  1. I can’t imagine those textures being much of a performance hit, but I will be the first to say that I’m no expert, so that could very well be true! If it was an option, though, whether you wanted to have them or not then there is a potential problem solved. The PMDG 777 has them since those are the kind of seats that are seen on the 777. With the EFB planned to being imported over there, I’m sure PMDG will find a way for performance to be just fine.
  2. Interesting. Ive sat in a sheepskin seat and it was quite comfy! Maybe it is an optional thing, but I just haven't seen any pictures yet of a 747-8 without them.
  3. Dear PMDG staff, I love the new Boeing 747-8. It is a visual wonder and it has been very exciting learning all the new features such as the EFB! I do have one observation, though. It seems that the seats in the flight deck are still carried from the 747-400 and are not the "newer" style, sheep skin seats that seem to be installed on this plane. All the pictures that I have seen of a Boeing 747-8 flight deck seem to have these kind of seats. It's nit-picky I know, and in the grand scheme of things not a huge deal, but if visual accuracy is the end goal then I was wondering if this could be something incorporated in an update? The seats look very similar to what is on the Boeing 777, so I am not sure how hard it would be, or if it would be even possible, to migrate those seat textures from the 777 to the 747-8. Would it be possible to create an option to switch between these newer style seats and the old style, non-sheep skin seats in the PMDG options? If this is all not feasible then that's fine too, but it was just something that I noticed. Again, thank you all for the hard work in bringing this plane to life! Joel
  4. Interesting. I was definitely surprised for it not to be on this plane. PMDG can you confirm this? Yea I love chaseplane but never thought about using it to help me taxi! Might have to give it a go if I start having too many problems with the mains cutting into the grass, but so far so good!
  5. I always assumed that the Boeing 747-8 had taxi cameras like the Boeing 777-300ER. Is this the case? I haven't been able to find it with the PMDG 747-8 so I'm thinking this was very likely my misunderstanding. I'm surprised that Boeing didn't offer it, being that this is such a large, and very long, airplane. In any case, I'm up to the challenge of learning to taxi this beast without the aid of one if need be 😉
  6. All I can say is this is going to be another absolute winner from the PMDG team. Thank you for all you do guys!! Robert, just wondering, will there be an option to switch the seats to a newer style with sheepskin? It looks like at least Lufthansa has them on their 747-8s per pictures online. As a dispatcher and having ridden up front in the flight deck, I can say those sheepskin seats are quite comfy 😉 I am really looking forward to this release! Joel
  7. Hello, Just wondering will we be able to get an assumed temperature for reduced thrust on the performance page section of the EFB?
  8. Hello, New to P3D and noticed that with the "Enable Force Feedback" option checked I am still not getting any of those effects on my joystick such as feeling the bumps when taxiing. I have a Logitech Force3dPro and the force is still there, just not any of the effects. The joystick is from circa 2005 so it is older software as far as the installer goes, so do not know if that could be an issue (it works fine in p3d in every other way though). Did my forces checks when installing the joystick and everything worked. Any thought? Anyone else having the same issue? (if so maybe its a software issue that needs to be fixed in P3D). Thanks, Joel
  9. GOT IT TO WORK!! Seems like my problem was not with my folders or .cfg file but the fact that I was searching for the plane the wrong way in ut2. I was trying to find the model by working through the ut2 selection column and not the FSX selection column. I had watched a tutorial video on youtube and it seemed to be done this way. Thank you AnkH for the detailed explanation on how to find the model in ut2! Thank you everyone for chiming in and trying to help...its much appreciated! If I have any more trouble in the future I'll know where to ask
  10. Thanks for all the help guys!. Can't try this out tonight but should have enough time to try again in a day or two and see where it gets me. I'll let you know where I get and if I still have issues I will try to post screenshots.
  11. For further clarification these are what the first couple of lines look like in the .cfg folder: [fltsim.0] title=AI B738W VOZ sim=FAIB_7378 model=winglets texture=VOZ atc_airline=VIRGIN atc_parking_codes=VOZ atc_parking_types=GATE ui_manufacturer=Boeing ui_type=B737-800W ui_variation=Virgin Australia description=Standard [General] atc_type=BOEING atc_model=B738 editable=0 performance= Category = airplane The lines under the fltsim.0 heading is what I copied and pasted from the texture readme.
