  1. Hi! Before the NGX comes out im thinking about upgrading my computer a little. Im no noob ;) but im surpassed by a lot of you in terms of computer literacy here on the pmdg forums so i thought this would be the right place to ask.My current spec is as follows: E8500 3.3 (OC) 4gb DDR2 RAM, MSI P45 NEO-F mobo (budget but has suited me so far) 4870 1gb, Corsair 550W PSU, 2 HD's (1tb, 1 250gb) and a SB soundcard.FPS in fsx are quite varying from up to 60 in cruise and down to 10-15 in Aerosoft EHAM with 50% ai (WOAI) all in the 747. MD11 is maybe 5fps better in the most demanding situations and the js4100 is, well i never really looked because it ran so smooth but i guess maybe up to 10fps better than 744x.What would be the most bang for the buck upgrade i could do that would make a visible difference but not cost over say 500 euro? I live in sweden where it is quite expensive because retailers here seem to think that the dollar is worth 10 sek (about 10 sek). Can you get cheaper prices from other places in europe? Also if i would upgrade to an i7 it would mean i have to upgrade my motherboard and maybe also have to get a stronger PSU (although the corsair i have is pretty highend, or so ive heard) And would it make a justifiable difference?Any help and advice is appreciated, thanks! :)
  2. Yeah I found a site that explained it, and also said that you can divide the TAS by 10 and add 7 to it to get the bank required. But i didnt know the autopilot did that automatically, thanks!
  3. When you say standard rate turn what does that mean? can it be translated to degrees of bank?I thought this was a procedure turn but if its not, then what does a real procedure turn look like? Thanks
  4. Hi, i recently bought the Aerosoft mega airport amsterdam for fsx and when i flew the approach into EHAM i had a little trouble following the ILS approach. In navigraph for ILS27 it says that i should fly from River to SPL then to WP and turn right to trach radial 141 for 1 minute and then turn left to line up with the localizer. Sounds simple but as the ILS approach was broken in the FMC i had to do it manually from WP. Looking at the picture i uploaded of the chart, can someone tell me if i am supposed to follow the 141 radial for 1 minute and then turn or if the turn from 141 to the final approach heading should be 1 minute? Also is there somekind of tool on the PFD (like the turn coordinator in a cessna) that helps me make 1 minute turns or 2 minute turns etc?For example if i should follow the 141 for 1 minute and then turn is there a rule for how much i should bank to get back on localizer or is experience the only tool i have?
  5. I guess this isn't the answer you are searching for, but can't you cheat? What i mean is that you check what torque % will hit the lower white mark and then give that to the FO? I don't own FS2C for js4100 but if i understood you correctly and you can set a torque limit that could solve your problem (although maybe a bit unrealistic)
  6. May i ask how you thought this would be relevant to the discussion?
  7. Hi, im having this problem as well, and it is really a shame because the first time i played the tutorial i felt this is it! The micro-managing operation of a plane like this (the prop rpm is one example) is really something that i favour a lot. Anyway i found a semi-/temporary fix to this: when doing the tutorial for J41 (and MD11 as well) i saw that alt-tabbing was not always working to get fsx in full screen and it seemed to make the flickering textures problem appear. When i instead alt-enter to make fsx into windowed mode it doesn't happen nearly as often, im quite sure even that i haven't experienced it while doing just that.My two cents.
  8. Thanks, ill try the tips right now. Im running FSX btw. The yoke im using is from CH, and although you can download a calibration software its too complex for my patience.
