  1. Yes -I do both those things- After re reading the manuals for MANY hours yesterday, I finally came across a paragraph that says for the equipment that certain planes have, this is normal for the AP to disconnect just before touchdown- for OTHER equipment?? it is normal for planes to land with the AP on until you take manual control for a taxi- Guess that answers the question-thanks. All those manuals take DAYS to read and I usually fall asleep doing so-with all the abreviations they usually all just go right over my head. Im one of those people who learn better by DOING with HANDS ON rather than reading.I wish someone would invent a TWO PAGE manual (better yet a One page).
  2. Again thanks- I would have posted a png photo of my panel as help but couldnt find anything on this page that would allow me to do so. How does one do so? Carolyn
  3. I have read several times that the autopilot stays on even after touchdown so as to guide the craft down the centerline, however my autopilot on the MD-11 always disconnects just before touchdown approx 50-100 feet above the runway. Somewhere a long while ago I also read that if this happens something is not correct- I cannot find that reference and do not know what is incorrect- everything seems OK on the surface and all landings end up flawless. So?
  4. I found out yesteray shortly after posting my query that manually entering the ILS freq has no bearing on the problem as on my next flight I got the green box OK- then wouldnt you know it- I reran the same exact flight from a save I did halfway through the flight -did everything EXACTLY the same on the approach ,and never got the green box. Now I am treally confused.A review of photos showed as I am decending along the glidepath, I lowered flaps to 28 at IAS of 216- then about a minute later to flaps 50 at IAS 215- then a yellow indication shows what looks like "flap Disag" in a box to the left- in the box where it normally shows the green border I get in WHITE "FLAP" The AP landing was flawless. SO WHA CUD GO WRONG? Carolyn D
  5. Speedbird- after reading that whole series of back and forth comments between those two people all I can say is -ARE YOU KIDDING? That was a perfect excercise in how to completely confuse the ignorant.Hope neither of those guys ever have to WRITE a manual. I also get a chuckle when someone says READ THE MANUAL. From that site that Timmer recommended, I downloaded no fewer than TWENTY FIVE different PDF files that comprise THE MANUAL. My guess is that it will take me a WEEK to READ THE MANUAL. My guess also is that a First Officer couldnt read the manual if he were on a flight from Los Angeles to JFK. Hope they dont have to read the manual if they have a problem trying to lower the landing gear. Carolyn D
  6. I have the same problem as Robi 77--KENNY, I follow what you said in steps 2 and 3 always, but step 1 has me confused as to what you mean by custom freqs. I always load the ILS freq into the FMS NAVRAD page at the beginning of the flight- Am I doing wrong by doing this-is that why I dont get the green box etc? Carolyn D
  7. Mandy-just as an aside- I just returned two weeks ago from a marvelous vacation to Munich and other cities in Germany-Enjoyed one of the best meals of my entire life at the Augustiner near the main train station.
  8. MB- My Systems manual goes only to 30.11 then jumps to 40.1- I dont have that section you mention maybe thats why after searching through the manuals I couldnt fine the ans- I also now note different additianal symbols that I had not seen before and not mentioned and also dont know what they mean.Maybe I just need to download a newer manual. Timmer-thats site looks great -will check it out-thanks\\ Since originally posting this response I have checked out the manual also shown on Timmers web site and that manual also only goes to the pages I refer to with the same section missing-It even refers to the manual as Md-11 Systems-flight controls-NEW- Are we talking about the MD-11 manuals or MB do you have a special set issued to you ???Carolyn D
  9. When during takeoff there appear letters on the speed tape that tell me at what speed to raise flaps etc. However just before landing there appear other letters on the tape in the same area I do not understand- SF,CE,F15. I presume F15 is telling me when to set flaps at 15,but what do the others signify? Carolyn D
  10. When flying at times I get a message that I can only land with a certain weight, usually I am above that weight- How do I handle that problem? Do I somehow need to dump some fuel and if so, how exactly is that handled on the control panel? Or are there other means to rectify the situation.Carolyn D
  11. And before someone jumps on me and says the AP doesnt engage until up in the air so this works when you are on the ground after taxiing, I realize all that-however how the heck do you shut her off when you are up 10,000 feet and you want to do some manual flying?- if you hit the AP disable buttons or switches all you do is kick the AP right back on again which is what you are trying not to do- so she just keeps screaming away.- Carolyn D
  12. I really would have been nice if you didnt copyright them so we could download them for future use -some of us dont have access to the Internet all the time or its even a major inconvenience to do so. If we could download them we could watch at our leisure time over and over.Carolyn D
  13. The manual for switch selections says that Z is an on/off switch so when you hit it twice arent you just restart AP again? the first time turns off Ap so you hear that continuous screech but wether you just hit z again or press the autofly button on the panel you are effectively just turning the AP on again. So the good lady goes for coffee, thank goodness.
  14. I did the tutorial and found that the runway sugested (or selected) is far too short and I kept running off into the trees even with flaps down, speedbrakes applied, my foot on my hand controller brakes, and just about everything else I could use including my boat anchor that I threw out. So I switched to its adjacent runway RWY 16 which is much longer and it works fine. I also didnt like the last waypoint BLM that causes you to approach the ILS and glidepath at right angles so instead swapped it and I used the waypoint DENEL for the last waypoint before the runway and it leads straight in to ILS glide slope from out about 30 miles. Also turned on those beautiful red squares on the ILS path that shoot up several thousand feet like so many stairs from the runway and watched as my plane glided straight down inside that corrider.
  15. I have had exactly the same problem this week -then noticed it was with other PMDG products-however when I tried even default planes the same thing occurred- after hours of trying to solve the problem even including resetting my defaults and recalibrating my Wingman from within FSX nothing worked and I was then convinced it was a faulty Wingman controller that I had recently dropped on the floor. To make a long story short I disasembled the hand controller and found that there was nothing inside that I could rattle, do or fix so I reasssembled it and and was resigned to having to buy a new one- after plugging it back in the computer lo and behold it works fine-no problems at all-conclusion the floor drop must have uncalibrated something in the game controller and it got reset simply by unpluging it and plugging it back in to the computer. It was thatr simple. All my planes now go straight down runways again instead of off to the grasss on the left.
