  1. Cheers - not planning on having more than 1 card in SLI arrangement.
  2. I took the plunge and bought the bundle about an hour ago :) I currently have a 700W PSU, will this be adequate?
  3. Arjen, Thanks so much for your speedy and informative post, most appreciated. This is the bundle I'm considering: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-092-OE but opting for an i7-2700K and 8Gb RAM. This is the graphics card out of interest: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-094-GI Good job they offer 'buy now, pay in 12 months' otherwise the wife will have a coronary :) Cheers again. 4. Hi there, I've not posted on here for a while now but I'm after some advice on upgrading my computer. My current specs are in my signature but thinking of ditching AMD in favour of Intel. I've been looking at overclocked bundles online and have seen an i7-2700K OC'd to 4.6Ghz, with 8GB RAM. That said, I've also been looking at another overclock bundle elsewhere which offers the Intel i7-3820 CPU OC'd to 4.5Ghz also with 8GB RAM. Price-wise, very similar. I'm also on the verge of buying a GTX560 '448' as I've seen one on special offer this week only - reduced to £167.99. I've read on here and elsewhere that there isn't much difference between the 2700K and 3820 in terms of performance, however, considering my current system, will there be a difference between the two for me? Especially in terms of running FSX. Any advice given will really be appreciated. Cheers, Adam.
  5. Tell me about it, Ron. What as task I'd chosen, I didn't realise how many great products there are available. In the end, after much deliberation and thought, I went for the Carenado CT210 Centurion. I did a relatively quick flight from Banff to Golden in it and was impressed at the exterior and interior - very detailed and looks great not to mention how good it is on the frames as well. I also did a quick flight around the Edmonton area and again, frames held well and NRM scenery really clear and detailed. Just what I wanted. Thanks for your advice gents, much appreciated.Ad
  6. Cheers Danny.I really am impressed by the Carenado C337H and the CT210M Centurion. Just been watching some videos on You Tube and really like what I see.
  7. Thanks for the replies so far.I was looking at the Orbx Lancair IV-P - the 33% off is a tempter. Though I'm sorely tempted with the Carenado Cessna C340 II HD as well.Argh, I'm torn, as you can imagine! Does anyone have much experience with the Lancair? I was thinking I could go for this as it is that bit cheaper than the C340 and possibly go for this one at a later date.Ad Excellent advice :) you've just blown my plans out the water lol
  8. Hi there,Whilst waiting for Orbx NRM to download to complement PNW, I was thinking it was about time I bought a light aircraft rather than using the poor default aircraft for low and slow flight. Can anyone recommend something? I've been looking at Carenado as I see a lot of good stuff about them but unsure of which aircraft is best.I don't have much of a criteria, I think I'd prefer retractable landing gear, single or two engined I'm not too fussy on that score. Something better than default and easy on the FPS if possible.Any advice would be gratefully received.Cheers,Adam
  9. Thanks for your reply Don and the link to NickN's guide to Nvidia Inspector.I have just completed a circuit in the MD-11 from Geneva and very pleased with the results. Visibility is much better, blurries are few and far between the criss-cross grid has gone. I get around 20-25FPS which is much better than my previous FSX install.Best wishes to everyone at Christmas and for 2012.Adam
  10. Hi Jim and Boeing247,Thanks for your replies.I did have nHancer 2.5.9 installed as per NickN's guide but wasn't terribly keen on the ingame looks. I have the nVidia control panel which came with the drivers for my graphics card, I also have inspector but I don't particularly know what to do with these. If you can recommend how I could use these or point me in the direction of some good instructions, I'd be very grateful. I am using Trilinear filtering in FSX with anti-aliasing enabled.I load FSX using the bat file created by the frame rate limiter. The screenshots don't really show up the grid too well; it's a diagonal grid. If you look at the original size here you'll see it across the green and the runway. In this screenshot from the air, you can see they go all the way through the FSDT scenery. The concrete tiles on the taxiway are supposed to be there, so not complaining about those :)I'll have a look at FSXBooster, I had contemplated it in the past but read about some negative issues that it gave some users. These issues have probably been ironed out since. Thanks again,Adam
