and sharp. It just acts up when the clouds are loaded. And, all of my other games work fine. Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't believe it's a video driver issue...
  9. I recently re-installed FS2004 like I've done several times before. I loaded the game up and everything worked great - until ActiveSky loaded the weather. Man, as soon as my clouds loaded up, my game came to a screeching stop. This is a simulation, not a powerpoint presentation!I've tried everything known to man from replacing the cumulus01 texture file with a reduced sized one to reconfiguring the FS9.cfg file and nothing works. I've never had this problem before, and, concerning my system, I shouldn't be having it now. System is as follows:Alienware Area-51 7500Processor: Intel
  10. Thanks Pastorpilot and David! Let's hope this works...
  11. Crap. I found this shader water fix and was so excited that I immediately downloaded it and deleted my Terrain folder contents and replaced my water shader file without backing up the original. I know, I know, I'm an idiot. But after testing FSX to see the results and seeing that my oceans and rivers look like Geofa's pictures, I'm screwed. I have Accel/SP2 and no backups. Help? What do I do besides re-installing Accel?
  12. This topic has been moved by the moderator of this forum. It can be found at:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...&topic_id=29466
  13. Yeah, I have a similar system and my FS9 framerates are always at 40 FPS, which is what I have it set to in the display options.
  14. Well, it seems I have fixed the problem. All I did was delete a folder in my Temp folder and viola - problem solved. Weird...
  15. How do I do that? As far as I know, I've always been the administrator on my computer. I didn't have a problem the first time I installed ASV6.
  16. When I tried to open ASV6.5, it gave me an error. So I uninstalled it and tried reinstalling it. But my reinstall suddenly quits and the 'Internal Error 2755' pops up and I'm left with no ASV6.5! Anyone know how I can fix this so I can start flying with great weather again?
  17. Make sure that the AA option within FS9's 'Display' settings is NOT checked. Then try it with the 'enhance in game aa' unchecked in Nhancer as well, and see if that works.
  18. Yes, and yes.You can go to the nhancer website for more info.http://www.nhancer.com/
  19. Like Trelane, I am unwilling to uninstall Nhancer just to get screenshots. However, I do happen to have a screenshot of FS9 I took when I first began this hobby and did not realize what AA was or even how to apply it! So, here is a shot of what the game looks like WITHOUT proper Anti-Aliasing settings:Before - notice the jaggy edges, especially noticeable on the top line of the airplane body, and in the taxiway sign: http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/176309.jpgAnd here is a more recent shot with my 8800 card and Nhancer settings applied - notice how much smoother the lines are - straight as an arrow!:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/176310.jpgHope these help to show what FS9 looks like with or without AA properly applied.
  20. With Nvidia cards (8800 series, in my case), FS9 would not render AA at all. Nhancer fixes this by eliminating Nvidia's profile for FS9 which did not include an option to allow AA, and allowing you to create a new profile that will.
  21. I wanted to build my own system, but I was too scared and ignorant of putting in a water coolant system myself. So, I bought an Alienware instead. :D
  22. I'm sorry to hear that you can't fly for real. I realize that a lot of people have always dreamed to fly commercially, but can't because of physical or some other limitations. And for that reason, I hope I never take the fulfillment of my dream for granted.
  23. Hey thanks! I'm really excited about it, for obvious reasons! I will get paid to fly for the Air Force!!! Yay! And they pay for all my training. People have their opinions, but I think going the military route to become a pilot is a lot better deal than doing it yourself via the civilian way. Unless, of course, you're just stinkin' rich...
  24. $6000?!? I got my "real world" private pilot license for $4500!!!