  12. Well, still can't figure this out. Don't know why it has to be so difficult because it should be simple, but its not :/ I'm just trying to get some Virgin Australia repaints in the sim. Went to FAIB which I had tried before with no luck, and again downloaded the model. I'm going to explain exactly what I did because maybe I'm missing a minor step. This time I don't even see the model in the ut2 repaints. I downloaded a compressed file called FAIB7378V13. Inside this were a couple of folders. I went to the fsx folder and inside that was a folder titled FAIB_737_800_W. Since I knew I was going to get a repaint for winglets, I copied this into my ut2 folder. I then downloaded the repaint. There was a readme inside this download that talked about how inside the texture folder you will find textures for FSX-DXT5 and FS9-DXT3. Now it doesn't seem so cut and dry when I open this texture folder because what I see in the texture.VOZ folder is a folder titled fs9 and then two texture files by themselves. I'm guessing these two texture files are the ones for FSX? Kind of confusing. Anyways I copied those two texture files and put them into a new folder that I titled texture.VOZ. I then pasted this into the FAIB_737_800_W folder. I then went to change the .cfg file that came with this model and followed just what the readme in the repaint download told me to do. I copied the fltsim.x entry that came with the repaint readme and pasted it into the .cfg folder. The .cfg folder had no previous entries, just a note at the very top that said paste flightsim entries here. So that is what I did, and I renamed the entry fltsim.0. When I went to the ut2 repaint area and selected the 737-800w and Virgin Australia, I didn't even see the FAIB model in the dropdown options. Last night, when I did this I remember seeing the model but not the repaint in the variants dropdown box. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Disclaimer: I'm not super well-versed in repaints, changing .cfg entries, and manipulating folders around. I would say I'm an average joe at this. I've looked at some how to stuff but I feel that some things are briefly mentioned that for a person like me may need a bit more explaining and emphasis. Hopefully from the steps I described above someone can figure out what might be the issue, because I know there are a lot of well-versed people on here Thanks again for helping this newbie out!
  13. Hello all, I'm sure there are some ut2 users on here so here is my problem. I'm wanting to add some repaints to UT2, and even though I believe to be following all the directions, these said repaints are not showing up. For example, I download opensky's 737-800w base model and paste into my ut2 aircraft folder. I also download the specific 737-800 model that the repaint needs and paste it into this base model folder. Then I download the repaint that I want and paste the texture file into this same base model folder. I copy the texture cfg and paste it into the aircraft cfg folder and do everything that the readme file says. Open up ut2 and try to add the repaint, but the only thing I see is the base model livery but no specific repaints. So I'm seeing the model but not the repaint for that model. I'm scratching my head on this one because it should work. Any ideas what the problem may be?
  14. Robert and team, Will SP1 by chance address any of the freezing issues some users have been having? I know its being looked into, but I am just wondering what the status on that issue is. Joel
  15. Thanks for the reply, I will keep asking around but I believe you are right...it makes sense! Joel
  16. Hey ya'll, I just updated PFPX with the most current AIRAC cycle and noticed that it ran through an update of the stored routes after the update. It showed there was 4,000 or so routes out of date. Is it recommended to delete them? Im concerned about losing alot of stored routes if I do this...the count would probably go from 9,000 or so to around 5,000. Joel
  17. I also had a similar problem with Navigraph and the 777 . I just had installed the new data in the PMDG/NAVDATA folder, but when I started my sim the FMC still showed the AIRAC cycle that came with the plane. Looking into it, it seemed that Navigraph made a new subfolder within the NAVDATA folder called 777, and inside this were two folders with the new data, titled Navdata and Sidstars respectively. The old data was still in the basic NAVDATA folder. I deleted these, but the FMC then said that i had no nav data available. I then cut and pasted the new data and put it in the basic folder where the old data originally was and it finally worked. Any reason why the installation made these new subfolders even when I told the Navigraph manager just to put them in the PMDG/NAVDATA folder? Why cant the FMC recognize the new data in these subfolders? I thought this was all automatic but apparently one has to do some cutting and pasting to make it work, all the while manually deleting the old data. Is this a pretty standard procedure? Im new to updating the navigation database so I had no idea what to expect.
