  1. May have solved this one (I think!). I've set Vsync off in the Nvidia Control Panel. I've then stopped Windows DWM after loading FSX, forcing it to restart - looks like its fixed it
  2. Thanks Paul, that looks like the perfect solution. I'm struggling a bit getting vsync to work in windowed mode though. I've added ForceWindowedVSync=1 to the [Graphics] section but I'm still getting tearing in FSX in windowed mode. I've got frames in FSX limited to 30. I'm just using the NVIDIA Control Panel, and for FSX I've tested the Vertical Sync setting at 'On', 'Adaptive (half refresh rate)' and 'Use the 3D application setting' - none of these has worked in windowed mode. I'm running a GTX670 with drivers 314.07 Any light you can shine on this will be greatly appreciated Best regards Rob
  3. Thanks for the info Paul - I'll give it a try. Do the same principles for v-sync apply under Windowed mode - i.e. setting the Frame Limiter to 30fps etc? Many thanks Rob
  4. Thanks Mark - good to hear what the official line is from FSL. I'm not sure what the lesser of the two evils is, flying without the main ADI or flying with ADI in windowed mode with the screen tearing! I guess its all about the compromise! Cheers Rob
  5. Cool, that works thank you! The only issue now is that V-Sync doesn't seem to like windowed mode
  6. Hi folks, Appreciate that this isn't a product support forum for the Concorde X but wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing the same problem as me and/or is their a fix or workaround? I've just switched to running in DX10 Preview - applying the shader fixes mentioned in this forum With Concorde X as soon as the aircraft is powered the ADI spins around to show a plain white ball - all of the pitch and nav guides appear on it still but no horizon. The strange thing is the ADI shows fine when the aircraft is un-powered: Any ideas? Thanks Rob Wilkinson
  7. Thanks David, appreciate the help Rob Wilkinson
  8. Yep - I've reset the MCP ALT ahead of TOD and A/P is in VNAV mode. The Aircraft starts its descent but the flight display still shows CRZ rather than DES.
  9. Hi Folks, I've noticed on the last couple of flights that the FMC doesn't switch over to DES mode after crossing TOD, it remains in CRZ. The aircraft descends and shows the profile but N1 only decreases to 42% and the mode still reads CRZ. Any ideas whats going on? ThanksRob Wilkinson
  10. Ryan,I've tried the sound dll fix that you gave and ran a test flight in the 747x from KLAS to KSFO and it worked brilliantly, just a shame to miss all the other sounds. I was running UTX. GEX and REX with real world weather and also at the Dusk/Night transition. Also I was running UT2 with airline traffic set to 80% and GA to 60%. It all ran fine, I accessed the menus multiple times and was able to run an instant replay fine when landing at KSFO.Previously I was always getting the skeleton with the 747 on this flight, particularly when running an instant replay after landing in KSFO.I listed my system specs in a previous post but I'm one of the Asus P6T Deluxe V2 users, using onboard audio (although my X-Fi card caused the same issue on this rig)CheersRob Wilkinson
  11. It does seem that the majority of folks with issues here have the Asus P6T chipset motherboard in it various forms, as per Ryan's post above. What I find interesting is that I have a P6T V2 Deluxe board and I have issues both using the Onboard audio and also by using an X-Fi Xtremegamer card (whilst having motherboard audio disabled in the bios). The only reason I started using the Onboard audio was I could lower the sound quality futher in Vista than with the X-Fi.Prior to this rig I had a Q9650 running on an Asus P5E board, X38 chipset. On this I used the same X-Fi card and never had a single issue like I'm experiencing now.I'm wondering whether the P6T board fall over with any sound chipset, either onboard or standalone?Rob Wilkinson
  12. Ryan, thanks for starting this interesting and useful topic, appreciate the time you are putting into researching this. I too experience Issue #4. I have an Asus P6T Deluxe V2 with an i7 920. Currently I'm using the onboard SoundMax audio although I also had this issue with a Creative Labs X-FI in the same system.1. Have you ever seen this issue happen with the PMDG J41?Occasionally I see the flickering textures in the VC of the J41. This usually occurs in complex scenery airports and weather. I can stop the problem occurring by selecting the standard definition mode in the J41 config tool.2. Have you ever seen this happen in Windows XP (32 or 64-bit)?I used to use XP 32 and never saw this problem, only OOM3. Have you ever seen anything like this happen in FS9?No4. Have you ever seen this happen with a default aircraft or other aircraft you know to not be using custom sound?No5. Can you reproduce the issue on a completely clean
  13. Thanks for your help Ryan. I took your advice today and changed the Sound settings from "Default Primary Device" to my actual sound card. This seemed to do the trick for a bit. I managed the flight in the MD-11 from EGLL to LSZH without a problem - even accessing the Map etc. However on the return flight back to EGLL the flickering/missing VC cockpit problem occurred again after I opened the map. Interestingly though I hit Alt-Enter and in windowed mode the problem went away. However when I dragged out the window to make it larger the flickering/missing VC occurred again. This sure is a puzzler!!
