  1. The X45 has no 'dents' now i wanna buy the x52 lol...
  2. >The scenery around the top end is pretty good compared to the>rest of Australia which is pretty flat and the textures are,>in the words of another poster on this thread, 'bland and>boring'. Based on the screenshots we've seen so far I'd say>this will not be the case in FSX.>>I got the FS Global '05 mesh which made a huge difference.>Suddenly the FS world looked so lifelike you could recognise>familiar geographic features. FS Global is a 76 m terrain>mesh, but the screenshots suggest that FSX will have a much>higher resolution. I did a search through the FSX forum here>at Avsim. I don't think anything definitive has been said on>the subject of terrain mesh yet, it looks like the guys on the>development team don't want to give too much away so early in>the game.>>Good luck with RTW.>>Mike.Thanks Mike, I would say that with the whole SRTM Shuttle data being made available completely since FS2004 was launched that we will have at least 76m resolution.. This is speculation on my part though and I don't want to assume anything unless it is officially said through the great guys at MSFT...I agree with the whole increased mesh resolution... I've been using FS Genesis and it's amazing, especially the 19m mesh in Monument Valley, The Grand Canyon and Hawaii... :)If you look at FSInsider you will see an article and presentation on the new terrain engine and modelling. It's amazing stuff. From what I've seen it looks like it might eventually lead to something a few people have been interested in seeing in FS, but word on the blogs is that 'not likely, but we have ideas'...It's amazing though how many bugs I've been finding in FS2004 though as I am prepping for RTW... So far I've found some runway elevation/terrain issues, blank landclass :S and a few other things...Anyway, this RTW trip is looking better and better. Does anyone know if someone has created the big radio telescope in Puerto Rico for FS?
  3. I hear ya on KLAS, I live here... In 3 years we've had only 3 dustings of snow, and that was stuff that basically melted before it hit the ground... What's more that's highly unusual... The other christmas though it did stick, and the city looked very pretty. That can probably be resolved though when a MegaCity Las Vegas comes out...As for the Time Zone bug, word is the team is aware of the issue, but no fix this time around, from what I understand it's because of a lack of good source data?... We can always use the bug fixes that have been posted before, hpopefully they'll run native still in FSX...
  4. I disagree... It can render real time flowing hair, fabrics, fluid motion (no more pre-animated water)...Sorry but modelling physics will make a paradigm shift happen in games and simulators.
  5. yeah that section will be tokyo, across the water to vladivostock, (personal reasons), then kamchatka to the alluetians...on my return jauunt I'll bounce around the pacific islands...I'll start posting my flightplan details once I have them coded...
  6. Cool, we'll see what the future brings, it's funny how dreams of a kid nearly 20 years ago are fast becoming reality...In as far as the physics engine, once the laws of physics are coded (which are constant), games will be able to utilize the features without having to simulate physics models...I'd say eventually we'll see chemistry engines as well, possibly in 10-20 years atomic modelling hardware too...
  7. hey i noticed in FS2004 after checking out the ice runway in antarctica that there seems to be some weird cloud distortion when you are that close to the south pole... Any word on if the new earth/terrain engine will resolve that issue? It would be cool if one day rivers could freeze over, as some of the ice runways were in the middle of the ocean in antarctica during summer... didn't check it in winter as it was too dark :(Anyway just curious, not that big of an issue, just some things I've noticed in FS2004 that I never picked up on before...Sorry I'm asking a million questions lately, I have to say, the ACES team sure has sparked my imagination and inspiration, it's just like discovering flight again for the first time with FSX... :)
  8. Here's what the physics render card does... It is hardware that runs alongside your videocard that provides for physics simulation....This is something that will take the load off the CPU and GPU and allow for real time 3d rendering of physics effects on the fly instead of having to create pre-rendered animations... This will have a huge impact on the film industry too, no longer will we have to wait for 'render farms' for 3d animations (well we always likely will, but this will make it more real time)...It provides a hardware solution to creating the dynamics of the real world, like the way objects interact with one another etc... It's kinda like a hardware card that will simulate both the laws of physics and possibly eventually chemistry...If you look at the following link it will explain what this hardware card will do... If you look on the right at the power gaming triangle it will help bring a simple understanding of the way the card works...http://www.ageia.com/physx/what_is_physx.htmlCPU (Central Processing Unit) = Think and ConcentrateGPU (Graphics Processing Unit aka