  1. if you want to just straight copy your FS9 folder over it will work... I've done it numerous times.
  2. >How about some missions fighting forest fires. With some of>the flame and smoke effects I have seen in the videos of FSX>seems this might be possible. What would be cool is huge fires>with lots of smoke that really interfere with visability etc.>It would be even better if we could actually drop water or>retardant that would interact with the flames. (perhaps a pipe>dream, but who knows) >Brew, I'm hoping to see this too... ;) I'm sure it won't be too long before someone does it... ;)Dean
  3. Kooljet, yes flashing light effects are possible, I have done it in my own experiments but these were only used on aircraft for a short period of time as a trial and they are very few and far between now, as they have reverted to steady lights when they have gone back into maintenance... Hence I didn't bother to finish making it perfect for release...As for FSX, i think it will be the most revolutionary version of FS ever created... I started with pre FS2.0.. There are so many changes from what I've heard about for FSX that it will be amazing...I'm wondering if the ships will be moving and landable like in CFS2 this time... With all the shots of ships I wonder if it's a hint...Is it just me but don't the ground textures and autogen look a lot more detailed this time around, plus all the detail with roads and rivers etc from screenshot comparisons...I agree with the OP... I've been around FS for a long time... Moving wildlife as seen in videos is something I had been working on as a 3rd party dev in FS2004, thankfully I don't have to spend time on that now as ACES have already done it...And the new 737 and caravan look amazing...I'm most looking forward to missions, I think they're going to open up a whole new world of addons...To be honest FSX looks like the dreams of an FS2 user come true... 20+ years later...
  4. I rarely buy addons for FS that I know will not likely work with the next version, or unless it's something i really really want... I'd rather save money up for new hardware for the next version of FS.
  5. Wow talk about hyper critical... I think I'll wait till FSX is released before I come to any conclusions... From what I've read on the blogs and seen posted around FSX is a major improvement over FS9...I wonder why flight simmers are so judgemental about stuff so early.... :(
  6. DX10 = bump mapping and better performance than DX9...What you won't get in DX9 is bump mapping, better than DX9 frame rates, and a few more things. There is a good article around about DX10 and I've seen pics (of other proggies) with motion blur, basic 3D mesh models with extra detail extruded through the use of bump maps and much more...http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1982034,00.aspHope the above artcile helps
  7. think about real formed clouds, ocean water that builds real time waves, metal that bends and breaks, trees that get sheared off if you crash, objects that interact in real ways instead of having pre-rendered stuff...Imagine having water that splashes as per real water when you touch down a float plane, ojects that bounce off one another and act with real world physics...Clouds that swirl with the effect of airflow over a wing. Massive cloud fronts that form not based on textures alone, but on physics particle modelling...It will be like taking the 2D FS world into a 3D immersive environment....Imagine water that you can go under, interact with etc etc... I don't expect it for FS10, maybe I do hope for a partial implementation in FS11 and a more full implementation in FS12.In the future I look forwards to Chemistry cards and atomic modelling cards... I know it will happen in my lifetime.
  8. Mac are also predominant in the Film and TV realm and have always had the lead on that market...My next computer will be a Mac, I'm just waiting for the DX10 compatible cards to come out for them...As for Windows on the Mac Platform.... There are 3 different versions...a) bootcamp, XP runs Native on the intel processor at full power:( parallel, allows Windows XP to run in a windowc) crossover mac, will allow windows apps to run under OSX without the need for windowsPeople prove themselves uninformed when they dis mac without having a clue what is possible with it... They don't bother to look at macrumors.com or thinksecret.com or apple.com. They speak from bias only...I am both a Mac and PC user as I work in film and tv. For years I've been on the PC solely for FS use, now I can run FS on Mac hardware I no longer need two machines...Final Cut Pro HD is what I need for my work, now I can also fly FS in the Mac platform I am a happy camper...
