  1. My experiences were the same - I was getting awful FPS (with a 660Ti) until I re-installed the cloud and water textures, and I had the REX Textures installed for clouds and water which would appear to have been the culprit. You could try this which worked brilliantly for me. Replace your cloud textures (use the 512 or 1024 not HD) from here: http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=hde+ (choose second download on page), then install 'Oscar's Clouds' v4 from here: https://sites.google.com/site/aimecreations/freeware-fsx/fsx-clouds-screenshots Backup cumulus01.bmp from your FS textures folder before you do. I don't know who Oscar is, but I'd like to thank him for his texture excellence! FPS were also awful if I had Water 2.x Low selected, until I installed these textures: Water - http://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/1457/fsx-water-effects-texture/ Also, I found that when I set anisotropic filtering to application controlled, rather than the recommended user defined/off I got much improved FPS. This goes against the grain of the experience of many, but it's worth a shot if you're still having problems. Hope this is helpful to some of you. I'm really happy with my sim now, for the first time in a long time. Thanks to all for the DX10 goodness.
  2. Has anyone had any joy with DX10 on a 3DTV? I've got a lovely big Samsung LED TV, and FSX in DX10 is looking great thanks to all you top people on this forum. But I wondered.... is it worth forking out quite a bit of money for active 3d glasses for the TV? Does the 3D effect work well with FSX? Anyone got any experience doing this?
  3. Hi JD - thanks for the quick response. Yes, please could you send the response to the googlemail address? I just changed ISP for the first time in over 5 years for a new shiny fibre link, but it looks as though they're blocking some of my mail as I never received your response. I'll take that up with them, but thanks again for getting back to me - Radar Contact has given me a lot of pleasure over the years, and hopefully for more to come.all the bestOwen
  4. Hi, I recently rebuilt my PC and am eager to get Radar Contact back up and running, as nothing comes close as far as I am concerned. But for the last two weeks i've had no response back from the register@jtdllc.com address (with a key request), or help@jdtllc.com either.I appreciate that the software is pretty old now, but if it's no longer supported, could you let us know? Alternatively, if I've done something stupid or sent the register request to the wrong address, I'm happy to eat my joystick. Well at least have a nibble. All the bestOwen
  5. Although I have a VERY lowly spec to most of you (ATI4770), Mike has identified something of great value to me. The overvolting tool has worked a treat on my system - I was unable to overclock my card at all before (BSOD, lockups, the usual), with the tool I certainly can, and now I have a much more fluid FSX. I'll need to quantify this with some benchmarking. But for the moment, thanks Mike as this has helped greatly. To the previous poster, not sure how many of here have the means to compare and contrast between ATI and NVidia cards. Don't knock the o/p, he's identified something very useful.
  6. ok other things to check:if you have the enb series mod running, try disabling itif you have x64 windows 7, have you done the uiautomation core tweak HERE (scroll down to almost the bottom, the crucial post is on May 5th this year)?are you getting stutters? Have a good read on the PMDG Graphics corruption thread HEREIt's an enormous read I know, but good things come to those who wait :)It's a whole can of worms you are opening here you realise.... Good luck!Oh, the thing that made by far the biggest difference was me was the affinity mask setting in the config file. Definitely look into this one if you haven't already.
  7. what operating system are you running? got any system hog antivirus running? disabled content indexing etc? Seems weird that Concorde is going well but the Boeing isn't. Very strange indeed.
  8. Mindyerbeak: You say "My specs: i7 980x,gtx 480, 2X 300gb raptors"and only 8fps? Blimey. I've had the 757 for a good 18 months now, and on my very modest system (q6600 mildly overclocked, 1 x Samsung drive, 4GB DDR2) I get excellent frame rates with it. Even when I've got real time weather, 70% traffic, Radar Contact and photoreal scenery on.I think you need to some serious tweakage of your fsx.cfg file, and perhaps have another look at Bojote's tweaks elsewhere on these forums. I know you have the PMDG 747 and MD11, but IMHO the only plane which seriously taxes a recent machine such as yours would be the Flightsimlabs Concorde X, which is a beast of a machine that eats PC's for breakfast. But in a good way ;)So maybe give the CS 757 another chance - it's given me a lot of pleasure over the last 18 months, I only wish I'd only had to spend a tenner on it....cheersOwen
  9. have a look at http://dcascreenshots.net/dcaforum/viewtop...=33&t=11912apparently there are two fixes you need - an FSX compatibility fix, then a separate transparency fix.Hope this helps!Owen
  10. you don't necessarily need to spend money...Just use Google Earth for your moving map (you can even superimpose the weather onto it if you like), and use the built-in simconnect dll to hook the 2 machines together on your wireless lan. That way you can turn the autopilot on, take the laptop with you while you eat your tea, and be back at your main PC in time for the descent.Have a look at this:http://fsxget.codeplex.com/It's pretty easy to set up and works a treat on my baby Dell laptop. Having said all that, thanks to Mindyerbeak for the top tip about tasoftware. Looks great.