  11. I know the title is a bit vague but I've a few queries, so if anyone can find the time to help me, it'd be much appreciated.I've recently done a clean install of FSX having overclocked my CPU for the first time, not much but I'm still getting the hang of it, 3.2 to 3.6. I've also bought another hard drive which is now solely for FSX. My FSX.cfg file has been processed by Bojote's tweaking tool and at the moment, I'm doing a bit of testing. Using PMDG MD-11 and FSDT Geneva as a base, I've noticed a few things I'm not sure how to remedy.1) There is a criss-cross grid appearing at Geneva airport. How would I get rid of these? Screenshot 1 and screenshot 5. Links I've posted are to my Flickr account.2) There's still a subtantial amount of blurriness, my settings in FSX are quite high, however I would expect to see better textures when approaching GVA. See screenshot 2 & screenshot 3. Any ideas on this one?3) Is there a particular way to get rid of the high bloom from AI aircraft landing lights? Initially I thought there was a problem and I was seeing 2 suns! See screenshot 4.4) As per Bojote's recommendations, I have the internal FPS in FSX set at unlimited and have FPS locked at 30 using the external software. However, the FPS still jumps from 20s to above 30 and back again. Is this just normal or should it be relatively steady?I increased the LOD_Radius from 4.5 to 6.5 and it didn't make much difference apart from impacting on the FPS. As I've said, my in game settings are set relatively high so would've thought blurries shouldn't be much of a problem.I can provide additional details of settings or my FSX.cfg if this would be of use?Season's Greetings.Adam
  12. I thought it was the other way round? I'm happy to be proved wrong though as I've not yet fully installed all my add-ons.I've installed GEX, then UTX, then I'm sure there's a UTX upgrade feature in GEX.Or am I doing the long winded route when I should install UTX, then GEX and enable both install options including UTX?Adam
  13. I have just reinstalled FSX because I've just bought a SATA3 64Mb cache 750Gb HDD which I've dedicated solely for FSX use. I was getting fed up of such dire performance and couldn't OC my computer with the stock fan so bought a new cooler too.I have never followed NickN's guide before so read it and took the bare bones from that and decided to do the following:Install FSX and Acceleration, then GEX, then UTX and then other scenery, finishing with aircraft. I don't have use software such as FSPassengers etc though once I get FSX running as I like it, I may invest.I have still to finish installing scenery as I started last night but as NickN said, reboot in between installs. So far so good, however, there's still plenty of tweaking to be done as I've still a fair amount of blurries. I did a flight into FSDT Geneva last night with a default aircraft and whilst performance is good, I'm not overly happy with how the textures look.Hope this offers some help or insight.Adam
  14. I must admit I've been hankering for some of the other FSDT airports and knew if I waited long enough, a sale might occur. This is my lucky day :)My last acquisition was by Fly Tampa, Tampa Intl reworked but that slows FSX down unbelievably.Adam
  15. Hey,I've just received an email notification to say FSDT and Cloud 9 are having a sale during May.30% off FSDT and 40% off Cloud 9.Sale ends May 19th.See http://www.fsdreamte...hp?topic=4298.0 for more details.Adam
  16. I guess I've become too familiar with the default PAPI/VASI lights.I'll give the tweaks a go and see how I get on.Many thanks for all you suggestions.Adam
  17. Evening all,I've been doing some manual landing practice in the PMDG MD-11 recently, mostly at Geneva. What I've noticed is the PAPI lights aren't very bright at all - barely visible in fact, as can be seen in the screenshot. I've just done a test around Manchester and the PAPI lights are visible from miles out. I'm using FSDT Geneva and UK2000 Manchester. Is there any way of rectifying this so the PAPI lights at Geneva are brighter? Thanks in anticipation.Adam
  18. Hi Jim,Many thanks for your informative post.I've been running REX 2.0 since 2009 without any problems, in fact, I'd been running it on a less powerful machine prior to upgrading earlier this year. I did think my machine was quite good - 3.2Ghz quad core, 4Gb RAM, 1Gb GPU and all that. I have researched overclocking but it's not something I feel too comfortable with so leaving that aspect of improving the speed of my computer alone.I thought i'd give REX Overdrive a try since it's release, I may consider uninstalling this to see it's effect, if any. It just seems a bit odd that these problems have appeared since the installation of FSPX. I had installed the FSPX demo earlier in the year but had similar problems, uninstalled it and in the end, had to faff with my FSX installation to get it right. For now though, I'll update my .NET framework to v4 and see how this impacts- don't particularly know much about .NET and it's use.Again, thanks for your help Jim, most appreciated.Kind regards,AdamEDIT: Just checked my Programs list and it says v4.0 of the Microsoft .NET framework is installed. I'll remove it and reinstall.
