stereoscopic 3D in P3D (questions)
Using USB tethering is the way to go IMO. It allows you to use much better image quality whilst reducing latency. Andy

stereoscopic 3D in P3D (questions)
Hi Richard, I'm surprised you get little feedback, it is an excellent utility! Many thanks for v2.1. I have indeed got TrackIR working fine with normal 2D on my monitor. I have F9 set as the pause for TrackIR and also P3D Native 3D now. I'll give it all a go later... Andy

stereoscopic 3D in P3D (questions)
Hi Richard, I'm extremely grateful for your excellent P3D Native 3D. I'm currently using v2 with P3D V3.1, a Samsung Galaxy S6, Homido headset and Trinus VR to send the images on the monitor to my phone via USB tether. I was wondering if I could ask for your help please? I can't get head tracking to work and I'm not sure why. I'm not even sure which part or parts are the issue! You may have a completely different setup tho, so I understand if you can't help, but if you do have something similar any advice would be very welcome... I have TrackIR set as my method of head tracking in Trinus VR. I have TrackIR installed on my PC (works fine with my actual TrackIR hardware) and on by default. I have head tracking off in P3Dnative3D until I have by SBS 3D setup and running OK in P3D. Only then do I switch the head tracking off... but no joy. Any ideas? Many thanks Andy

stereoscopic 3D in P3D (questions)
Further to my last post, a chap by the name of Richard Barry is developing a tool called P3DNative3D. It allows SBS 3D. This means SBS can be transmitted to a phone, such as the Samsung S6, and viewed in 3D using a 3rd party headset. I haven't tried it yet, but when I do I'll post my results here. In the meantime here is Richard's tool: https://youtu.be/QUUlSeFaJl8

stereoscopic 3D in P3D (questions)
I'm a dedicated P3D user (v2.5 at present) and stopped flying FSX long ago. However I miss nVidia 3D Vision, which I used in FSX all the time. I'm looking forward to Oculus Rift, but I'm impatient and there are no noises coming from either LM or nVidia regarding a fix for nVidia 3D Vision.... I now have a Samsung S6 phone, with a 1440 x 2560 resolution screen. This could be used with the new Gear VR headset, but to the best of my knowledge it only works with apps on the phone, not streamed from a PC. Instead I've bought a 3rd party VR headset designed for a range of different smart phones: http://www.amazon.com/Andoer-Universal-Virtual-Reality-Smartphone/dp/B00PC0YB1C I'm am currently attempting to use Trinus VR for both tracking (3 DOF only, but I've thought using my TrackIR for the remaining 3 DOF might be a good solution?!) and for sending the PC rendered image to the phone screen: http://trinusvr.com/ Others have so far managed to do this OK, but only using Fake 3D. https://youtu.be/z7ZT2WixoSM An earlier post mentioned nVidia permitted SBS 3D with Prepar3D. Is this confirmed??? If so, I might be able to transmit the true 3D as SBS to my phone and thus have a working VR headset with the resolution close to that of the forthcoming consumer version of OC (apparently). I would give this a go now, but I'm away from my PC a while. Andy

nVidia 760, 770 or 780 GTX for FSX?
Airtrooper replied to Airtrooper's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcI'm buildings a new rig with an Asus Z87-PRO mobo, 8GB Vengeance RAM (might buy more to double it to 16Gb) and an i7-4770K CPU. I'm also buying a Corsair Hydro Series H80i Extreme (with back-to-back fans sandwiching the radiator) with the intent of overclocking from the stock 3.5GHz to more than 4 GHz.

nVidia 760, 770 or 780 GTX for FSX?
I'm starting out on a rebuild of my rig. I have most of the components sorted, bar the GPU. I want to buy a new nVidia 700 series GPU but unsure of the optimum one for FSX? 760, 770 or 780? I fly with either ORBX or payware photoscenery and always use either A) 30" 2,560 x 1,600 monitor; or B) nVidia 3D Vision with a 120 Mhz monitor and 3D classes In the future I plan on buying an Oculus Rift instead. Any opinions?

