  1. HI ThereWell I have tried a 2 Gigabyte GTX285 and this does not improve the framerate at all.My conclusion is that I am CPU bound at 3840 X 1024 and therefore the graphics card makes no difference what so ever.I might try a lower powered GPU to the 3870X2 to see at what sort of performance the GPU starts to limit framerates.RegardsLufty
  2. Hi ThereCan anyone explain why the GTX285 is better with FSX then the GTX295 without taking price into consideration ?I upgraded from an ATI 3870X2 to a ATI 4870X2 and saw no difference in framerate at all.My system is an i7 overclocked to 3.4 GHz on Windows 7 Beta 64 bit with 6 Gigabytes of RAM, 3840 x !024 screen resolution on a Matrox Triplehead Digital edition. Many thanksLufty
  3. Hi JimmiGSorry to disappoint you but I have not seen any improvement with 9.6 drivers and if anything the performance appears to be worse but I have not done any scientific testing.RegardsLufty
  4. Hi ThereYes setting the affinity to more than one core is totally irrelevant as FS9 is not a multithreaded application although there is a marginal benefit in having windows use one core and FSX using another. On a reasonably fast processor you will find that Windows is only using a few % of the CPU so the difference is marginal.Windows does not reserve CPU bandwidth and if FS9 is using 50% then that is 50% of actual usage rather than a reserved figure.Regarding Hyperthreading it is true to say the original Hyperthreading on Intel Core HT cpus etc. was poor and in theory there could be a performance hit by FSX trying to use 2 pipelines and hitting a bottleneck in the processing unit although in my experiments it has made no difference whether Hyperthreading is on or off for FSX.RegardsLufty
  5. Hi GrahamThere are two ways of achieving this :-a. Use Wideview which would require 2 complete systems although they can be of a lesser specification. You can use whatever screens you have available in a different resolution to the main PC.b. Purchase a Matrox Triplehead device and keep to one PC although this will really push your PC at higher slider settings. It is also preferable to use identical screens in this configuration.RegardsLufty
  6. Hi thereI get a big improvement running FSX at 3840 x 1024 using a Matrox Triplehead Digital with an ATI 3870X2 in DX10 preview mode (which supports Crossfire) compared to when I run FSX in standard mode.I am guessing from the other posts that I should go for GTX295 at these resolutions ?RegardsLufty
  7. Hi EgbertThe Intel I7 has 4 cores but each core can run two threads because of Hyperthreading. Because FS9 is not written for multithreading it will only use one of the eight threads hence "Core Temp" is only showing 50% utilisation of physical Core 1. In other words it is using 100% of the first of its eight threads.I hope this helpsRegardsLufty
  8. Hi EveryoneJust to publicly thank Jim for the fast response to my request for a full version download. The quick response is very much appreciated along with the quick release of a Beta for ASA.Kind regardsLufty
  9. Hi JimWhich email address shall I use to send proof of purchase for a full download version ?Further to my previous emails I think you have made a pragmatic decision and will keep your loyal customer base on side.Best regardsLufty
  10. >Hi,>>After reviewing this, it appears that your simconnect>installation is fine. If you're getting messages from ASX in>FSX and connecting ok there is nothing wrong here.>>Based on the symptoms here, it looks like the FSX station>database is not being correctly loaded for some reason. There>may be a path configuration or share problem.>>The XEngine.log file should show the problem. Please post it>here after starting things up and getting the "depiction>complete" message.>>Thanks!Hi DamienThank you so much :-)I did not realise a logfile is created and the problem was very obvious as soon as I read the log file. For some reason ASX did not have access to the Main Flight Simulator X directory. I deleted the registry entry and recreated it and it worked immediately so maybe there was a double space or strange charector in the path as it looked ok to me before I deleted it.The reason it was not obvious is because the error in the logfile is very near the start of the process rather than after the processing of the downloaded weather is complete and consequently it scrolls of the screen very quickly.Maybe as an enhancement it could change the text to red for a major problem or perhaps there could be a verbose and errors only view of the logfile within the ASX window ?Either way I am up and working so thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction.Lufty
  11. Hi JimI have tried it with SP1a of the SDK installed without any luck.I currently have the SP2 SDK installed with the SP1a and SP2 client installed on the ASX machine but I have tried all combinations without any luckRegardsLufty
  12. Hi AllI have now reinstalled FSX without any luck.I have also disabled the Remote Access Connection Manager service which was identified as a problem with another user.I have also changed the Port used by Simconnect without any success either.I have also tried it with the 1160 (SP3 release version) with exactly the same problem. With all combinations the AI Traffic test program works fine using Simconnect.RegardsLufty
  13. Hi JimWith respect I have posted about a very similar problem with the weather not displaying in FSX. 1. Simconnect works perfectly2. ASX knows the aircraft location including when the aircraft is moved from the initial position3. ASX injects messages which are displayed within FSX.Running ASX on the FSX machine works perfectly with the weather updating correctly.I have tried everything you have suggested and more without any luck at all.I have tried it with ASX SP2 and also ASX SP3 Beta.I have removed the obvious like UAC, Antivirus, Firewall etc. without any luck.My FSX machine is running Windows Vista 64 bit with SP1.I have tried FSX SP1, SP2 and Acceleration with similar results.Kind regardsLufty
  14. Hi BillI tried an uninstall and then reinstall of ASX and also removing FSX SP2 and tried it with FSX SP1 and FSX SP2 and then FSX Acceleration without any luck. The two things I have not tried yet is a complete reinstall of FSX and also removing Windows Vista SP1.It is interesting that Windows Vista SP1 has also caused problems with some users (me included) with FSUIPC to do with the settings in the FSX.XML file but this could be a coincidence ?Let me know how you get on as I would love to solve this problem myself.RegardsLufty
  15. Hi BillThere are a few of us getting this problem from various posts on this forum and also on other Flight Sim Forums. The summary seems to be that Simconnect is setup and working fine with the relevant messages from ASX being displayed within FSX but that the weather is not updated.I wonder whether it is a particular software compatability problem and wonder whether everyone experiencing this problem should post their configuration to see if there are any patterns.I have :-ServerFS-X with Acceleration Windows Vista 64 Bit with SP1Registered version of FSUPIC (4.26)WideclientThe client is a Windows XP Pro machineRegardsLufty