  19. Hi there,Well, I had FSX running smoothly for a while now, that was until I decided to try out FSPassengersX again (demo).I then experienced crashes to desktop saying FSX had done a fatal error and was restarting. I have since uninstalled FSPX and won't even consider buying it, yet the errors still continue. I had a few last night, the most annoying was just as I was about to finish flying a STAR to land at Geneva! I get the fatal error message and then another error message box appears with the code '0xC000014B'. It allows me to view the error log in detail, which I've attached to this post in the hope someone can decipher it and advise what is causing the problems. I thought i'd give FSX another go just now and as I reached the runway to take off, I accidentally hit the keyboard shortcut for 'Save a flight' instead of ATC. It brought up the box to save a flight, which I cancelled. It then hung and crashed. It seems that the crashes I'm experiencing relate more to the accessing of menus from within the game. However on my last crash, an error came up regarding Smart Assembly (?)."This feature requires that {smartassembly} is available on this computer" - not sure what this relates to either??I have the HIGHMEMFIX=1 tweak added to my FSX file; the only other recent changes made to my FSX installation is the update of Amsterdam X scenery from v1 to v1.03 and also I've added REX Overdrive.Any help would be most appreciated as all these errors are getting me frustrated beyond belief!Adam.P.S. Just tried uploading the Notepad file I'd created with the error log in it but it won't let me attach it to my post so am pasting it below:====0xC000014BSee the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.************** Exception Text **************System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0xC000014B): Exception from HRESULT: 0xC000014Bat System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ThrowExceptionForHRInternal(Int32 errorCode, IntPtr errorInfo)at Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect.SimConnect.ReceiveDispatch(SignalProcDelegate pfcnSignal)at Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect.SimConnect.ReceiveMessage()at rexwxengine2.controls.ucLoadAircraftLocation.DefWndProc(Message& m)at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WndProc(Message& m)at System.Windows.Forms.ScrollableControl.WndProc(Message& m)at System.Windows.Forms.ContainerControl.WndProc(Message& m)at System.Windows.Forms.UserControl.WndProc(Message& m)at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.OnMessage(Message& m)at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.WndProc(Message& m)at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam) ************** Loaded Assemblies **************mscorlibAssembly Version: 2.0.0.0Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.4952 (win7RTMGDR.050727-4900)CodeBase: file:///C:/Windows/Microsoft.NET/Framework/v2.0.50727/mscorlib.dll----------------------------------------rexwxengine2Assembly Version: 2.5.2010.32992Win32 Version: 2.5.2010.0820CodeBase: file:///C:/Program%20Files%20(x86)/Real%20Environment%20Xtreme%202.0/rexwxengine2.exe----------------------------------------System.Windows.FormsAssembly Version: 2.0.0.0Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.4927 (NetFXspW7.050727-4900)CodeBase: file:///C:/Windows/assembly/GAC_MSIL/System.Windows.Forms/2.0.0.0__b77a5c561934e089/System.Windows.Forms.dll----------------------------------------SystemAssembly Version: 2.0.0.0Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.4927 (NetFXspW7.050727-4900)CodeBase: file:///C:/Windows/assembly/GAC_MSIL/System/2.0.0.0__b77a5c561934e089/System.dll----------------------------------------System.DrawingAssembly Version: 2.0.0.0Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.4927 (NetFXspW7.050727-4900)CodeBase: file:///C:/Windows/assembly/GAC_MSIL/System.Drawing/2.0.0.0__b03f5f7f11d50a3a/System.Drawing.dll----------------------------------------Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnectAssembly Version: 10.0.61259.0Win32 Version: 10.0.61637.0 (FSX-Xpack.20070926-1421)CodeBase: file:///C:/Windows/assembly/GAC_32/Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect/10.0.61259.0__31bf3856ad364e35/Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect.dll----------------------------------------msvcm80Assembly Version: 8.0.50727.4927Win32 Version: 8.00.50727.4927CodeBase: file:///C:/Windows/WinSxS/x86_microsoft.vc80.