  1. I totally agree! I used to be very happy with FS9, but over the years I jumped ship and went to FSX, Flight, and X Plane. Each have their strengths and drawbacks (and its not my intention to get into that discussion here). I too removed FS9 from my computer. About a year ago I discovered that I had become totally burned out with flight simming - I was tired of spending all my time on the technical/computer aspects of the sims (trying to get them to work right) instead of just enjoying the experience of flying. That never happened when I was just using FS9 - I would just fire it up and fly. My burn out had caused me not flight simming at all for the past year - I just walked away from the whole thing. This wasn't something I planned to do - it just happened. I do plan to return to flight simming some day soon, but when I do I will be using FS9. A couple of weeks ago I reinstalled FS9 on my computer and I've downloaded some of the planes that I used to enjoy so much. Hopefully I will rediscover the fun of flight simming that I lost.
  2. FSX definitely has the better graphics. I guess it all depends on what you want out of your flight sim - for me, I enjoy the experience of flying with FS9 a little more than FSX because you don't have to worry about frame rates, stutters, or crashes to desktop. I just fire it up and fly. Admittedly, sometimes the graphics do annoy me (especially the coastlines), but not nearly as much as the buggy performance of FSX annoys me. In fact, I got away from flight simming for a while because I was spending way too much time trying different tweaks so I could get good frame rates instead of flying. Admittedly, there is not as much content available for FS9 as for FSX, but I'm very satisfied with what I have. I especially enjoy the content from California Classic Propliners for FS9. So to each his own. For me, there is no one "best" simulator. I use both FSX and FS9. But I do use FS9 more than I use FSX. And that's what I think the original point of this thread was: the simple statement of the fact that some of us keep coming back to FS9 even though it is not the latest sim out there.
  3. FSX is a move forward in graphics, but only at the cost of a smoothly running simulator. I still prefer FS9 even though I have a computer that runs FSX fairly well.
  4. A few years back I made a few missions for FSX and posted them on this website. Later on I was amazed to find them being offered for sale at another website. Unbelievable what some people will do. I too was unaware of your work and your website. I'll have to check it out!
  5. Yes - he couldn't figure out what my problem was.
  6. I've decided to follow your lead and return to FS9. I've finally given up on trying to get FSX to work and I see no future left with Flight. I got so frustrated with FSX and Flight that I gave up on flight simming entirely for the last half year. When I saw your post, I remembered that I never had any problems with FS9. I want to spend my time flying, not trying endless tweaks (none of which really help) with FSX or hoping in vain that Flight will develop into something that it never was and never will be.
  7. For me, the end is here for the following reasons: I waited too long to get the downloadable content; I can't get Stonelance's Flight Tools to install; and now it looks like there will be no SDK. So for me I see no future with Flight. It's a pity because it had so much potential. But it's time for me to move on.
  8. I bought a used computer in the mid 1980's that had Flight Sim 1.01 on it. No color, just a green screen and white lines, but I loved it. I've been a fan since then. I think I still have that computer stored away somewhere - maybe I'll find it up and give 1.01 a try again.
  9. I'm not having any luck installing the toolkit. Every time I try, I get a fatal error message (that's never good...). Here's what the install log says.
