  1. Yeah. I did the clean install option on the previous drivers I had (260.99) and now everything is back to normal. I don't I will update the drivers again if/until I run into problems.
  2. Hi, sorry if the thread title is confusing but I didn't know what to name it. Anyway just upgraded my drivers last night and when starting FSX today I greeted with shimmering overload. I checked NvidiaInspector and downloaded the latest version of that (1.9.5.4) and applied the AA/AF settings provided by Ryan/NickN but still had no AA/AF in FSX. Do I have to enable AA/AF in the Nvidia control panel for it to work in FSX now or what do I do? Thanks in advance :)
  3. Hey! Just got back to flying the MD11 after break of studying (and I have to admit, playing some other games as well :(). Anyway the problem I have is that the engine/wind noise when flying, especially on final/low altitude is stuttering, or stopping. Very annoying. Its hard to explain but the sound is crackling or stuttering. I've checked DPC latency and it seems to be normal (50-100us). The only addon I'm using that is influencing the MD11 is Fs2Crew. EDIT: I only seem to have this problem on saved flights where I used Fs2crew in the original flight. Thanks in advance
  4. About the coach class discussion: being a lowly student I couldn't dream of getting the cash to fly first class/business but there is a different between coach and coach. For example here in Europe you can fly on low-price jets like ryan air and really be treated like cattle or you can pay a little extra to get at least some form of comfort on the normal airlines like KLM, DLH, SAS etc. But i guess that over time these airlines will have to reduce the "frills" to be able to compete with the low price carriers.Just my 2 cents :)
  5. Am i missing something? Ferd's linguistic abilities seems to have sky-rocketed over the next 3 years after his famous (or infamous?) post, at least in comparison.
  6. Did he ever post in any other threads? Or was he a one-hit-wonder? :D
  7. I think that would be a bit harsh, but the guy clearly showed that the hashed lines are more suited to describe himself.
  8. Almost sounds like you're talking about another aircraft PMDG has made, the MD11
  9. Ethan, i'd love to have a look at your Rex Profile, if im allowed ;)
  10. Yes, thats the one i mean :D. Really hope they implement it as it would have a big effect, imo, on handflying. Right now the engine N1 might be at 70% while my throttle is at a completely different setting, making a transition less stable.Credit goes to Eric Szczesniak for coming up with the ingenious idea.
  11. I remember the first time i played a flight simulator on my own computer, it was FS 2004. I had this obsessive goal of completing all the lessons before i would go on to bigger planes (never did them all but most of them). I usually set these kinds of goals for myself which sometimes helps, and sometimes makes something fun become boring haha :D Anyway the Student Pilot lessons were pretty great imo, and i remember Rod Machado talking about trimming for an airspeed and using power to controll the descent rather than pitch, and you are right everything became so much easier (if you were successful at trimming which is not always so easy in a sim). But moving on to bigger and more complex airplanes such as PMDG/LDS i found that i used the autothrottle alot until very late in the final because of the limited realism of throttles, which doesnt move and make it harder to "pick up" where the autothrottles left the power, when disconnecting A/T.I guess relying alot on the A/T to control the power limits your control and prevents you from using the throttles to control pitch, you only have control of the yoke when A/T is engaged, afterall. With the, hopefully, implemented N1% indication of your outside-of-sim throttles on the NGX that might change.EDIT: with throttles (bolded) i mean the HID-throttles that you use outside of the sim, not anything inside FSX.
  12. What kind of bad habits? Anything you should watch out for if your ambition is to become a commercial and/or private pilot?
  13. Great, thanks! I guess i'll have to pick up my credit card then ;)
  14. Guys sorry if this is a little OT but i just found out that FTX Australia SP3 can be bought for 50% off. Usually these sorts of offers come when a company is about to release an upgrade. I searched for SP4 and it seems to be about to be released (?). You think its a good idea to buy SP3, or should i wait for the next version?
  15. I was talking about the Sandy bridge Enthusiast CPU (Socket 2011), not gulftown. The cheapest ones are (rumoured) to cost about 400USD, 6 cores (price range of the LGA 2011 will be from 400-1000, or so i've heard, the highend at 8 cores/16 threads) No way in hell would i spend 600USD more, getting something that is marginally better ;). They might all be overkill, only time will tell. Anyway thats in Q3-4 of 2011 and Ms Flight might have been released by that time and shown to be more GPU dependant than CPU, who knows..Probably by the time i feel my i7 system is ready to be upgraded the Ivy bridge (22nm) will have come out.