videocard) = Render and DisplayPPU (Physics Processor Unit)= Move and InteractIn future the PPU would take the workload off both the CPU and GPU which would mean less coding needed for FS due to not having to code a physics api as these aspects will eventually be handled by a PPU. This would mean the code could in theory be trimmed and more power being available for the sim's display and simulation engine...What is Physics for Gaming? http://www.ageia.com/physx/faqs.html#3What is a Physics Processor? http://www.ageia.com/physx/faqs.html#3It will be available for sale through http://usa.asus.com/products2.aspx?l1=2&l2=100 <- note at the time of posting the link does not appear to be working... It can be found via http://usa.asus.com/products1.aspx?l1=2The link seems to be down tonight. I found this info from a clickthrough at some website, I think it was an FS centric website too...I had always thought hardware that could render both physics and chemistry would be a wonderful tool... Imagine an FS world where liquid is actually modelled as real liquid in a physics engine :) Imagine the possibilities :D
  9. >"I hope I'm not making an erroneous assumption based on the pic>tho...">>...you are. :)>Hey Jason, I'm curious now... The pics in the link at fsinsider.com show two tugs which I am assuming to be the same base MDL...http://fsinsider.com/product/FSX_06.htmAre you sure my assumption is off? lol... The reflection in each truck window is relative to the position of the camera/aircraft point of view...You have me scratching my head now :( :-lolI'm getting curiouser and curiouser...lol or should I have phrased it as 'some form of reflection modelling'Reason I ask is also based on...http://fsinsider.com/product/FSX_Missions_09.htmhttp://fsinsider.com/product/FSX_02.htmhttp://fsinsider.com/product/FSX_Hawaii_1.htmReflection on water of aircraft carrier and mountains in water...
  10. pixelpoke, tdragger anyone? I want to make sure i don't bug ya about stuff that's old FS stuff... ;) :-wave
  11. lol I didn't want to copy and paste the quote :(sorry for the apparent misquote :( roflol...you know what I mean :Dwait you mean I don't get an aerobridge for my new Cessna? hehehe
  12. that's software... we're talking hardware :-wave cheers :)
  13. >"I'm not making an erroneous assumption based on the pic>tho...">>...you are. :)>>Cheers,>>Jasonbummer... oh well still looks great :)... must have an awesome art director or something ;)
  14. Hey, umm, might have been me, was over at the other major fs site though at the time, was probably 1-2 years ago... got as far as phuket, but work got busy due to a promotion...I do like the KingAir due to seeing it in Jurassic Park 3 last week (unless it was a 200) anyway... It has the speed, thing is most flights are only 1-2 hours in duration due to the aircraft's performance... I think it might be perfect for the task and still slow enough to grab screenshots of some of the spectacular sites...Oh, I'm curious about whether the FS2004 flightplans will import okay into FSX... This is something I am assuming it will due to adventures etc from previous versions always being allowed to imported and automatically upgraded to the new version...
  15. http://fsinsider.com/product/X_press_kit.htmhttp://fsinsider.com/product/FSX_fact_sheet.htm:) Happy reading...Oh nice... I love the part about "connected world", you can choose to be an air traffic controller, captain or first officer in your online flights, with headset and keyboard :-jumpyI also just noticed, and I'm not sure if anyone else noticed but we can see reflections of the world in the airport service vehicles :) Finally true reflection modelling... Hope I'm not making an erroneous assumption based on the pic tho...Oh even better, it says 24,000 airports will have AI controlled jetways and airport vehicles... Is this true? Every airport has animated stuff? :-jumpy
  16. Just saw this new video card http://www.ageia.com/physx/Looks like if this thing takes off future versions of FS will be even more amazing ;)It actually hardware renders stuff like hair, bone animations, cloth etc...:D:D:D
  17. Hey Guys,I've been planning out my around the world trip for FSX and have come to find a couple of bugs in FS2004 and am wondering if it's worth making a note of them or if with the new data sources for FSX not to worry about it...As I was prepping for the trip in the FS2004 flight planner, I found that:1 - Tuxpan in Mexico seems to be located several hundred miles south east of Tepic, when it should be north north west about 60 miles...2 - Just outside of Lake Tahoe I discovered a big landclass hole, not sure if it shows in other people's systems and I'll try and replicate the problem tonight, but it seemed that about 4 cells of data were missing in a big "T" shape where only grey terrain mesh showed...I'm just wondering if these things have been noted before, and if it's even worth giving a heads up on some old FS2004 bugs that creep into future versions if the data comes from the same source...Also, I have a couple of other questions, and am wondering if the 'sunken runway pothole' syndrome at a few airports in FS has been resolved, I can understand if this is something that can't be answered right away due to NDA's and the like etc...Thanks in advance...