  9. Hi, yes mine is the registered one. About the yoke not being moved all the way, well yes its not too realistic but at the same time having very jerky movements isn't either. The only other things i can think of that would resolve the issue is to change the amount of aileron input in the aircraft itself, and wouldn't know how to do that. Strange thing is that there seems to be a sort of slope as default, i dont know if you can see the same thing (if u have yoke/joystick) but at first the fsx-yoke is turned in synch with the hardware yoke but maybe halfway through it speeds up alot so if you do half-fast yoke turns especially from left-center-right in one continous turn it will jerk even more.Anyway i tried setting the center deadzone and it seemed to work pretty good although it made the respones on one side very slow. Easiest way to explain it is to say the actual numbers: before configuration the center was at 1800-2000 (with positive being to the left and neg to the right) but when i centered it wasn't in a 1/1 relation to the output anymore so somewhere it got this irritation slope thingy when it jumps from say 3000-5000 in 1 degree of a turn. I would appreciate it if you wanted to make a try with the fix, if possible. Maybe 75% for example so instead of it going 0-16000+/- it only topped at 12000+/- or maybe even 50%, i have no idea what works best. Anyway all help is appreciated, thanks.
  10. In Vroute i can chose a primary and secondary (automatic after the farthest one that was auto generated) alternate and if i then export the flightplan to a pdf-document i usually have a route to each alternate from my destination already set up. It wont be in the fmc but its usually just a direct and then maybe one VOR/segment of an airway. Edit: Bah, my whole edit got deleted when i pressed the wrong button, but isn't it possible to just change the destination of the active route and then input the necessary stars and approaches?
  11. Hi, although this question is about hardware or more specifically the Ch Yoke i have i want to ask it here, because frankly the only thing i fly is pmdg stuff so i thought i'd get an answer here that is usable on those specific airplanes.I've been trying to get my yoke perfect for quite some time and haven't really bothered to get help here on avsim, but as i've searched every where on internet and here on avsim im finally gonna ask it.As most of you know its quite hard to get the real "feel" of a force feedback-less yoke when wanting it to behave like a real one, but you should be able to at least get an accurate "sensitivity" or how much the ailerons/elevators move when i turn the yoke this much etc.I've tried the fsx native sensitivity settings but the only seem to delay the effect of the yoke, and the slope effect in FSUIPC is not really likeable imo because if you turn the wheel enough the airplane wants to "catch up" and the last part of the turn is really aggressive. (you can see this on the "joystick calibration", first the "in" goes to maybe 3000+/- with 0 "out" and then "out" goes from 0 to 3500 (for example) with only 500 more in input. I have found this effect to be "innate" of either fsx or my yoke software without setting any slope, the last 1/3-1/4 of the yoke-turn results in a much larger fsx-control column input.Would there be possible to instead of increasing or decreasing the delay of the input actually decreasing the sensitivity like you do to, for example a mouse? What i mean is instead of the input and output having to be equal when i have reached a full "turn" of the hardware-yoke, the input is 100% but the output was only 50%? No catching up, just a smaller turn in fsx compared to the yoke.Hope you all understand what i mean, oh and before i forget, and this might be too offtopic for the forum section, but is there a way to move the "zero" of the yoke aileron left or right like you do with the calibration wheel for the elevator? My yoke seems to have a left bias so i have to turn it a bit to the right to fly straight, its not much but it gets frustration if you try to fly straight and level without autopilot. Thanks alot for reading, sorry if i bored you, but any help is appreciated! :)
  12. Yeah i figured it was something like that :/ Damn the DP went to 10.7 before landing and just after the Cabin Alt was at 48000 feet :S Can't be healthy for the crew or animals.