  16. Look at 0:15 in this . I think what Holgi is referring to are the white rings on the ND.
  17. IF (big if) i upgrade my system, im not gonna buy the i7 2600K, but the Hexacore i7 Enthusiast (or Extreme if the bang-for-buck factor is reasonable), i.e LGA 2011. Seems pretty stupid for me spending 500+ USD on upgrading my Enthusiast range CPU to a newer Performance range CPU. But i've heard rumours of the LGA 2011 being for servers so i guess its too early to decide anything. Anyway i know way too little right now to decide for myself let alone give advice to anyone else so take my post with a grain of salt :)
  18. I am like another fellow posting a couple of pages before me, an audiophile and to me the sounds is infinitely more important than the visual quality of games in general and FSX in particular. I asked before about the sound of the landing gear being extended/retracted (and the wheels spinning? at 0:55) Any comfirmating/denial of whether we'll hear something similar in the NGX? Also what is the vibrating sound that is heard immediately before and after liftoff? Doesnt seem to be cause by a bad runway as you can hear it after the mainwheels have lift off.Anyway one thing i feel haven't been performed realistically yet in FSX is the wind sound decrease with higher altitude, is this possible to implement? You can hear it later in the video i posted.
  19. You are right. The intentional "hard" center is still there though, which was the most annoying thing for me.
  20. I recently bought a Saitek Pro Flight Yoke system and before that i've had a CH Yoke. I can't give any opinions on the Joysticks but my experiences with the Saitek has not been very well. Now this is only me and others might have had other experiences, but after trying to use the Saitek for a couple of weeks i finally gave up and returned to my CH Yoke. Although Saitek is more robust (when it comes to the Yoke, I've heard the opposite about the joysticks, but don't take my word for it) and has more buttons, and has a better throttle (longer range of motion, you can put it where you want and it has buttons), it has a very strange stiff center of pitch and aileron. What i mean is that when turning the yoke from left then center and over to the right it wants to stick in center. This feels very strange, and feels unrealistic (according to my very limited experience of the real thing) and also makes it hard to do those small corrections on final approach. The same thing is true about the pitch, it wants to stick to the center. This has the advantage of making it easier to trim the airplane to a certain airspeed/pitch but makes it harder to follow the flight director on takeoff for example where you might need to lower the nose briefle for thrust reductions or speed increase. It also, again makes it harder to do small inputs in pitch on final approach. It seems that this has been experienced by other people. (Google search)And i have also read about it in a thread where people had the exact problem. I have also had the problem of the yoke being sticky while in motion, mostly in roll, but also in pitch, i read that this might have to do something with the internal stick being of teflon. When returning to the CH Yoke i was reliefed to see that my "stick-and-rudder" skills were not so bad as the Saitek Yoke had made me believe. Again this is only my experience and although as i said i've seen others with the same problems we might be in a small minority...The CH Yoke ofcourse has its own quirks and bugs, the biggest is that the pitch-center is too "loose" instead and makes it harder to trim the airplane, still i'd much rather have this problem than jerking around in the sky like i were trying to fly a tank..Lastly, if i were you, i'd give the Yokes a shot, whether it be a Saitek or a CH, if boeing/MD airliner flying is your primary focus of FSX. It makes it alot easier, and more realistic to fly the iron, so to say.
  21. Thanks Ryan! Now i just need to find a similarily sized TFT...
  22. Seems like my earlier post about small 8'' (circa) TFT screens were lost in the plethora of posts in this thread. Anyone know how big (height, width) a real 737NG glass PFD is?
  23. I've been wondering about something, (think i've heard it here but wanted to make sure) Is it possible to view the PFD/ND on a separate screen? If so, i have some questions:1. What size/aspect/resolution is the real 737NG PFD screen in? 2. Are there any recommended small TFT-screens that suits as a PFD? I don't need anything fancy, its not like im gonna play crysis or watch movies on it; i just want it to show a convincing PFD. (without the need for total reliability and something that only needs to match 10 year old hardware, that shouldn't be too expensive, right?)When using the TrackIR it would be nice to have the PFD "steady", then i wouldn't need to keep my head so stiff.