  9. Why FS2000 pro? FS2002 pro was awesome!
  10. If you buy the Quicktime Pro key for $30, you can splice them together as easy as cut and paste and export...
  11. Is Amazon correct in their assertations? I thought MSFT ditched the two tier FS versions as of FS2004?
  12. nope the original ASD was for FS4 and was the MSFT Aircraft and Scenery Designer...
  13. >Hi,>>you mean an other thread in this forum? on another site?>>We have a saying in Greek - "great spirits will eventually>meet" (doesn't translate too well in English but you get the>idea) :-))))))))>>regards,>>Spiros Hazapis>Athens, GreeceI think it was another site... Problem is I can't remember where it was lol...
  14. >Hi,>>I have an idea too on this subject:>>Maybe a function can be implemented that will allow for a>"follow me" car to appear when requested by the pilot and>guide you to the holding point of the runway you are cleared>to. Consider the following:>>1. Being guided by a follow me car is very close to real life>operations. It is a lot more realistic than the "pink line" (I>wish this existed in real life though - although I have seen>some pretty clever systems installed in airports like LFPG and>EDDM)>>2. The coding to allow for this should already be in the sim.>This would merely be a type of AI traffic confined to the>airport. AI traffic already has the capacity to taxi to and>from runway holding points and modeling some to look like cars>instead of airplanes should be a rather simple task.>>What do you think?>>Regards,>>Spiros Hazapis>Athens, Greece Spiros, that's freaky man, it's almost word for word the same as what I posted somewhere else... Scary
  15. lol what was worse Travis was when the file would corrupt on load, sometimes would take 3 hours to get it to work...lol and people whine about FS... if they *only* knew what us old timers went through....As for FSTitanic.zip I believe that has already been done, but I might be tempted to convert a higher resolution mesh :(As for submarine travel, ACES ;), start thinking Physx based hydrography and finding some source data from the US Navy for underwater terrain mapping ;)Sorry I'm being a punk :( lol I know you are focused on 'flight' sim... but the world is already modelled, why not open it up to a wider audience? :-)Don't take me too seriously but it is an idea...
  16. I remember using SEE and ASD for FS4, lol pilot controlled lighting etc...
  17. I sure hope they haven't dropped the extra 1000 airports, used to be 24,000.... :(
  18. Hey as long as they have an open souce GMAX community, bring it on, would love to port some of those ships to FS... :DEDIT: Just looked at the master video, and it gave me some new ideas, thanks for the link...I still miss my Arnie Armchair's America's Cup race for the Commodore 64, only took 1 hour to load from tape back in the day lol...
  19. hehehe I just re-installed FS98 and FS2000 on my system after a crash... runs nicely lol...anyway that's off topic...
  20. >>Let the FIFA go, and show us something from FSX :( More>>important :D>>Speak for yourself! Watching Croatia v. Japan now. US was>robbed in it's match with Italy yesterday. Anyway, I'll be>back when it's over...>>;)lol go for it Mike, and happy father's day by the way :)Hope you and everyone else at the ACES team had a great weekend and had the rest and attention you all deserve...
  21. >And I think it is a small product even compared with many>other Microsoft Games products (things like the Halo series).lol I don't know anyone who has Halo, but hundreds who have FS... FS still flies off the shelves from what I see when I'm in the store...Even though word is tha CFS3 wasn't that great, (I don't know, didn't try it), when I went looking for it the other day I couldn't find it in any store by one...I have many friends who use FS who aren't in the forums hanging out... That reminds me I should send him one of my extra copies of FS...Last I knew he was still flying FS98...
  22. I still scratch my head every time I hear someone talking about the imminent demise of the FS franchise... I fail to understand where these rumors come from...?
  23. >An Italian fighter by Lago (AMX ?) includes an air to air>refueling mission - work perfectly - if you are a good enough>pilot.>>Very easy to setup and run almost anywhere.>>There are also AI folks who are making air to air refueling>simulations happen in flight. Really cool!!!>>We don't need FSX for this - it's already here.Wow stuff's really been happening on the AI front, guess I should pop into the forums more often :(
