  1. I use GIMP and get the same with the standard tiff. I use greys on one layer airbrushing black around the edge. Try cheating a little and sliding your image over the adjacent tile in sbx then update your data text file and recompile. Blending the two edges creates a gap. Alan
  2. I was started off in modelling by the late Ian Thatcher using FS2002 and moved on from there. I try to use my own models as far as possible to keep everything in one library. I've always liked the API based models but had some adverse comments about them in other places so have tried to please everyone. I often get enquiries from design beginners and guide them until they cast me loose. I also have a page for beginners here because microsoft and some forums use fancy language and terminology and beginners need the big picture first. http://www.alanblenc...DesignPage.html
  3. I'm only a newbie here but I've just uploaded 113 airfields and trotted over here for a look around. It occurs to me that I'm reading a lot of FS9 strings when I'm really only able to help with FSX. (I've forgotten a lot of the other). Would it be possible to have one forum for FSX and one for FS9? Alan
  4. I have a library here and if you like anything, I can send you the GMAX file so you can make your own. http://www.alanblencowe.com/FSX/FSX_ModelLibrary.html Alan
  5. If you have SBX, you can have one flatten and change the height of every point but that can create glitches like a crease in a sheet of paper. I find it is better to have one flatten for your runway area then create others around it with runway height at one end and scenery height at the other. This will blend your contours nicely. Don't forget to subtract the height of your aircraft. Rick Piper's chipmunk is 1.5m and croshairs plus is at ground level. Alan
  6. While we are on the topic, is there a good freeware model library with just signs? Alan
  7. Do you mean create one from scratch using GMAX and creating your own textures or just getting one from the library? You probably need to add one from the library. Right click\add\Library Object. I have a range of terminals and I can send you the gmax files and coach you on setting up your own library as well with Library Creator. Contact me if you are interested. http://www.alanblenc...delLibrary.html Alan
  8. Why don't you create your own exclude with SBX or something. It will work quite well on it's own and you can drop it into any active scenery folder. Alan
  9. I have the same problem when placing textures edge to edge. If you blend too much, you get a gap. I sometimes slide the image slightly in SBX to get a small overlap but other times I just put up with it. It does appear to be just one side of the image and I'm not sure why that is. Alan
  10. I've just uploaded 113 airports but I'd rather teach you to fish rather than feeding you for a day. Alan
  11. I'm not sure if my method is too simplistic but I paint the light onto the buildings and the ground textures and that seems to work ok. I use gimp and create layers for back light, windo light and lighting and export them as my file_LM.bmp. If you wan't the light to shine on your aircraft as you taxi through and find a way to do that, we'd all love to know.
  12. I bought a Catalina (forget the brand :-) but the old FX9 Mike Stone freeware model beats it hands down for a realistic flight overloaded from Perth to Sri Lanka. The only payware I use now is Don Grovestines Fence Builder. That one is magic, especially with my own fence types modelled. I laid out big money for supposedly fantastic scenery and found the default to be more realistic for my area. Not only that, I was told my airfields were crap until I found out the person involved was building the same model for a payware company. I put mine online anyway and theirs never eventuated. When it comes to the crunch, criticism should be constructive and when I think of the number of developers over the years that have been put off doing anything, we need to be a little tactful. Alan