Is there a fix for AI traffic sounds being very quiet and all the same?
This really seemed to do the trick, especially volume wise but also in terms of aircraft-specific sounds. Many thanks indeed! Are there methods (perhaps in the cfg or wav files) to increase the volumes (both relative and absolute) still further? For instance, my AI Vulcan now taxis with a nice sound and volume, but actually gets quieter when it throttles up for takeoff! I'd like to reverse this. Thanks againAndy

Is there a fix for AI traffic sounds being very quiet and all the same?
I'm flying FSX Acceleration. My AI traffic are very quiet. Unless I have my sound sliders turned all the way up they appear to be silent. All my jets use the same generic (737?) sounds which are barely audible and make simple whine and swish sounds, nothing more. This even applies to default aircraft such as the F-18, which appears to have bespoke AI sounds. I've tried copying soundai folders and soundai.cfg to the directory for the aircraft I'm interested in, but it doesn't change anything. For instance, I have AI Vulcans and have copied the sounds from the IRIS Vulcan (renaming the folder and cfg files to add "ai") but it doesn't work. The same is true for AI Hunters and Dave Garwood's Hunter sounds (FGA9).Does anyone know where I'm going wrong, or know of a fix for generic, quiet AI sounds?I've seen some posts where the AI seems to be silent and people have fixed it by reinstalling FSX... which I really want to avoid!I'm also running Traffic X by Just Flight. Many thanks in advanceAndy

Anyone here visiting the USAF Museum in Ohio?
Hi,I'm trying to find anyone who will be visiting the USAF Museum in Dayton, Ohio (or lives locally) and would be willing to take a few photos and measurements of a bit of kit on my behalf for a scenery project (not Wright-Patterson AFB) I'm working on please? I live thousands of miles away and although I've visited there once I'm unlikely to again for many years! Many thanks in advanceAndy

HELP: Instruments not funtioning
I've considered using Repair, before resorting to a Reinstall. However, hopefully neither will be required as things are looking more like normal.Since my last post I found that a restart of my PC solved the roll/bank issue and the use of the popular FPS_Limiter has helped reduce stutters (although the are still worse than when all this started).I was concerned that the sudden problem with a large BufferPools might be related to some of my RAM becoming faulty, but using Vista's own memory checker no problems were found. Is there anything else I can do in this regard? So, now I'm left wondering how large or small should my BufferPools be? Show I just abandon it? If I remove it should I re-run Bojote's Tweaking and Tuning Tool?

HELP: Instruments not funtioning
No Yes! I've had it set at 512,000,000 (i.e. 512Mb) for a long time now, with no problems. However, I just reduced it to 200,000,000 and restarted FSX and I now have gauges working in the VC again! This is great news! However, WHY does this work? Also, why wasn't this an issue before? Is it something recent to do with my hardware (RAM?) or software? Finally, I seem to have two side-effects (so far). One is I now have severe stutters, like never before. The other is I can deflect the yoke all the way to left or right (my joystick moves and the joke also moves in the VC) but the aircraft refuses to roll/bank... Any ideas??Many thanks indeed

HELP: Instruments not funtioning
I tried the 2D panel and the instruments are working fine, both on the ground and in flight. However, when cycling through to the VC the instruments are still frozen :( I used the 2D panel to do a full startup of the Cessna 172 and then saved this as the default flight. When closing and restarting FSX this flight loads properly with everything ON and running. However, the problem isn't solved; 2D panel fine, VC instruments frozen! :( I can't believe I'm the first to have this problem?! I read somewhere that using F9 might help, but no joy. I've been trying to think of any recent changes I've made. The only thing I can think of so far (and I'm pretty sure this was before the problems started) was I stopped using nHancer in favour of nVidia's own Inspector (I have a GTX285 2Gb with driver 260.99) and Bojote's Tweaking and Tuning Tool...PLEASE HELP ME! :(

HELP: Instruments not funtioning
I really need some help to stop me going mad regarding a deceptively simple problem...My instruments are "frozen" in FSX... they won't budge. This includes attitude indicator (artificial horizon), altimeter, vertical speed indicator (VSI) turn-and-slip and other instruments. Normally when something like this has happened I find it is because I've started some aircraft or other "cold and dark" but forgotten to do something. In this case the instruments don't work even with power ON (master switch ON), engines ON, lights ON, pitot heat ON and avionics master switch ON. The attitude indicator is "frozen" level (i.e. horizontal), which makes me think power/avionics are indeed on, but it just won't budge. This happens with all of the FSX default aircraft and a lot of others too. However, some aircraft are OK, for instance Nemeth EC-135, Aerosoft Beaver, IRIS Vulcan.I've tried creating and saving a new Default Flight with default aircraft (I'm sticking to the Cessna 172 Skyhawk for now) with all switches and engine ON, and restarting FSX... but no joy. I've also tried having the fully functioning Aerosoft Beaver as Default Flight, then switching to the C172, but again no joy.I'm hoping there is a simple fix... or else reinstall beckons! Many thanks in advance