  18. >Jason Hi,>>thanks for clearing that up, I think I can speak for a lot of>the anti-mission people when I say our fear was really seeing>FS beginning to 'feel' like an XBOX arcade game. With consoles>taking over everywhere and even your parent company MS pouring>millions into the launch and hoped for success of the XB360>you surely could see where we were coming from.>>Hopefully your post will help to alleviate this fear, and>thanks again for that. It's much appreciated.>>Looking forward to FSX.Hey John, can I write as a 'friend' here... Spending our lives making our decisions based in fear or having our beliefs based in fears really is no way to live...Having been in the FS community for over 25 years now, I think it's safe to say that the 'target audience' for the sim is what will dictate to the executives at Microsoft what course they choose with a product like FS that the ACES team creates... I really wouldn't worry about fearing it will become XBox centric... Here's why...MSFT and ACES has been making a concerted effort on this version of FS to listen to what the community desires and even they are participating openly in forums like these. I really don't think any of us in the greater FS community would accept a port to XBox, and this has been proven by some polls recently conducted. No business would want to lose their user base by alienating anyone and this is something Microsoft would never do... FS has been around since long before Windows became widely available, and it is from what I understand one of their flagship products...So really I wouldn't worry about it, or live life based in fears of what might happen, it's not making anyone happy by being so focused on something that is only a fear... Relax, sit back, enjoy the moment, there are many other important things in life to worry about... I remember someone once said to me 'don't sweat the small stuff.' ;)Hang Loose Brah...Dean
  19. Okay, I am already planning my first around the world flight for FSX and I'm wondering if I can get some votes on which default (known) aircraft I should take up on this epic journey...She needs to be able to reach around 30,000' altitude and be a prop or turbo prop, can get in and out of short fields and also have a max range of around 1000 miles... 800 miles minimum...So far I'm considering the Beechcraft KingAir, but my first effort was attempted in the Mooney Bravo... These are my two choices so far, I'm not sure if I should consider any of the new aircraft available in FSX such as the Maule or Grumman Goose...At this point the King Air looks like the winner. Having the twin engines, plus it's excellent STOL ability, good rate of climb and it's ability to fly reasonably fast but also low and slow make it the winner so far, but the Mooney still holds my interest, although the flight would be much slower, and I'd hate to have an engine failure over water somewhere along the way, especially from Johnston Atoll to Honolulu...I'm open to suggestions though as I am planning out this trip...
  20. >I'll have a look around Australia first because this is where>I live. Then I'll make my way to London, and save the juicy>entry into the US for after that. I expect the US will>probably look better than elsewhere on the planet, but I love>flying around America anyway. It's such an interesting>landscape.>>Mike.Hey Mike, I can recommend a good flight for you. I did it in my inital around the world attempt in FS2004, try Cairns to Weipa, then Weipa to Port Moresby, then Port Moresby to Mount Hagen, and finally Mount Hagen to the flats before jumping across to Ambon Indonesia... Make sure you have real world weather enabled... ;) Best flight I've had in FS so far...Oh BTW I used the FSGenesis mesh which was awesome for the flight through Australia and South East Asia...I am still in the process of compiling my flight plans for my FSX around the world effort...
  21. lol what's the point in asking about something that's covered by an NDA at the moment? lol
  22. In the past we've usually had to wait for a little while for our favorite addons to be updated to the new version, but this time we are expecting the SDK's early so we may have some stuff ready to go when FSX launches... Anyway onto the real part of this thread...What do you plan to do in FSX to tide you over when you first get it?My plans are to fly around the world using the default aircraft and scenery... I have the flight plan in development and will use the new 'share flight' pictures and info that is in FSX... (according to tdragger)...Anyone else got ideas on how to make effective use of the new sim until your favorite addon becomes compatible?
  23. Imagine doing an extraction from Baghdad or something...Simulations like failures that are created in real simulators will be one thing that will help real world pilots with their recurrent training...Gosh, I sure have missed the old cropdusting missions from FS4...Hmm, wondering if the old 'high tension powerline' nearby tree trimming in france from a helo will ever be created lol...Or how about the guy they rescued from Black Mountain in Las Vegas today with a police helicopter? The mission based elements will also allow us to do real flight school training... The flight school in FS has been great to date, but I did miss doing stalls and incipient spins, steep turns, FLWOP, etc etc etc... All stuff that wasn't really possible until now...I agree with one of the developers blogs slogan idea, "FSX: Something to do"Oh man imagine effecting a rescue of a downed airman floating in the ocean, having to do a search pattern and everything... :)There are endless possibilities... :)