  13. Hi, i was just doing a very short cargo hop from LFPG to EDDF when i encountered a (to me) unfamiliar problem.I was maybe 50 miles away from T/D and left the computer for a while certain the pause at T/D would make sure i wouldn't descend before i was back. When i came back however FSX wasn't paused and i was still at FL230 although i had selected 11000 in the alt window. The real problem or emergency rather happend later. Because as i had completely bust through any alt and speed restrictions i thought i'd reload the sim (cheating i know :( ) but when i did that the aircraft was overspeeding alot (might be REX loading new weather) and i had 1 level 3 alert "CABIN ALTITUDE" and 2 level 2 alerts: "CABIN RATE" and "AVNCS FAN OVRD" i checked the SD AIR page and found that the cabin altitude was at -2147, DP (dont know what that is) at -5.9 and rate at -980. I checked the QRH pdf and saw that the correct procedure for this kind of problem would be to close the outflow valves (already done by auto) and verify that the avionics fan were at override (checked)My question is this: What would i do after this to resolve this problem, and most importantly: why did this happen? Btw would like to know if somebody had any problems with the Pause at T/D settings aswell. Thanks
  14. OK, good to know i was wrong and MD11 wasn't :( Thanks
  15. Hi, sorry if this has been posted before, have searched for it but didn't find any posts relating the subject. When i load aircraft cargo/passenger weights on both of the configuration managers they do not stay, i.e when i load the manager again outside of fsx it has zero load eventhough i saved it before. If i have fsx started and the pmdg aircraft chosen the load manager has passenger and cargo weights, but they are never the same as the ones i saved before.Strangely enough it seems like the manager has transferred the weights to FSX as the ZFW i chose in the manager is the same as the one i get in the FMS.If my memory serves me right the weights stayed in the manager when you had saved it, but i might be wrong? So my question obviously is; is this a bug or is it intended? Thanks
  16. Yes, i have gotten the popup about Data Execution Prevention when FSX has crashed sometimes, should i disable DEP for everything or only for FSX?EDIT: i have Avira Antivir (freeware version) and Lavasoft Ad-Aware (also free version) does these suffice for DEP disabling? EDIT2: Strange i don't seem to be able to turn off FSX.exe in the: "turn on DEP for all programs and applications except for those i chose" (translated from non-english vista 64, so the name might not be entirely correct) Was this what you meant David?
  17. What do you mean by "DEP", whats that? :( Also i read somewhere that people would get problems on long flights because of switching windows/menus or something like that, may this be the problem?Something i forgot to tell you was that i had saved the flight when i was about 500NM away from T/D and it was after i had loaded the flight again that i had this problem so i hadn't been "flying" for so long. Or maybe that doesn't matter. Thanks for the replies
  18. Hi, sorry if im asking something that has already been answered. I've tried to search for similar topics but the ones i found were only about fatal errors while starting fsx/choosing the aircraft or just after installation. My problem appeared after maybe 10 successful flights on a new fresh install with only 3 addon aircrafts (carenado 150, lds 767 and ofcourse pmdg 747X. I got this problem today after doing a flight from VHHH to KLAX, while i was coming in on final and maybe 10 seconds after a/p disengage (under 1500 feet because of low clouds) the screen froze and i thought it would "get back" again but it stayed that way for maybe 20 seconds and after that i got the "FSX fatal error" (dont remember the exact phrase) it wanted to restart FSX after that but i canceled it, so i dont know if i maybe deleted an error log that would've come.Anyway my specs are as follows: Vista 64bit, FSX sp2, GEX/REX2, UTX, no custom scenery for KLAX except for GEX and UTX. FSUIPC 4.3 registered. I've also edited the FSX.cfg with the MEMFIX=1 to get rid of disappearing aircrafts. And thats pretty much it, reformated the whole computer when i got Vista 64 to get rid of the OOM's; so the OS should be pretty clean.Edit: I also checked the DLL.XML (correct name?) to see if something were wrong with it, but although it looks a little different it is identical to the advice about how PMDGevents, sound etc should be (<Disabled>false<Disabled>) on the three entries. Thanks in advance
  19. Hi, i got two not so related questions about the 747x: When aligning the IRU's i keep getting a problem with the alignment failing if i dont type in the coordinates right after i go off-nav-align on the IRS. I follow the manual to the letter, but they just count down to 1 minute and then disappear instead of 1 and then +0 and 0. If i skip the things between putting the IRU's on align and then setting up the CDU's (ie going directly from aligning to setting it up) I get "warned" off this problem by getting the "fmc msg" sound/alert and the text in the scratch pad telling me to insert coordinates. If i then stop the alignment and retry it there is no problem.Hope you understand me, quite hard to explain exactly. Also it might be helpful if i provide the exactl "flow" in the CDU:First i set up the acars, then press menu and "logoff acars" then i go to init ref and check the ident page, then pos init and set up the IRS by first typing the reference airport and then coping the gps position to the IRS line. When i have copied the GPS pos into the IRS line i get the aural signal and something like "insert IRS" (dont remember the exact message sorry) but the IRS already has the coordinates so i can't insert them again.Second question:This is not a problem but im wondering what sound settings are recommended for the FSX version of 747x. I saw somewhere a picture of the recommender sound settings for the 747 for fs9 (how the sliders should be set) is there a similar recommendation for FSX?Thanks in advance
  20. Wow that was some fast help! I read about this fix on Aerosoft, they said that they had made a small program or something of that sort, would that help me or should i just change the specific value in the FSX.cfg?
