  1. I'm a longtime FSX user, and I too just gave the demo version a try. I really impressed!!! I think its time to make the move to X-Plane. I agree that changing is almost like learning a new language on the fly. They say that learning new things is good for old guys like me, so I guess I have no excuse not to make the move. Now if I can convince my kids to get it for me as a gift for father's day...
  2. Sorry for not giving my thanks to you as well - yes, your suggestion worked perfectly. I apologize for my poor manners in not getting back to you.
  3. That was it!!! I now have the world in flight!!! I couldn't have done it without everyone's help. Thank you so much!!!
  4. Thanks so much majuh!!! I ran your suggested command twice and now have the files in my TEST folder. Now my question is: How do I install these files into flight? I opened my flight addon manager, chose install files, and went through everything in my TEST folder but was told that there was nothing in them to install.
  5. I sure appreciate the help, but its still not working. I typed in what you suggested, but was told the following: ContentConverter.exe : The term ‘ContentConverter.exe’ is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again. At line:1 char:2 + ContentConverter.exe fsx /i:”C:/Microsoft Games/Microsoft Flight Sim… + ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ + CategoryInfo : ObjectNotFound: (ContentConverter.exe.String) [], CommandNotFoundException + FulllyQualifiedErrorId : CommandNotFoundException Suggestion [3,General]: the command ContentConverter.exe was not found, but does exist in the current location. WindowsPowerShell does not load commands from the current location by default. If you trust this command, instead type: “>\ContentConverter.exe”. See “get-help about_Command_Precedence” for more details. Do you have any ideas about where I can go from here? Ted
  6. I have the latest version of flight tools (1.1.32) but I'm having no luck converting FSX scenery into Flight, so I'm doing something wrong. First of all, I'm using Windows 10. To get the command prompt I've been using Windows Power Shell. Is this correct, or is there some other way to get the command prompt? Second, flight tools is installed in C:/Program Files (x86)/Flight Tools/Flight Toolkit. Power shell keeps telling me that it doesn't recognize (x86) as a proper command. Third, my FSX is installed in C:/Microsoft Games/Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Fourth, I have created a temporary file to put the converted files into. It is C:/TEST I've entered every string of commands that have been posted here and on FS Developer, but none work. What should I be entering? Thanks for the help! I'd really like to be able to use world scenery.
  7. This has been an interesting discussion! The future of flight sims looks very bright. I've been away from flight simming for a couple of years now - I totally lost interest after the MS Flight meltdown. The announcement about FSW has made me want to come back. I'm very excited about the visual improvements - that's important to me now that I've had experience with other games and sims (FSX and FS 2004 look very dated). I still have to decide which sim to purchase: FSW, X-Plane 11, or Aerofly 2. I'm leaning towards FSW for a couple of reasons - price is one, and the fact that FSW is based on FSX is another. Since FSW is based on FSX, transitioning to it should be pretty easy for those of us who are used to FSX. Will the keyboard commands remain the same? I also like the fact that there will be a MIssion Maker included right from the start - I used to enjoy making missions for FSX. How will we be able to get those mission out to the community? Will it be through sites like the AVSIM library? Will this also be true for freeware models and repaints? I agree that forcing us to go through steam with freeware isn't a good idea. I'm keeping my fingers crossed - I sure hope this works out better for the community than MS Flight did.
  8. I totally agree! I used to be very happy with FS9, but over the years I jumped ship and went to FSX, Flight, and X Plane. Each have their strengths and drawbacks (and its not my intention to get into that discussion here). I too removed FS9 from my computer. About a year ago I discovered that I had become totally burned out with flight simming - I was tired of spending all my time on the technical/computer aspects of the sims (trying to get them to work right) instead of just enjoying the experience of flying. That never happened when I was just using FS9 - I would just fire it up and fly. My burn out had caused me not flight simming at all for the past year - I just walked away from the whole thing. This wasn't something I planned to do - it just happened. I do plan to return to flight simming some day soon, but when I do I will be using FS9. A couple of weeks ago I reinstalled FS9 on my computer and I've downloaded some of the planes that I used to enjoy so much. Hopefully I will rediscover the fun of flight simming that I lost.
  9. FSX definitely has the better graphics. I guess it all depends on what you want out of your flight sim - for me, I enjoy the experience of flying with FS9 a little more than FSX because you don't have to worry about frame rates, stutters, or crashes to desktop. I just fire it up and fly. Admittedly, sometimes the graphics do annoy me (especially the coastlines), but not nearly as much as the buggy performance of FSX annoys me. In fact, I got away from flight simming for a while because I was spending way too much time trying different tweaks so I could get good frame rates instead of flying. Admittedly, there is not as much content available for FS9 as for FSX, but I'm very satisfied with what I have. I especially enjoy the content from California Classic Propliners for FS9. So to each his own. For me, there is no one "best" simulator. I use both FSX and FS9. But I do use FS9 more than I use FSX. And that's what I think the original point of this thread was: the simple statement of the fact that some of us keep coming back to FS9 even though it is not the latest sim out there.
  10. FSX is a move forward in graphics, but only at the cost of a smoothly running simulator. I still prefer FS9 even though I have a computer that runs FSX fairly well.
  11. A few years back I made a few missions for FSX and posted them on this website. Later on I was amazed to find them being offered for sale at another website. Unbelievable what some people will do. I too was unaware of your work and your website. I'll have to check it out!
  12. Yes - he couldn't figure out what my problem was.
  13. I've decided to follow your lead and return to FS9. I've finally given up on trying to get FSX to work and I see no future left with Flight. I got so frustrated with FSX and Flight that I gave up on flight simming entirely for the last half year. When I saw your post, I remembered that I never had any problems with FS9. I want to spend my time flying, not trying endless tweaks (none of which really help) with FSX or hoping in vain that Flight will develop into something that it never was and never will be.
  14. For me, the end is here for the following reasons: I waited too long to get the downloadable content; I can't get Stonelance's Flight Tools to install; and now it looks like there will be no SDK. So for me I see no future with Flight. It's a pity because it had so much potential. But it's time for me to move on.
