  1. All good suggestions...but, too late. However, I just kept returning to my registry editor searching for more files. I did find some more and deleted them. This is strange, but true, when I looked at Revo Uninstaller (I happen to have bought it several years ago) there was FSX! I uninstalled it and it worked! But, now I have a different problem. While trying to install FSX it gets about half way and then I get an error message telling me it can not find ablscpt.dll. Nothing to do but abort the install. I'm not sure where it is supposed to be, or where to find it, so I'm dead in the water again.
  2. Yep. uninstall gives an error message. Can't find files.
  3. I have searched both here and on Brand X and found several posts about my problem. However, they are fairly old and mostly deal with XP and Win 7. I have Windows 10 running on a Dell XPS with 16mb of RAM and a 2 gig HD. Now, here's the problem. I recently had a problem with Orbx Base package and had to uninstall it. Somehow, in the process I managed to delete all of the files in FSX. Don't ask, I have no idea! Anyway, I then tried to uninstall FSX but it couldn't be found. I went into my regedit program and deleted everything with either "microsoft Flight Simulator" or "FSX". Then, I cleaned the registry of unused files. (ccleaner) I also went into my user\name\remote, and local and deleted the microsoft\FSX folders. Also went into user\name\appdate\documents and made sure all folders were deleted. Finally I searched my C drive for "FSX" and found probably 40 files in users. When I tried to delete them most of them wouldn't delete because it said they were no longer in there. Not sure what to do about that. Anyhow, I tried to reinstall FSX and it keeps coming up with either "repair" or "uninstall". I know there are probably some vagrant files somewhere but I don't know what else to do to find them. I sure don't want to re-install windows so is there anything else I can do?
  4. UPDATE - Well, after a couple of days my ctd problem came back so I uninstalled everything and started over. After installing Global Vector, the problem returned so I uninstalled it and continued on with all my other sceneries. Now after running for about 4 days my FSX loads faster and I have no issues with any ctd at all. So, it looks like Vector was my problem all along. I'm leaving it uninstalled and working great.
  5. Well, so far everything is good. I'll keep checking but quite possibly that fixed it. My graphics settings were just too high. I hope maybe this will help others down the road.
  6. ok. I finally downloaded your AVSIM CTD Guide. (I couldn't find it until finally seeing it in your signature. :( I'm just a little slow I'm afraid.) I did have rather high settings as per the FTX Global recommendations, so I have turned them down some and will try this for a while. I'll let you know. Thanks again for your help. I'm sure you get kind of tired going through the same things over and over but you have been very patient. Gary
  7. Thanks for responding Jim. I renamed my fsx.cfg file and reloaded the game. The problem has now changed just a bit in that it now will just close without any error msg. I find that I can't reload because it says FSX is still running and I have to open my task manager and find it in background processes which I can then close. I called up the Event Viewer and see that the faulting module is ntdll.dll. After searching for quite some time (both AVSIM and the net) There are several "fixes" listed but none of them work. I even re-installed my NVIDIA updates as many of the sites I read point to Graphics problems. I'm probably looking at a complete re-install of FSX but I don't want to do it until I just have to because of many large add-on programs such as FTX Global, Global Vector, and a host of Sceneries. I'm not sure which way to go right now but I wanted to update you as to what I have found. If you have any suggestions that I could try I'm anxious to hear them as I have run out of ideas. PS..The only ntdll.dll error fixes I could find on AVSIM by searching was one that dealt with P3D.
  8. Dell XPS 8910-Win 10 Home-16GB Ram-FSX Deluxe with Acceleration. I have been searching but can't find a problem like mine. When I load FSX for the first time and try to do anything (select different airplane, etc.) I get a fatal error msg and CTD. If I reload and select SETTINGS/Scenery, then click ok I get another fatal error and CTD. If I keep doing this 3-4 times, then FSX works perfectly. I know there's a way to see what is causing the error but I can't remember how to do it. Apparently something isn't loading into memory until the error happens several times? Any help would be appreciated.
