  2. So I guess it's normal?! Interesting, i've just never noticed it before! Thanks!Regards,Tom Wright
  3. Some screshots of the problem..Regards,Tom Wright
  4. Hi, Bit of an odd question this really, but something I noticed yesterday while messing around! On the ground in any aircraft, default or add on, if you zoom in the VC really really close up, do you get a weird horizontal strip of ground texture move across the instrument panel? Just wanted to check whether this is a problem with my set up or if it's just another FSX quirk! Thanks,Tom Wright
  5. Do you have the HIGHMEMFIX=1 line in your fsx.cfg?Tom Wright
  6. I'm intrigued as to why you feel the need to do this? :( Regards,Tom Wright
  7. I've got the Katana you're talking about and it really is great! For such a small aircraft they've really packed a lot of neat features into it and it's a joy to fly too!I remember someone on the dev team saying the NGX will model the different types of brakes and their performance differences. Also the winglet models and their performance advantage over non-wingletted models. I'd be interested to know about damage/wear and tear too. Though it would be quite cool, I think for a commercial jet simulation it's not as necessary for a pilot to worry about the maintenance of the aircraft as it is for the pilot of a GA aircraft. Commercial jets in their nature are so complicated that they have a team of experts that maintain each individual part of the aircraft - engines, avionics, airframe etc. You'd never see the Captain of a 738 pop out and open up the cowling and top up the oil in the No.1 for example!!Tom Wright
  8. WOAI - World Of AI. I used them for a long time before a hard drive reformat. Great models and lots of airlines, and it's free. Only disadvantage is every single airline has to be downloaded separately so whole process takes ages.Tom Wright
  9. Flight Sim has never been better than it is at the moment IMO. There's lots of great new add ons just released or to be released imminently. As has been said there's the Captain Sim 777, and the original Pratt powered 737s, which look great. Another aircraft I recently bought which i've really been enjoying is the Diamond DA20 Katana 4X from Aerosoft. Yes, it's a GA bird, but the attention to detail is stunning. It's the first time in Flight Sim i've ever seen a "living aircraft", one that gets damaged, one that uses fuel and oil each time you use it, one that gets dirty etc. You really have to look after the engine - check and if necessary top up the oil, check the fuel tanks for water. Too many heavy landings will take its toll on the airframe and you'll have problems. It really is incredible. And scenery wise, if you live in the UK, Earth Simulations have the Channel Islands coming up, as well as the Isle of Man. Their scenery is definitely up there with OrbX IMO.Tom Wright

  12. I've just bought that! Looks really good - it's like one of those Neopet things you have to keep looking after!Tom Wright
  13. Did I read that right - 24Gb of RAM? :( I think it'll do.Tom Wright
  14. Hi guys, thanks for your replies. I will try another flight without the weather engine and see what happens. It's a good explanation but it did hang a pretty long time (probabaly about 5 minutes) before it resumed again! Usually the weather import only takes a few seconds.I already have the HIGHMEMFIX=1 line in my cfg and have been using it for a while now since I got FSLabs Concorde X. That aircraft suffered more than most with texture overload problems (where you switch views and parts of the aircraft and/or scenery just vanish forcing a reload)! The HIGHMEMFIX=1 line successfully sorted that. The sim still freezes from time to time though. Thanks,Tom Wright
  15. Hi!I've had the 747-400X for a while now and it is one of my favourite add ons. One problem I do have though is that every now and then (very intermittant) when flying a long-haul flight, at some point FSX will freeze and hang. The screen will fog and the task manager will say "Not Responding". However, 9 times out of 10 if I don't quit FSX and leave it hanging there for a few minutes, it will usually resume and continue as normal, either returning after another few hours or not happening again at all.I've got what I consider to be a pretty good system: Intel Core i7 920 clocked to 3.6GHz, 6.0Gb DDR3, GTX285, FSX and addons installed on a solid state drive (everything else installed on a separate hard disk drive), running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. Other add ons in use at the time are REX 2.0 (with real world weather via SimConnect - which plays havoc with the aircraft's speed but that's a completely different issue!), and some Xtreme series airports from UK2000.Any help would be welcomed! Many thanks,Tom Wright
  16. For a few seconds? Before I tried this fix I was completely unable to regain my textures without a restart. Once they were gone, they were gone for good. Just losing them for a few seconds is fine as long as they return!Regards,Tom Wright
  17. DX10 preview mode seems to solve this problem too. Not sure why, but it's a better bet if you don't want to lose your sounds (and have compatible hardware).Regards,Tom
  18. I think you're just lucky! I've NEVER tinkered with my machine, and like you I had it built for me by a reputable computer company, but i've had this texture problem from the day I started using complex addons like PMDG J41, CS 757 and now the Concorde X.It does appear though that the sound dll 'fix' suggested here seems to solve the problem. I'm very excited to see where this goes in the long run.Regards,Tom Wright