  11. I've used this one for a long time:http://www.bitsum.com/prolasso.phpit does nag a bit here and there, but the programming is sound. There's a free version (with nag) or you can pay if you like. Up to you.I found that once I'd put the affinitymask to 14, and followed a similar setup to audiohavoc above, the sim is orders of magnitude better. Lovely and smooooth.Owen
  12. thanks Sigmar, I like the idea of crackling radios! I'll give this a go tonight. I'm having the most problems with the Flightsimlabs Concorde which is a beauty, but is taxing my 2 year old system to its limits. Think my transatlantic leg may be a bit quicker than yours! Will report back in a bit. Owen
  13. Can I just clarify - Sigmar says above that he " have reduced sound quality to "1" in FSX.cfg (was at "2"), added a [bUFFERPOOLS] section with a reject threshold of 256K and a size of 2M and will try again and continue to report results."I'm confused - do I need the RejectThreshold AND the Bufferpools entry as he suggests? I thought that only RejectThreshold necessary? Can ******* or anyone else confirm this?thanksOwen
  14. weird it didn't work for you Squishy. Try this instead (in AVSIM hifi-o-rama) http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=67807 If I read it correctly you should be able to change your viewpoint and save it as default, so you don't have to change the view each time you load the plane. Not sure if this is quite the same as changing what would be called depth of field if it was a real camera view though.Does anyone know whether the EZDok software does this?
  15. well I had a little hunt around for you - not sure if this post from a while back is any use?http://forums1.avsim.net/lofiversion/index.php/t67807.htmlI'm sure I remember some similar tweaks a while back, but it may be as long ago as when I was FS2004....!
  16. you might want to have a look at this site:http://walhalla.mine.nu/fsx.phpwhich is a pretty comprehensive directory of all freeware scenery, kept up to date.cheers,Owen
  17. Well just to add my 2p to the mix - I changed to an Affinitymask=14 just this week as I was so fed up of frankly rubbish performance of FSX. This really was the last one I was prepared to do to make it usable. The difference has been incredible - SO much smoother, and with steady FPS of 25-40 all the time (whereas before it was stuttering like crazy and barely reaching 20FPS). Same quad core, same graphics card, same add ons. I've even been able to max out the AA and AF settings on my modest Radeon 4770 for the first time.I would STRONGLY recommend this to anyone who is fed up of FSX performance to anyone who hasn't tried it. On the face of it, it seems illogical to remove a core to make things better. But the amount it frees up for the OS, active sky, radar contact, etc etc. makes it all worthwhile.I'm actually happy with FSX for the first time ever, which is really saying something.
  18. update on this - FSX does not see the stick at all whether it be in Mode 1 or Mode 2. Though Vista 64 can see it fine, and I can calibrate it fine. Is something weird going on with one of the FSX config files?Guessing I have a stick that is DOA and should go back to the great Saitek factory in the sky....
  19. To cut a very frustrating evenings work short, my trusty Logitech Freedom 2.4 finally died after years of good service, so I bought myself an early Xmas present of an Saitek AV8R 02 which arrived today. The place I bought it (Amazon) suggested it was PC compatible. However it looks as though I should have taken more notice of the "XBOX 360" words on the spec.Trying to set it up in FSX is a nightmare. It shows up in Vista 64 as a XBox 360 controllerNone of the Saitek profiling software has any effect on it that I can tellThe manual is about as much use as a chocolate teapot. So the question is, should I just return it to Amazon and get a AV8R 01 or an equivalent Logitech?I work in IT but I really haven't got the time or the patience to be fannying around with something that should work, and is advertised to work, straight out the box. It's a shame cos I was led to be believe that Saitek kit was quality.Rant over.Anyone had any success with this stick and FSX? All suggestions gratefully received.cheers Owen