  9. Thanks Jim. I have my assignment for today! Meanwhile, I went ahead and uninstalled Acceleration then did a repair of FSX. It seems to have worked as everything loads correctly now. I really do appreciate your help. You're right, I should never go to any other FS site! Gary
  10. oops, sorry about that. Maybe you can answer another question: I installeed FSX directly to my C drive rather than Program files (X86). Does this have something to do with why very few of my installed FSX programs show up in the uninstall menu? Are they installing somewhere else? Listen, thanks again for your help. I do appreciate it. Gary
  11. as for the UIAutomationCore.dll: This is a fix recommended on flightsim to stop these fatal errors. I think I know why you don't know of it. It doesn't work! I found something interesting. When I went to uninstall the Aerosoft sceneries they were not in the installed programs lists. Maybe this is a difference in Win 10, but on Win 7 they showed up and could be uninstalled. I'm not sure how to get them uninstalled unless I uninstall FSX. Thanks for taking the time to educate me.
  12. I have also posted this on flightsim but thought maybe someone will see it who doesn't go there. Hope that's ok. About two months ago I bought a new computer and, of course, it came with windows 10. I read as much as I could about the FSX problems, then went ahead and began installing FSX Deluxe. Everything went well all the way through FS Global Asia, Europe, and the Americas. I kept starting FSX to make sure the installs went well. I was finally installing Aerosoft products (the first 5-6 went well) then all the sudden I got the "fatal error msg. I rebooted the computer then tried to start FSX but after just a few seconds the message comes on the FSX shuts down. I have installed the UIAutomationCore.dll but ran into a bit of a problem as there was no compatability setting for windows 10. So, I chose Win 7 but it didn't help. I have tried pretty much everything I could find on this subject short of re-installing FSX. Could someone help me? Here is my error log: Faulting module path: C:\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\ui.dll Report Id: 9e963afd-ce14-11e6-895d-58fb846262d5 Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID: Event Xml: <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"> <System> <Provider Name="Application Error" /> <EventID Qualifiers="0">1000</EventID> <Level>2</Level> <Task>100</Task> <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords> <TimeCreated SystemTime="2016-12-29T22:17:44.672732100Z" /> <EventRecordID>10870</EventRecordID> <Channel>Application</Channel> <Computer>DESKTOP-8P61SBB</Computer> <Security /> </System> <EventData> <Data>fsx.exe</Data> <Data>10.0.61637.0</Data> <Data>46fadb14</Data> <Data>ui.dll</Data> <Data>10.0.61637.0</Data> <Data>46fadb59</Data> <Data>c0000005</Data> <Data>0003c963</Data> <Data>1a68</Data> <Data>01d262215cf9cf75</Data> <Data>C:\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\fsx.exe</Data> <Data>C:\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\ui.dll</Data> <Data>9e963afd-ce14-11e6-895d-58fb846262d5</Data> <Data> </Data> <Data> </Data> </EventData> </Event>
  13. ok, I've got the aircraft (thanks 777) now just a couple more questions: Does the FS9 have to be in a separate folder in SimObjects? I read somewhere that you can't have FS9 and FSX in the same place. Also, Where is the "title" information contained in config? I don't have all the aircraft the flightplan calls for and am trying to rename some that I do have.
  14. Not sure where to find the cfg file for aifp??? I have searched avsim but am wondering if I can install FS9 aircraft?
  15. Does anyone know where I can find some Great Lakes Aviation AI Aircraft? I have been looking all over the net with little results. I downloaded an AI flight plan for this and attempted to install it using AIFP but I don't have most of the aircraft it needs.
  16. Thanks Skelsey. Guess I've got to read up on each airliner, assuming the FSX models are made to fly the same as real ones. Darrinward777, I'll give these a look. I worked as an electronics tech for the FAA. (32 years) I understand ILS's from the ground as I maintained them for years but never had the opportunity to see them from the aircraft side.