FSX Executable listed in nHancer
Many thanks Tom, I think you've answered my question. But here is a follow up question... This all came about because I tried to fix something which probably wasn't broken in the first place. Doh! :( In my efforts to tweek FSX I went into nHancer. I suddenly realised I had an FSX profile which had FSX.exe as the executable AND an FSX duplicate profile which also had FSX.exe as the executable. nHancer flagged this by turning the profiles red. I saw no problems with my FSX FPS or image quality, but this still struck me as something wrong which needed to be put right... am I correct??? :( I then went and deleted the FSX.exe from my non-modified nHancer profile and changed it to manual activation. Now I see a very noticable drop in my FPS. :( Any ideas? I'm now gonna go back and set it as it was and see if my FPS is restored...Many thanksAndy

FSX Executable listed in nHancer
I'm running nHancer 2.5.7 and the 182.50 drivers on my nVidia 285 GTX 2Gb.I'm also running FPS Limiter, which I love. Therefore I run FSX using the new *.bat file I created for the FPS Limiter. In nHancer there is a window entitled "Executables". For my FSX profile this currently reads simply FSX.exe. Should I change this to the same *.bat files I use to start FSX with the FPS Limiter???Many thanksAndy

Upgrade driver for GTX 285 2Gb
I've just installed my new Palit GTX 285 2Gb and thought I'd check what new nVidia drivers are out there. I've been using 182.50 with my old 9800 GTX+ 512Mb for a while. Before I take the plunge and update to 186.18 I need to ask... is it worth it??? Is there a performance gain or loss? I'm running Vista 64-bit. Any and all experiences and opinions gratefully received...

Best 1Gb or more nVidia GPU for LARGE screens?
Airtrooper replied to Airtrooper's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcOK, still procrastinating here! :(I'm set on 2Gb on a 285 GTX.I've seriously looked at the Palit 285 GTX 2Gb. It also has two cooling fans. Is it essentially the same as the Gainward, or is it a different beast? I can't get the Gainward here.Since I last posted EVGA has brought out the 285 GTX 2Gb, SC and FTW. Does anyone have any opinions on these in comparison to the Gainward and Palit 2Gb? The EVGAs have the standard 1 fan and they have compromised on the spec (even with the base model) when making the jump to 2Gb, which surprised me as the others don't. If it wasn't for the compromises on the spec I reckon I would've bought the FTW right away!MSI also have a 2Gb on the way. Anyone know when? Anyone have any advice whether it'll be worth waiting for?

Best 1Gb or more nVidia GPU for LARGE screens?
Airtrooper replied to Airtrooper's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcI was just wondering, how much regular RAM do you have? I'm using Vista 64-bit with 4Gb of DDR3 RAM and my 9800+ GTX 512Mb. If I upgrade to a 285 GTX 2Gb I'm expecting I'll have to increase my RAM by a similar amount.... BUT I read somewhere that FSX won't use RAM over a certain number of Gb (was it 4, 6 or 8, I can't remember?). Can anyone confirm if this is true? If so, will having so much VRAM compromise my performance in terms of regular RAM??

Best 1Gb or more nVidia GPU for LARGE screens?
Airtrooper replied to Airtrooper's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcJust out of curiosity, what processor do you have? I have a Quad Core Q9650 3.0Ghz (hope to overclock some day, when I learn how). Also, do you know how much of your VRAM is being used at any one time whilst flying in FSX?

Best 1Gb or more nVidia GPU for LARGE screens?
Airtrooper replied to Airtrooper's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcSo I discovered that Palit and Novatech sell the 285 GTX with 2Gb video RAM here in England. However, besides the 2Gb RAM the specs are exactly the same as a basic 285 GTX 1Gb. This means I need to make a choice between 1) double the RAM; or 2) better performance in terms of clock speed, memory bandwidth etc. with the EVGA 285 GTX FTW.... :( Any advice? What would you do?