  21. Hi, just reformated my computer yesterday to install vista 64 to get rid of the OOM's i was having with all pmdg aircrafts i own with the exception of js41.I haven't had a OOM yet so i think it is working but when flying the 747 i get a strange problem that i could get on the MD11 before when i was using a 32bit windows. If i alt-tab or change things in the controls, or open a window in fsx (like pmdg specific options or other things like that) the aircraft and all models disappear, not just the aircraft outer model but the 2d panel, VC, all views and all buildings, everything except for the ground texture disappears. If i alt tab, or alt-enter fsx and then do random things like alt tabbing/pressing esc, switch to fsx through the task manager i can get the problem to disappear for a while but if i alt-tab/alt-enter or make the screen go black (if i load a new window like checking time, seasons etc) the problem is back. Its not just the models and panels that disappear, the world has graphical issues aswell, it looks a little bit like when a program has frozen and you drag another window over it and the frozen window has its text/colour erased or made white.I have a screenshot of, what i think, is the same issue but even more strange: Some specs and details:FSX SP2 (no acceleration or Deluxe)Pretty clean installation as its only 1 day old but with GEX, UTX and REXComp:Intel Core 2 Duo 8500 3.16x24gb ramAti Radeon HD4870 1GB RAMCreative SB audio card. Thanks in advancePS: now the screen is pitch black (when inside fsx) and i cant seem to make it go back to normal whatever i doPPS: Forgot to say that i checked the task manager and although it said about 70% of the ram was used it also said that about 50MB was left, no idea what that means.
  22. Yeah, its a fun approach, no doubt. I saw what you were talking about now, but the turn was only visible on the ndb-charts. 1300 on MAP, then 940 before the turn, 850 on GELO, follow lead-in lights and then 460 on rosari where you should be on final.
  23. Dan: from what i can see on the charts there are no RNAV stars. When putting in the approach in the fmc (with the FUN12 transition) i was confused because after SNT i would cross abusu and then go to FUN12 and then to abusu again but looking at the chart now i can see there is supposed to be a hold there.I actually cleared that hold in thinking it was just an error so i had to use some speedbrakes to get to FUN7 at 3000 feet. It all seems alot clearer now, thanks :)Michael: I mean't to say papi or more like a virtual glide path when i said GS, but thanks for the tip, i guess i just need more experience. Hand flying a plane like the MD11 it is very hard not to drop in turns like the one before base and then final.
  24. Oh, ok so you never go (this is coming from the north) directly from the IAF to the FAF? (no hold that is)Damn its a hard approach :( Trying to fly it now and i always seem to be off GS or i turn too late.
  25. Hi, the approaches only seem to be named Z and Y in Navigraph. Here are 2 screenshots of the charts for (in order) VORD05 and VORD23:VORD23 (Navigraph.com)VORD05 (Navigraph.com)Hmm, i think i get it now. If i look at the chart for VORD05 the IAF can either be FUN(S) or ABUSU(N) and the MAP is almost abeam the runway threshold. And on VORD23 the IAF's are the same but the MAP is at FUN, am i right? In the second picture i highlighted what i thought was a procedure turn, but its not? Also on VORD05 how would you proceed after the MAP? is there a procedure for this? for example would you go on for a specified amount of time/distance and then turn base?EDIT: i hope im not doing anything illegal by uploading these pictures, if i do please delete them.. (Couldn't find any rules about it except that the program itself is copywritten.)EDIT: the pictures came in the wrong order the first should be RWY23 and then 05.
