  1. I was in the air, this hit me very hard, as it was my airline that was one of the two involved. I still remember the ACARS message, and my captain and I trying to figure out what to tell the crew and paxs. I will never forget the many acts of kindness from strangers that day the the week after. In many ways, it was both our lowest and our highest moment not just as a nation, but as the people of this planet. Almost every nation, and all walks of life bonded together as one.
  2. Ken, Sorry, I don't have a pic of the DC-3 that I can find at the moment. Thanks
  3. Stephen, Would AVSIM need the equipment for anything?
  4. Thanks Stephen, Sadly, no... Odd, but have not gotten any response. I will look into donating the equipment to our local school. Regards, Will
  5. Folks, Any advice on who makes a decent JFK and LGA add-on? I have the Aerosoft Manhattan X scnery pack, but looking for additional airport/scenery for this area. Thanks! Wil
  6. LOL! I will have to try that next time it happens.
  7. Thanks, no biggie, it comes with the territory. I will say this, I had the opportunity to fly for Fedex many years ago when I left the Air Force, and not joining them was a major mistake....
  8. Totally different business model... FEDEX can still make money flying the MD-11. It's a lot more profitable to fly cargo than people these days... Which is why my airline is bankrupt and FEDEX makes money.
  9. I can assure you at my airline it was exactly the 3 engine dilema that caused it's demise. In the end, the 777 and 767 offered better economics overall.
  10. MarkII: I've flown with my fair share of captains that presented a challenge to work with in the past, but never to the point where we were not able to focus on the task at hand. I will say this, I have seen a few younger FOs that at times are more focused on playing digital iPhone footsie with an FA than focusing on pre-flight. Usually a calm but firm comment snaps them back to attention. All said, I make sure to let my crew know I value them being there, and that they are a hugely important part of getting the aircraft from Point A to Point B, and that I want their input at all times...
  11. Thanks guys! I'll share some pics from ground school through being released to the line...
  12. Manfred - I think only Airbus pilots feel that way! Sure, I know a few people that have felt this way. I love my job, but the industry is brutal, and it can be easy to get fed up at times... Some guys just bid reserve duty with the hope of a little down time, others leave.... You got it Zach! If nothing else, I'll send you all the Powerpoint stuff so you can study up!
  13. Well, After almost 5500 hours in the 737NG, I'm moving on... It was a tough decision, made easier with a few things that are going on with my airline... Short of my time on the Mad Dog, and the F-111 in the Air Force, I've never been more fond of an aircraft... Well, there were a few years as an FO on the MD-11, but I digress... I'll be moving on to the 757/767, which will net me (I hope) a better long term quality of live based on a few things going on with my airline, and where I am based. So with that, I share a very recent shot when I had the good fortune to bum a ride on FlagShip Detroit (DC-3). Thats the Freedom Tower up ahead. Second pic is of my new office.... Fire away any NG questions you may have, while I still remember things!
  14. Guys, I can tell you, as a former FO on the MD-11, it was a great aircraft, and all of us who flew it, loved the type. My airline replaced it with ETOPS rated 757/767 and in some instances 777 for purely economic reasons, it was never a safety issue at all. It could be a challenge to land at times, but all in all, a great ship that I loved flying.