  19. I'd just like to add a little update on my findings. I've now disabled the sounds dll file as suggested, and on the most part this seems very successful. On my test flight, which was at dawn in heavy weather conditions at JFK, in Concorde, by view changing alone I was no longer able to replicate the problem. By toggling between full screen and windowed mode (ALT ENTER), I was eventually able to replicate it. However, unlike before, this time I was able to immediately recover all my textures and return to normal, simply by toggling full screen/windowed again. Before, once the textures had started to disappear, that was it - game over.Regards,Tom Wright
  20. Which sound fix the DLL one? I'm trying that now. Shame I can't get any of the cockpit sounds though - Concorde X has a lot of those.Regards,Tom Wright
  21. Hi,This is a very useful thread - thank you! I've been suffering with the disappearing textures issue for a long time now. I've seen it so far with the PMDG Jetstream 41, the Captain Sim Boeing 757 and now the FSLabs Concorde X, the latter being the worst affected. It happens randomly, but is particularly triggered by high settings, flying through heavy weather (ie thunderstorms, detailed clouds etc) and at intense scenery areas. Changing view frequently, using a menu function (ie map etc) or switching between full/screen and windowed mode almost always replicates the problem. It is very annoying. My system specs: Asus P6T Deluxe v2 mobo, Intel Core i7 920 D0 @ 3.6GHz (OC), 6.0Gb DDR3 RAM, Zotac GTX285 OC 1Gb (driver version 197.13, also occured with previous versions), Windows 7 64 bit. I do have a Soundblaster Audigy SE 7.1 sound card, but presently I have my PC plugged into a HDTV and output sound through the HDMI adapter, which is fed from the SPDIF connection on the motherboard's onboard sound card. It's worth noting though that I also had the issue using the Audigy card. I see too the surprising number of sufferers having ASUS boards. That's very interesting. Someone I know from another Flight Sim Forum bought a computer at the same time as me from the same place, with an identical spec EXCEPT for the fact that he had a Gigabyte mobo and I had the Asus. He hasn't had any texture problems with his and I have.I was running a lot of detailed addons (REX 2.0, Horizons photo scenery, airports etc), but i've done a complete reinstall now with just FSX SP2 and Concorde X. I'm still getting the problem just as frequently as before. My slider settings are fairly high. I do see some improvement if I turn them down, but not much, and with a high system spec it isn't much fun to have to turn down your sliders! I'm using nHancer for graphics (set up using NickN's guide), I also see the problem without this installed. My cfg is tweaked with only the Texture_Bandwidth_Mult=70 line changed. I did try bufferpools but it didn't make much difference, and caused some other undesirable effects such as artifacts and tearing.Q&A1. Have you ever seen this issue happen with the PMDG J41? Yes. Quite frequently in fact.2. Have you ever seen this happen in Windows XP (32 or 64-bit)? Never used XP 64 bit. Certainly didn't see it in XP 32, or Vista 32 either.3. Have you ever seen anything like this happen in FS9? No, but i've never used FS9 on a 64 bit OS.4. Have you ever seen this happen with a default aircraft or other aircraft you know to not be using custom sound? Not that I know of.5. Can you reproduce the issue on a completely clean
  22. I can use the REX textures just not the weather engine. What triggered it was accessing any menu function. Without the REX weather engine, it appears to be ok. Wierd! I also have the PMDG 747 installed, but don't have any problems with that.Kind Regards,Tom Wright
  23. Hi guys!Like a few others on here, I was suffering from graphical glitches with the J41. Mostly when i'd exited a menu, returning to the flight would result in missing textures (sky, ground, aircraft etc), a flickering cockpit or just no picture at all. Occasionally pressing ESC a couple of times would 'reset' the picture so it would return to normal, but not always. I seem to have sourced it to using Real Environment Xtreme generated weather, or real world weather. First I set up a flight with REX real world weather, flew around a bit, then used a menu function. On return to the aircraft the textures had disappeared. I then reset, used FSX weather but set it to depict the same sort of weather scenario I had when using REX, and flew around the same route for the same time, but couldn't get it to repeat the problem.Just thought i'd post my findings!Regards,Tom Wright
  24. I set it back to 1024 and it seemed to alleviate this particular problem. However I am getting various different problems in FSX at the moment for some reason, though they're not PMDG J41 related. Whatever aircraft i'm using, the graphics can just disappear - both for the aircraft skin and/or interior, and the textures for the airport runway/buildings just leaving the terrain underneath. It's very annoying!Regards,Tom Wright
  25. Hi guys!I've recently been suffering from the previously mentioned corruption of the virtual cockpit, where large transparant blue shapes flicker all over the screen occasionally in the VC. This came on all of a sudden one day, having used the aircraft happily with no bother for a couple of weeks. It doesn't happen every time, but quite frequently.I was scratching my head as to what I must have done to make it happen so suddenly - surely it wouldn't just start happening for no reason! Then I realised, shortly before the problems started, I had applied a 'tweak' to the FSX.cfg file to up the Texture_Max_Load value from the default 1024, to 4096 in order to take advantage of the REX high definition clouds. Could this change have caused the VC graphics corruption?Regards,Tom Wright