  17. I kinda figured my question about the ILS would be hard to answer. Just took a shot Thanks for the tutorial on IAS VS TAS. I guess I never really thought about the difference. If you're flying IAS, how do you know if your landing speed is too high (or too low)?
  18. Ok, I just flew an approach and it's apparent I was landing with my speed too high. I do have a couple of questions that may or may not be related: 1. Should my airspeed in the settings menu be set for true or indicated? This seems to make a big difference. 2. In the panels I have (and several others I have tried) I can't figure out how to get my ILS display to show so that I know when it is captured. All I seem to be able to select is either arc or rose and the ILS loc and G/S doesn't show on either setting. Is there something I'm missing here? Thanks again for the responses. I sure wouldn't have figured this landing speed out without them. Ok, I just flew an approach and it's apparent I was landing with my speed too high. I guess it's possible the panel makers didn't include the ILS panel but every one I had with FS9 had them so I assumed they would be available in FSX I fly 2D panels
  19. I'm sorry I haven't responded to all the posts....bit of a family emergency. I just read through and think I must be trying to land too fast. In FS9 I landed almost all jets from the B737 to the 747 at around 160-150 kts. It seemed to work fine in FS9 but not in FSX. As soon as I'm able to spend some time at it I'll do some experimenting and let you know. Thanks everyone for the comments and advice. BTW twojastara, that video was excellent. Thanks for posting it.
  20. I haven't tried it with smaller planes so that's something to look at. I've flown the 737, 777,787, and usually fly ILS approaches so it's a 3% glideslope. I dis-engage (is that a word?) the ILS when approximately 500 ft altitude and fly by hand on down. I have to admit that I haven't looked at what my speed is doing after turning off the Autopilot and Speed settings so maybe it's coming back up instead of bleeding off like I'm used to in FS9. It just seems strange that I never had this problem in FS9. I have set my speed indicator all the way down to stall settings with no change in the bounce. It does appear that it still wants to fly though so maybe I'll do some approaches and watch what my speed is doing very carefully. Realism settings are at medium. .
  21. I like to fly airliners and have flown on FS9 for years. I recently switched to FSX and am having a problem landing. No matter how slow I try to land it always acts as though my landing speed is much too fast. When I touch down the aircraft bounces up then I can't get it to stall again until I'm too far down the runway. When I flew in FS9 I could always kind of "stick" the landing where it stayed down then I could activate my braking and reverse thrusters. Am I doing something wrong or is there some kind of a bug in the program?
  22. I'm trying to get some commuter ai's installed which aren't included in any of woai packages. I'm wondering if the ai aircraft (mostly aig btw) should show up in the current aircraft folder in fsx? I have been trying to use AIFP3 to install the aircraft as well as the flight plans and I'm not sure I'm doing it right. I placed the ai aircraft in my aircraft folder along with the flyable planes.
  23. Ok thanks. That's what I'll do then. And I'll copy everything to a backup this time.
  24. If I use the repair function will I lose my add-on scenery?
  25. Ok, here's what I did: I was cleaning up some aircraft I don't want and accidently deleted the default airplane. I did this some time ago and since I had saved a default flight I didn't notice the problem until today. I had installed an aircraft and tried to place a panel in it. For some reason fsx didn't like this and it kept ----. I deleted the aircraft and rebooted my computer but the problem was still there. I decided I'd just delete my fsx.cfg and let it rebuild which was a great idea except that it now needs the default "kite" to work. (of course, I inadvertently cleaned my trash out so no old cfg file either. Now when I try to load FSX it gives me an error message: "Aircraft initialization failure. Aircreation582sl red". If I tell that box to close fsx loads to my home page where I get another error message: "SimObject display engine for fsx/P3D has stopped working". I told the simobject display engine to run when fsx was loading and I don't know if this is a part of the missing aircraft or not. Could someone tell me either where I could find one on the net (I found a repaint on FlightSim) or maybe send me the file? Thanks. (I know, I know! This whole thing was pretty stupid but I did it and now I have the problem.) oops, I meant to say FSX kept freezing.
