  1. i keep following this thread hoping some "real" fix will show up. So far, all i see are suggested tweaks and video card adjustments. I like Xplane a lot. I have all the versions from 9 and up. And i keep buying xplane because i like to see two real viable competitors in the flight sim arena for us armchair guys. But this unusually dark cockpit thing is going to be a deal breaker for me going forward if laminar doesn't acknowledge it and provide a better solution. The <other> sim may be too bright for purists, but I've flown in multiple aircraft in real weather conditions night and day and xplane12 is just too dark.
  2. ok, so where are these turbulence settings that one can adjust ? The only mention of turbulence or gust upset i could find related to camera shake which is turned on ?
  3. So in Houston, we've been windy blustery out of the SE which means in all planes, you get jostled around a bit, especially in single engine planes. But none of the planes I've tried in real weather show any unusual movement in these weather conditions. Am I missing a real weather setting or a realism setting in the aircraft model?
  4. ok...first....apologies to all first responders. The selection of external chase and then the numpad assignment did finally work. I don't know if i was rushing the procedure or just didnt' put in the numpad keystrokes correctly, but i was able to just now get the external view assigned to the numpad quick views as before in xplane 11. Many thanks to all who responded. Jim
  5. sorry....should have been clear. This works fine on Xplane11. But does NOT work on Xplane 12. Jim
  6. thanks, I'll give your chase view a go and see what happens
  7. I've saved a couple of quickview cockpit views by using Ctrl+numpad value (Ctrl+3 numpad for example) and these work well, but I don't know how to add an external view to the numpad ? When I select an external view and then mod it to what I want to save and use the same Ctrl+ numpad, nothing is saved. Am I missing something ? Jim
  8. Just tried the approach RNAV32 into KBUF with the cj4 and got the dreaded " connection lost ". Just maintained course as if nothing happened and the landing was uneventful. Sure hate that " lost connection " thing, though. Love the snowy weather and low vis for IFR simulation. Jim
  9. thanks for the spacebar suggestion. It does level the horizon but it also recenters the view which, for me, is nearly as annoying as the horizon tilt in the first place. But do appreciate the suggestions.
  10. Just did a short hop from Reno to Salt Lake. When using the drone view, the view gradually rolls and doesn't stay horizontal. Is there a workaround for this ? Then, flying IFR, on descent to Salt Lake, ATC asks for altitudes of 9000 to 10000 every 5-10 seconds. Sometimes 9300, sometimes 9400, other times back to 10.000. This occurs repeatedly until the controller hands me off to approach. Not a deal breaker, but definitely kills the "immersion". Any workaround for this ?? Great sim overall though
  11. Since I've just begun to really fly xplane12 the "issue" I'm talking about here may be my settings or lack of understanding regarding screen setup. I flew the Airbus 330? this morning and the first thing i noticed was how "fuzzy" the cockpit controls were, almost like my old 1080 monitor used to be before moving up to my current 2560 x 1440 monitor. I was really surprised and a little underwhelmed. Is there a setting that I'm missing or is this just the way the aircraft is modeled?
  12. thanks for the suggestions. whatever has happened has removed the joystick settings. whenever i remove the usb and then reattach, it gives me the option to ignore or setup as a new device. So all the presets that I had put in to start with are gone. I've re-assigned the "new" joystick the same settings as before and so far it appears to retain them. I just thought it an odd coincidence that up until the last update followed shortly by the installation of xplane 12 that suddenly all the previous settings dissappeared. Guess we'll see in a few more days how things sort out. Thanks again for all the help.
  13. I have an odd development in my stock installtion of msf2020. I'm not sure how long this has been going on, but today I started msf2020, loaded up a simple 152 and went flying. I noticed that my trim buttons on the joystick weren't working. Paused the sim and go to control assignments and where the joystick image with the control buttons numbered used to be, now there's just a black and white question mark. Stopped and started the computer up and restarted msf2020 with the same thing. So...here's the question. I just recently installed Xplane 12. The control assignments in that sim work fine. Has Xplane 12 somehow hijacked or corrupted msf2020 joystick profile/assignments ?? Before I start the delete/add routine I though I'd check here and see if anyone else has seen this ? Thanks
  14. The only thing that really really annoys me is the lack of artificial "horizon line" control like we had in fsx using Q or Ctrl+Q. I've tried various suggested fixes modifying the camera views, but none are as easy or effective as the old fsx command
  15. Thanks Mike. I just watched a short video on this custom view thing and that may very well be what I end up doing. There just doesn't seem to be an easy way to pitch the horizon up or down like there was in fsx. Thanks for the suggestion. Jim
  16. Thanks for the suggestions Bobcat, but the only control that so far helps in any way, is the spacebar command. That does actually raise and lower the horizon line slightly
  17. The spacebar does help a little, but it doesn't give anywhere near the actual control that we had with the Ctrl+Q or Q. The closest thing we currently have is the drone pitch control mentioned at the beginning. That's what I'm looking for but in the cockpit view.
  18. In FSX we had a keyboard command ctrl+Q or Q that artificially raised or lowered the horizon line relative to the pilots view over the cockpit panel. Is there a setting in the cameras.cfg (or available directly from keyboard) that replicates this in MSF2020 ? I took the standard default 172 and tried just modifying the eyepoint setting, but that doesn't give the same visual that moving the horizon line in FSX did. On the keyboard keypad, pressing 2 or 8 raises or lowers the horizon line nicely for the drone view. That's the horizon control i'm looking for but in the cockpit view. Jim
  19. Thanks Richard, Once I created and loaded a flight, then I could access the approach plates. Thanks for your suggestion. That pointed me in the right direction to get the charts to display Jim
  20. Apologies if this is a previously asked/answered question. I have the full subscription to navigraph and have the charts app installed. But there do not appear to be any ifr approach plates. Am I missing something or does navigraph not provide this service ? Jim
  21. Hi Glenn Can you check your link for the profile ? I'm not able to make it work. Thanks ! Jim
  22. I have a 10" tablet that I can use via wifi software to act as a second display for windows 10. What I would like to do is put the outside view on the smaller 10" screen and leave the standard monitor for the instrument panel. Is it possible to send separate views to separate devices like this ? Jim