  14. Unfortunately its still not working for me. Just ran my test flight again in the MD-11 from EGLL and LSZH as per the tutorial. This time I had set sound quality to 0 in the CFG file. But when I landed at LSZH I brought up the Map from the Menu, then as soon as I return to the sim the display was corrupted. Interestingly though this time I didn't get flickering, I just ended up with a blue sky, with no clouds, no ground textures and no scenery objects, also the VC has disappeared. Moving to the external view all I could see apart from the blue sky was the external engine casings for the 2 wing engines (tail engine not visible) and the Landing Lights (floating in mid air!). Apart from that everything was missing.I really hope someone from PMDG picks this thread up again as I only get this problem with their planes, and only since I upgraded to a Core i7. I had the exact same Operating System and spec before, just running on a Q9650.Its a real shame as i love the PMDG planes but this is really starting to put me off. I don't think I'd purchase another one until I can solve this problem (or a guru from PMDG helps solve it!)Rob
  15. I'm also trying JooHon's fix right now. I tried the MD-11 tutorial flight from EGLL to LSZH again with the sound off using 'Q' and everything worked fine. Once on the ground at LSZH I could view Instant Replays and access all of the Menus without any blank screens/flickering textures.Strange that this problem is in someway linked to the sound but causes graphical glitches. It only happens to me with the PMDG planes, 747 and MD-11. I'd really like to know what their technical/developer guys make of it because it doesn't seem like an isolated problem.I'll let you know how it goes with the Sound Quality set to '0'. the only thing I can notice immediately is that there is a slight popping noise in the background. Still better than flickering scenery I guess. Thanks for the helpRob
  16. Thanks for the swift reply. I was using Vista 64 with my old Q9650 rig and didn't experience the flickering texture issue like i do now with my I7 rig.
  17. Hi, I seem to have joined this debate late in the day but I too seem to be suffering from the black/missing/flickering textures when flying the PMDG MD-11. I can recreate the issue everytime I fly the original tutorial from EGLL to LSZH. Whenever I land in Zurich and open the FSX Map or other windows, Instant Reply etc, as soon as I return to the sim the cockpit has vanished and all the scenery textures are flashing wildly. I'm unable to recover from this and have to shut down FSX and restart each time, really frustrating.I'm running an i7 920, with 6Gb of Ram, a GTX285 and Vista 64. I'm also using an SB Audigy card. I can't reduce the sound quality below 44khz 16bit so i've been unable to test the theory of reducing sound quality. I also use nHancer 2.5.7 and I've backed off AA to 4xS. I'm using the 195.62 nvidia drivers.Have to say that this is really putting me off FSX as this problem occurs randomly during flights when accessing menus (even the PMDG failure menu) and its soul destroying after investing so much time in setting up a flight etc etc.I never had the problem with my old Q9650 system so I'm wondering whether there's any common link with the Core I7's?Anyways all the best folksRob
  18. Hi Folks,I'm having a problem with FSX where after an hour of flying or so, when I call up the menu and access the Map or Instant Replay or Settings etc, when I exit the menu and go back to the sim the display becomes corrupted. The cockpit vanishes and the scenery textures flash and flicker. If I press Esc I can End Flight and go back to the main FSX screen, interestingly though the preview image of the aircraft on the Free Flight screen just shows as a black box. Do you think this is a problem with my graphics card?I'm running a i920 @ 3.8ghz (core temps during Prime95 are 58c), 6Gb Ram, Asus P6T Deluxe V2, BFG GTX285 OCX card (with factory settings), and Vista 64. I'm using the 195.62 Nvidia drivers and nHancer 2.5.7Only seems to affect FSX, all other Apps and games are running fine.ThanksRob

  20. Yep, I think it was the locks, thanks guys. Previously I'd fired up the Cessna at KAPA, due to the position of the levers on my throttle quadrant the engine cut out pretty much straight away. I'd then loaded the J41 and the engines cut out. Although from the external view the props looked like they were on the locks I don't think that they truly were, hence the starting problems.I tried again with a proper shut down and the locks engaged, I was then able to fire the engines up correctly. Thanks for your help and happy flying.Rob
  21. Thanks folks, I'll check again but I'm 99% certain that I was on the start locks. I compared to the pictures shown in the forum and the props looked in the right position, that flat plane appearance when looking side on to the fuselage.Interestingly I tried a manual start and the RPM's rose very quickly, so fast in fact that I couldn't keep up with the manual start process and fried the engine!CheersRob
  22. Hi Folks,I'm trying to take a flight in the JS41 from KAPA in Denver. For some reason I cannot get the engines to start, the RPM's build very very slowly and the starter switch doesn't click off. However the EGT's remain below the limit and there is no engine fire.Is there something I need to do because of the altitude of the airfield at 5793ft?ThanksRob
  23. Thanks Bob, sounds like you're getting great performance! I guess I like tinkering with my system, its been a little while since I did an upgrade so it would give me a project to work on.Although I'm getting smooth perf at 35fps I'm not running any AI traffic so I'd really hope that the extra punch of an i7 would allow me to fill my virtual skies.
  24. I thinking about taking the plunge and upgrading to the Core i7 club. However I'm slightly nervous as there seems to be some mixed results posted here. It seems that performance in FSX does improve with i7 but that stutters can become a problem.Currently I'm running a Q9650 clocked to 3.6ghz (my Asus P5E X38 board doesn't want to go any faster!) and a GTX 285 and i seem to get reasonable frames (thanks to Nick N!). For example during the PMDG J41 tutorial flight I'm running between 30-45FPS (no stutters), that's with UTX and GEX. Would a clocked 4ghz i7 920 give me a significant improvement over this or just induce a stuttering headache and more hours of tweaking?
  25. I was looking at this myself yesterday. There was a good article in PC Format about Virtual Memory. From their benchmarking tests virtual mem performance was significantly increased when a user specified amount was set, rather than letting windows manage it. Also they noticed that performance was increased further when virtual mem was split across 2 seperate drives.RobEdit - apologies, this isn't probably the right forum for this topic.