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.4927_none_d08a205e442db5b5/msvcm80.dll----------------------------------------System.XmlAssembly Version: 2.0.0.0Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.4927 (NetFXspW7.050727-4900)CodeBase: file:///C:/Windows/assembly/GAC_MSIL/System.Xml/2.0.0.0__b77a5c561934e089/System.Xml.dll----------------------------------------System.ConfigurationAssembly Version: 2.0.0.0Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.4927 (NetFXspW7.050727-4900)CodeBase: file:///C:/Windows/assembly/GAC_MSIL/System.Configuration/2.0.0.0__b03f5f7f11d50a3a/System.Configuration.dll----------------------------------------System.DataAssembly Version: 2.0.0.0Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.4927 (NetFXspW7.050727-4900)CodeBase: file:///C:/Windows/assembly/GAC_32/System.Data/2.0.0.0__b77a5c561934e089/System.Data.dll----------------------------------------************** JIT Debugging **************To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for thisapplication or computer (machine.config) must have thejitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section. The application must also be compiled with debuggingenabled. For example:<configuration><system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" /></configuration>When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exceptionwill be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computerrather than be handled by this dialog box.
  20. Thanks for the clarification Bryan, much appreciated.Adam
  21. I came to the same conclusion last night.I'd used the demo of FSPassengers a few months ago but my FSX kept on crashing and performing fatal errors, especially when accessing the menus. I uninstalled it, got it all working nicely again and was enjoying FSX without fatal errors.I decided to re-install FSP over the weekend and all was ok however last night, during a cabin announcement, the sound continued to play put the sim froze and eventually produced a fatal error, resulting in FSX restarting. I'm glad this is the demo and I hadn't bought the full product; it'll be coming off my computer for good today.I too would be interested to hear of other similar products; I only tend to fly the PMDG MD-11. What I like about FSP is that it rates your flight, has a 'company' mode and other clever features. I suspect FS2Crew is only cockpit announcements and checklists?Adam
  22. I've just seen this on the BBC news website about Intel's latest development of merging graphics processing with the CPU into one chipset.http://www.bbc.co.uk...nology-11280200It's the first I've heard of this sort of technology but i'm sure there are plenty out there who already knew about such goings ons.It made me wonder though about the impact this sort of hardware would have on FSX.Adam
  23. Many thanks, Guenter! I'll make the necessary changes to my fsx.cfg file.I've read most of these tweak threads before but I just didn't think my problem was down to them. I've messed around with my fsx file quite a few times, resorted back to old ones, re-edited etc and I guess along the way, that tweak has been removed.Adam
  24. Evening all,Due to recent holidays and ongoing kitchen renovations I've not flown a proper flight in FSX for around a month now. As I had some spare time on my hands this evening, I decided to take a very short flight from Manchester to Edinburgh, mainly to reacquaint myself with the FMC.All was going well, I was held at 5000ft in the SID out of Manchester so decided to nip downstairs and make a drink for the wife and I; no, she wasn't my co-pilot lolI came back to find the graphics had gone slightly crazy, with the virtual cockpit going transparent in places, as you can see from the screenshots. All the external views were fine, as was the 2D cockpit. It was just the virtual cockpit and alternate views of it that were like this. As the 2D panels were fine, I continued my flight and landed at Edinburgh without a hitch. I know it's a long shot but does anyone have any ideas as to why this might've occured? I'm open to any comments on this as it's new to me. I've not messed around with my FSX set up recently nor have I touched my hardware. Thanks in advance.Adam.
  25. Hi Bill,I too install using method 2; never had problems with this way.Adam