  18. I made a previous post about this before, but it seems like when taxiing the 777 I find that I need to keep the N1 at least 23.5% or more to keep the plane moving, and the plane will keep gaining groundspeed. But, lowering the N1 any less will eventually slow the plane down to a stop. There doesn't seem to be much middle ground and it seems that I always have to keep adjusting power to have it at the right speed. How realistic is this? The reason why I'm asking this question is two fold. 1) I was recently talking with a person who was both an FO on the 747 and a captain on the 767 during his career, and he said that you could taxi both planes on idle power once they started to move. I know the 777 is a different plane but you would think that you could do the same with it once it starts to move. 2) I was on a 777-200ER going from Tokyo to Singapore not too long ago, and we taxied what seemed to be on idle in Tokyo. We were crawling because of all the traffic on the ground. If I tried this on the PMDG 777 the plane would eventually come to a stop. It seems like it would be hard to keep it at a speed of 10 kts or less. Maybe its an FSX limitation with the coding on how the plane interacts with the ground, but could anyone chime in who knows how the real B777 taxies and how it compares to the PMDG 777? From what Ive experienced on the plane and from what I've heard something doesn't seem to be quite accurate.
  19. Well that did fix the issue! Switching on the VHF was the trick. I think VATSIM is great...still need to get it on my new computer. But i agree the spread can be limited at times...I rather have something than nothing. Is there any add on for flight Sim that replicates ATC with realistic instructions? That would be something else if an add on came about with realistic ATC that covered that globe...but maybe that's too big an undertaking.
  20. Hello, Ever since I got the 777 it seems that whenever I load the provided panel states from the FMC it is hard to get the default, FSX ATC utility to work properly. The main issues being the when I open up the ATC window and try select any of the options with the numbers on my keypad, they all seem to be stuck. What I mean by this is, you can see the window responding to the keystroke (the line highlighting like its being selected) but it wont go to the next window. I've tried to mainly set the frequencies in the Comms but that doesn't work. If I don't load a panel state it works fine. Suggestions? Thanks, Joel
  21. Looks like I'm bringing life to this topic again! Was about to post about but then saw this thread. I've noticed that I have not heard the 50 foot callout even though I turned it ON in the FMC aircraft options. I hear the other callouts but that one. Thoughts?
  22. Sounds good. I've not actually tweaked my .cfg file at all with the exception of adding a couple of necessary lines (highmemfix for instance). So, I guess my freezes aren't related to that. If I was going to add any kind of tweak to experiment with would you recommend adding affinitymask=14? That and buffer pools are the two things that I seem to keep reading about for tweaking. But, I do see how too much of it can be bad. Hopefully I can figure out what causes those freezes...it only happens in cruise with the PMDG 777. Might have to wait and see what PMDG finds out and in the meantime experiment. Thanks for all the advice...I appreciate it
  23. Interesting. Aren't there some airliners that like to keep moving with idle thrust with an average fuel/payload combo onboard? I could have sworn I heard this somewhere. Maybe I was mistaken and its more of the narrow bodies that do this over the heavies. I don't fly the NGX but can that normally be taxied on idle thrust once it gets going?
  24. Thanks for the advice Jim! I actually already did that uninstall and reinstall of SP2 but I might look at those scenery and indexes files. Exactly what kind of issues would I be seeing with improperly configured terrain.cfg, facilities, and scenery indexes files? Everything is working great...the only thing that is an issue would be my PMDG 777 freezing for around 5 minutes or so during cruise....but this is also being reported by quite a bit of other people. Could that be related to anything being improperly configured? I've heard about the dll.xml file but how exactly do you disable the modules and then enable them through trial and error? Sorry, I'm alright with computers but I am definitely no whiz. Thanks a bunch!
